Thread: Nintendo Switch 2 launches June 5 for $449 (Update: Pre-orders begin April 24 in the U.S. and Canada)

People are asking if there's text chat or only voice chat with transcription, and honestly I'm kind of expecting there to be no text chat where you can type something arbitrary, because that just opens it up to weirdness and abuse and whatnot. What you'll be able to do is mute everybody and turn transcription on, so you hear no sound (and/or transmit no sound), and the voice recognition AI types what you say, obviously with automatic filters.

Alright so need some advice on this.......there's a chance I can get a Switch 2 at Best Buy near me on opening night which will be Thursday at 9pm.

My guess is a max of 15-20 consoles available and they stated it's 1 per person.

My question is.....how many hours early should I get to Best Buy to wait in this line as I assume there will be one. I was thinking of getting there 2-3 hours early and camping out and if there was more than 15 people already there just say fuck it.

Anybody been through this before?

I have done this before and failed. I missed getting a Wii on launch night by only a few spots back in line. I waited in line for PS5 abs it was well after launch. I think I waited for like 4 hours.

Really, how long are you willing to wait? Bring a gaming handheld and get comfortable.

Am I crazy for not pre-ordering yet ?
Definitely want one but hoping for a demo unit in store to try out before buying
IMO, the only reason to pre-order is if you are desperate to play Nintendo's new first party launch games ASAP (like my son) or you just love having the shiny new thing everyone's talking about.

It kind of makes sense to pre-order now with the whole tariff thing going on, just in case prices go up. I already know Nintendo is going to deliver on software, so why not get it on day 1? They got a pretty stacked first year so far on stuff that was just announced

If you know you are going to get one eventually, the easiest way to get one is with the initial batch of millions, rather than trying to catch the trickle of consoles that come out periodically post launch. That's why I preorder.

Still need 5 of the following before getting this-
Astral Chain 2 - Likely, Nintendo went out of their way to get the rights
Armored Core VII
Ace Combat 8
Bayonetta 4
Bravely Default Remaster - Confirmed
Dragon Quest XII: Flames of Fate - Please dont be vaporware/garbage if you are making us wait this long.
Fire Emblem Three Houses Distant Prequel/Sequel
Gravity Rush 3 - Nintendo could always save a odd series like they did with Bayonetta
Last Story Remake
Metroid Prime 4 - Confirmed
Octopath Traveler 3
Okami 2 - Nani?! Actually happening, though given game development times its likely not releasing for Switch 2, or towards end of its life cycle at best.
Pandora's Tower Remake
Persona 4 Remake
Persona 6
Pokemon Black and White Remakes that does not look like bare minimum effort shit - Lol
Pokemon Gen 11 that does not look like bare minimum effort shit- Lol
Radiant Historia Remaster
Skies of Arcadia Remake - Sega has announced remasters of every single series except Skies and Valkyria Chronicles
Valkyria Chronicles 5/1940s Ace Combat spin-off
Tales of the Abyss Remaster - Likely, series is getting multiple remasters
Tales of Xilla 1/2 Remasters - Ditto
Tales of Symphonia Remake on improved Rise Engine
Xenoblade Chronicles 2DE
Xenoblade Chronicles 4
Xenoblade Chronicles X-2
The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time Remake
The Legend of Zelda: Mainline Title

I think the people who DID preorder already are the crazy ones.

Traitor!!!

Only 15-20 total? For Best Buy? That sounds way too low of a number but if it's actually that limited then arrive immediately after work and get in line. I doubt the US will be anywhere near as demanding as Japan will be on the launch date for the Nintendo Switch 2, but it's still going to be an extremely busy day. I consider myself lucky to have nabbed a pre-order as early as I did
