I am happy with my configuration, except for one thing. They only have the 1000W PSU (platinum Thor) and I really want a 1200 with the 5090 but it's out of stock.

I am worried that 1000W is borderline with the 5090, so not comfortable yet ordering. Thoughts?

Here is the full configuration link.

1000W platinum PSU is more than enough, you don't have to worry at all. I read a lot about that for my new build, you're good.

Ah, thanks man, that's reassuring. It's a lot of fucking money, 6k ..... I am still undecided on spending it.

A 1000W platinum PSU can easily deal with peaks up to 1150W. You won't come close to that if you don't have a 14900k crazy overclocked, overclock your GPU, have 10 fans, water cooler and many hard drives.

Yeah 6k is a lot.... But think of all the ray tracing tbh.

Final question:

Asus GeForce RTX 5090 TUF Gaming OC (only choice at Overclockers)
vs
GIGABYTE GEFORCE RTX 5090 AORUS MASTER (this and the msi are the only two choices at PC Specialist)
vs
MSI GEFORCE RTX 5090 GAMING TRIO OC

?

There are barely any 5090 reviews out there. Performance is basically the same on all cards. Hostile and I have the MSI Gaming Trio and it's great.

Well, some good news, I asked Grok and it looks like my old 3080 model could sell for $390–$430. That's what they are going for on E-bay atm according to the sold listings.

Any of you ever sell your old cards? How'd you go about it? Any reason I shouldn't use E-bay? I've used FB marketplace before so I might try that first so I can forego any issues if I can.

Awesome. I'll probably stick to the 7800x3d for now tbh. I can always upgrade later if the price comes down or if the next AMD CPU's are still on the same socket... How do CPU's fare for resale? Do they keep their value like GPU's have been?

I've bought and sold many GPU's on ebay going back to the Geforce 670 over a decade ago. However, I've seen more and more reports of scammers. If I were selling on ebay, I would make sure to get signature required delivery and insurance.

For my 5080, I bought from Newegg and traded-in my 3080 10GB for ~$310. I probably could have gotten more through ebay, but after ebay fees, I don't think it would have been more than a $50 difference.

Yeah that's a big deal for me as well, not only because of the money but also because I hate hate hate changing mobos. It's the absolute worst. The tiny screws, the NVMEs, the cable management, nightmare fuel.

I went with my 13600k last year because it was the best price vs performance wise. But it looks like I'll go with AMD the next time. Let's see what'll happen on the CPU front, I might upgrade some time next year because I'm good for now.

Yeah, i used to upgrade every 2 years back from 2000 until i got a quad core i7 920 in 2009 which i had until 2017(swapped with Xeon x5660 - 6 core - insane overclocker from default 2.8GHz to 4.5GHz lol). That was the start of my keeping cpu+mobo+ram longer term. I replaced it with an 6800K + mobo + ram in 2017(hoping to upgrade that later but the prices of compatible CPUs never really went down. At the time i wanted to go Ryzen 1800, had it ordered but cancelled due to the memory compatibility issues and performance suffering due to windows scheduler.
I went AMD in 2023 with a 7800x3D specifically because AMD say there would be 1 or 2 more CPU generations on that socket. I also went with a decent mobo(the cheapest X670E i could get that reviewed well) knowing im going to have it for a while and with 32GB Ram.

I normally changed the GPU every generation, but with the insane prices nowadays ill be upgrading the GPU a lot less frequently, have a 4070Ti and only having 12GB VRam sux but im gaming at 3440x1400 which helps a bit.

Beautiful build but why didn't you go with AMD? Not only is performance better but their next generation CPU should be compatible, unless intel for the first time ensure compatibly with future gens?

I have an (irrational) fear of AMD due to once owning an ATI CPU/mobo which was a crashing mess. It was my only deviation from Intel and since then I just can't make myself pull the trigger, however many good things I've read about latest AMD.

No other reason, really.

6k on a machine to browse dpad and watch JOI vids 🤯

Fortnite gonna look (sic) tho

Don't forget all the retro pixel shooters!

I didn't pull the trigger without thought or even some guilt, even though affordability was not an issue for me. It was more like, do I really need a 5090? Is there a point to even buying a new machine when my current one is still alright? Should I really spend so much money on a PC?

But I've been frugal all my life, been working hard since I was 17, don't have kids, take care of my wife and my parents when they need something and I've always put my desires (not my needs, just desires) secondary to all this. And for once in my fucking life, I wanted to spoil myself and get exactly what I wanted. Top quality shit, build the office / games room I've always wanted to.

So fuck it. You only live once (and some people not even that).

Sounds like you've earned it man

Enjoy the spoils!!

Felt much the same when I splurged on my current setup after being on my Franken-quad-core rig from 2015 well into 2022.

That 6k investment should last you years on end.

Fucking hell I just got this damn computer and I already have problems. It's crashing and restarting during the middle of gameplay. Shows up as event 41 kernal power in the event log. I checked the temps, and everything is fine. Ran memetest and it passed fine. Unseated and reseated the ram sticks, rollbacked GPU drivers. And still the same thing. When I'm just browsing the internet it's fine but during gaming it will crash and restart

Sounds like PSU problems.

Ask ChatGPT. I'm not kidding, it's super helpful. Been preparing for new mobo and windows install for tomorrow and it helped me out a lot.

Are you using an NVME drive?

Uninstall all Nvidia drivers with ddu and did a fresh install. So far so good. Usually it crashes after a 30-60 minutes but it's fine right now

Unless your nvidia drivers were really old i don't think this is your issue, i hope it is of course.

When i do a new build I benchmark for hours using furmark, then move to prime 95 blend for hours. Monitoring temps snd crashes.
After stability its overclocking or for AMD tunning via PSO to best push clocks higher with lower temps.

I do that before playing any games because unstable systems piss me off to the point I'm wondering why I'm using this unstable POS, lol, I've had some terrible(stability) builds back in the 2000s.

Windows Event Manager is a good source to identify potential issues, but hopefully you have it resolved via driver update.

Yes. It's a 2TB Adata Legend 800 Gold Series and it's my only drive

I had a very similar issue with a drive and I basically had to reseat it. Essentially it would work for awhile because windows wasnt trying to access that part of the drive. Once it did, blue screen. Was always random. I could play Doom Eternal no issues. But If i tried to open a web browser of have discord or something on the other screen, blue screen.

Try reseating the drive.

Huh, talking about issues, my old PC (10 years old, asus rog iv extreme, intel cpu, 3070) got updated with a Windows 10 patch yesterday evening (windows won't let me upgrade this machine to 11 because something about no support for bitlocker or sth like that, i forget).

After the update restart, all I could see was a black screen with a single cursor line initially blinking and then stuck on the top left of the screen. I could not even boot to BIOS.

I managed to solve this by switching off the power PSU from the back, then on again and then it booted fine.

I left it on overnight and this morning the same thing.

Not seen this before.

Ebay is good but sometimes buyers try to scam. Ive heard jawa is good as they take the card and give u money for it, but not sure how close to market value their offer is.

Ive heard that updating bios can sometimes fix issues that are hard to resolve, sometimes the changes are not even mentioned in update notes. If u can manage to get back in bios might try that.

@Dreamlord nice PC build mate. You will be able to run anything on that for a long long time. I'd still go with a 9800X3D if you can still make a last minute change. It will be a lot better for gaming IMO.

Graphics card wise coil whine is luck of the draw but MSI and Asus fans are guaranteed to be the best/quietest.

@regawdless I have a Suprim you filthy peasant, don't touch me. The Trio I sent back and got the Suprim for £70 more. :)

My new b650e mobo can't connect to Internet for some reason. Possibly because fresh W10 install doesn't have LAN driver. But how am I supposed to get one without Internet?

USB LAN adapter works. Installing Windows updates. I have a bad feeling about LAN adapter on mobo

10800X3D is rumored for 2026. If he can use a cheap but decent cpu in meantime that would be great assuming rumor is true.

The 10800X3D is rumored to be a beast and to have twice the cache 12 cores and clock above 6Ghz + architectural improvements. Word is amd is skipping two tsmc nodes and using bleeding edge manufacturing allowing unprecendented performance.

LAN adapter is really slow and I think USB 2.0 only. I might have to buy another one. Because judging by what I'm reading a lot of people have issues with LAN controllers on mobos. Apparently it's Intel's fault.

Anybody dealt with it?
