I started playing SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom and that game is fun, but so janky. Within the first five minutes of stepping out of SpongeBob's house, he was already beneath the map (it was powdery blue beneath there by the way) and reverting to a previous checkpoint was the only way back

Then at Jellyfish Fields I landed on a little island and Hanz took me away like 12-15 times before I was able to manage to jump away. Luckily that time patience and a well timed jump got me out of that spot; no prior save point needed. But this is a fun platformer, forgot how many levels there are designed for this game. And they're pretty extensive areas to be exploring too

This is like that friend who is dating a bitch. There are better women out there. There are better games out there. Don't subject yourself to glitchy kids show tie in shovelware.

I love SpongeBob though, it's easy to look past the glitches because this game is very fun. The dialogue is a bit cheesier than I thought it'd be but I remember it mellowing out after the beginning some. In a way, this game brings it back to when games were better, it's only a hunch but I can see this game being more fun than Super Mario Odyssey for example, which is largely insane amounts of filler in equally large levels as found in BFBB. Apples and oranges as far as the two games go but BFFB will probably be more fun

Dude, Odyssey is incredibly overrated. I reached the maximum amount of moons you can get in that game. They definitely botched the collect-a-thon aspect of that game with all the insipid tasks. BFBB actually had more charm than Odyssey, it's just not as visually impressive. But the challenge in BFBB is way better and the level design way more challenging to 100% than Odyssey

Haven't played Astro Bot yet, but I've seen some gameplay. It looks alright, nothing to write home about and probably more comparable to Rayman games than Mario games but it does look like a decent platformer. Super Mario Odyssey is nice but only Tosterana Kingdom had me fully captivated while playing. Some of the other Kingdoms in Odyssey were okay, others were kinda weak, some very boring, some decent. I consider the game overrated. What it does well is that it covers a ton of ground because the levels are fairly massive for a platformer, but the content within did not impress me. Out of the 836 unique moons to acquire in the game, if I had to guess, at least 55% of them are filler moons. If I ever do a second playthrough of Super Mario Odyssey in the future, for whatever reason that might be, I would make a RTTP thread for it here and assess about how many moons are worthy of being in the game, and how many there are acting as filler there to pad the game

I think Odyssey had a good amount of content, but then they added all the filler moons on top of it for some bizarre reason. If they took the filler moons out, it would be a much better game. Super Mario 64 and Sunshine had less stars to collect, but completing those games felt a lot more satisfying.

The filler in Odyssey, it's almost like if you went to a restaurant and you order an appetizer to get you started, but they keep delaying the actual main course you're waiting for so the waiter keeps bringing you these lame one-bite morsels or appetizers 5, 6, 7, 8 times in a row and then you finally get the meal you were expecting. That's how I would describe Super Mario Odyssey for the filler it tries passing along as worthwhile gameplay. There are just so many moons that anyone could easily say, "Why even put that one in the game? What was the point of that and what are they doing here?"

It's just filler. It's like Nintendo wanted to make games for Twitch streamers or content and give them like an additional 20-30 hours of extra content but the content was of course all very weak and redundant. A few big hitters for the Nintendo Switch have way too much padding, it was never just Super Mario Odyssey, but also Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. That's the one major criticism I have of the Switch era, Nintendo relies a lot on cheap methods that extend their games and it's so easy to see and call out too. They're not slick at all in what they tried to do. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has an "overworld" in the World of Light / Adventure Mode and it has got to be the cheapest AAA excuse of an overworld anyone will ever see. I get that it's an overworld for a fighting game somehow we got tremendously more from Melee's Adventure Mode and in that one they don't waste out time; in fact the Adventure Mode in Melee is excellent without a single bit of fluff or filler

All things considered Nintendo killed it with the Switch but I just wish that going forward they don't embarrass themselves again in the same way with useless filler content. It's so weak. Across four major titles of theirs, I probably spent at least 80 hours or so playing and experiencing sorry content that could have easily been omitted. Sakurai once said he felt remorse for wasting fractions of a second, but what do you call the Adventure Mode in SSBU when the entire world is watered down and flat?

In terms of Smash Bros, I feel that Brawl was the best in terms of content quantity. It had an okay campaign mode, but they also had the all star mode and classic mode to clear with all the characters. That was a fun game to try and 100%.

I was so done with the Wii that I played Brawl about 5 or so times and then sold it. I don't think I ever played Subspace Emissary only the multiplayer fighting. It was mainly how peeved I was with the Wii-mote and it upset me that I had to use GameCube controllers when I had already purchased about five total Wii controllers those tacky pos controllers. Plus the Classic Wii controllers as well, which were also kind of lame. But that was when I was a teenager. Still though, I never cared about or thought highly of motion controls. They're not important to gaming imo

Hopefully. I'll be diving into Super Mario Sunshine for the 100% playthrough. It's not like Yoshi's Island levels of difficulty to 100% complete but it's a rigorous challenge

Took the rest of the week off for Switch 2, but can't go to the midnight launch. Now I'm just gonna be up all night playing Unicorn Overlord until Gamestop opens.

No Man's Sky Switch 2 update available at launch:

Pretty cool, I already had it on Switch but never played it. Will give it a shot... at somepoint, it's in my backlog.

If we want to transfer all our Switch data to Switch 2 it would have to be done manually right? Still have to get that done tonight, without accidentally deleting anything permanently from the Switch

NS2 is hours away for some

You can upload all that shit to a cloud now, and your og switch then is fully erased, then you get the switch 2 and download everything from the cloud.

Or you can have them side by side and do that when you get the switch 2.
