Thread: Nintendo Direct E3 2021 |E3| Live watch and discussions!
Shitty E3 direct. The last few stand alone directs were better than this.

BOTW 2 for 2022 not surprised. A bit more surprised no big holiday game announced outside of Pokemon.

No Splatoon 3? No hint of MK 9? No DK? Where was No More Heros 3?

Weak overall with no hints towards 2022 outside of Zelda.

IMO I think this pretty much confirms Switch Pro and they are holding off on till end of 2021 or 2022 and dont want to show anything off past the OG Switch's life time.

I think for Nintendo the rest of the year lines up exactly with what they want, which is games for everyone. So you got that here. But for hardcore gamers this was probably a big nothing burger.
Good point, for the audience, they have enough in the year to keep sales going, just nothing for super old school fans of the snes and nes

Nintendo can eat a bag of dicks for making that POS Game and Watch thing the Zelda Anniversary piece. Wouldn't even take one for free.
I don't know I thought it was kind of cool. A nice collectible.

It does suck that they didn't do anything more, but Zelda is not Mario.

I mean imagine how Metroid and DK feel they don't even get mentions at all.

At least Zelda got a Skyward Sword and Game and Watch.

It's not like making it is taking away resources from their main game development. They know there is a market for nostalgic collectible items and are serving that niche.

Ya it was weak, not even mention of anything cool for the online services like N64 or GameBoy or a huge game drop etc...

There is a lot of content and the system will keep selling because it has a wide audience that looks for the type of games that Nintendo has (and from 3rd parties).

Just nothing to be hyped about. At least they could have teased some 2022 games like Kart, DK, Splatoon, an Arms sequel, Bayonetta, and maybe something new from Monolith and maybe Platenium.

Instead it was really just 2021 stuff thats more casual and BOTW 2 2022.

So as a show for hype and bombs it was a failure.

For a show telling you that Nintendo will sell a butt load of systems and software it would have been an A

$50 for re-re-re-re-releases of roms and a cheap bit of plastic. Hard pass.

Money on the table. Classic Nintendo.

Yeah, it's not "taking away resources" per se, but the issue is that Nintendo treats these side-projects, DLC packs (Hyrule Warriors and Smash), and ports like MAJOR RELEASES. So if you wanted more top-quality releases from Nintendo this year, this is one of the items (among others) that Nintendo considers a big part of their 30th anniversary, while they save other stuff for 2022 and beyond.

Kinda like how they ignored fans for years and years regarding Earthbound and then finally released it on Wii U eShop during a month when there was no major releases.

It's another example of "please be excited" which I am seeing more and more.

Between Fatal Frame and Monkey Ball announcements being also for Xbox and PS4, Nintendo did more for MS and Sony than most 3rd parties this E3 at their own direct 😂

There's a stream with people actually playing Mario Golf. It's gonna be fun, but god damn does it look way more rough than I was expecting compared to the footage shown up to now.

I really liked a lot of it. Metriod Dread looked great, SMT V was informative, if dry, Advance Wars renakes are brill, Wario Ware will be a ton of fun, and BOTW2 looked noticeably better than the first one.

Along with the new Mario and Rabbids, and a few great ports announced elsewhere, the Switch is still head and shoulders above the current gen systems in terms of offering upcoming games I want.

This year is definitely better than the previous two for Nintendo. They've come out half-swinging this year. Not even close to 2017, but with the rest of the industry almost on its knees, this was a decent showing.

I'm gonna be picking up a good 10-15 Switch games this year, which is way more than I could have imagined.

Gathered enough energy to cry myself out here, too:

Nintendo hates Monolith Soft and its fans. It makes no sense that there wasn't a new Monolith Soft-game announced today. They won't announce one for this year at the September Direct with only 2 months lead-up. They won't announce one for Spring 2022, because of Pokemon Legends Arceus. They won't announce one for Christmas 2022, because that's BotW 2's slot. It's entirely unrealistic that MS wouldn't have a new game to show after not having had a new game since 2017, with their team nearing 300 people, bigger than they've ever been and with more time than they've ever had. Nah, Nintendo is forcing them to not show stuff, both for strategical scheduling, but also because they know Xenoblade 3 or the new medieval ip would have overshadowed BotW 2. Can't show some massive, epic galaxy-spanning journey or an exciting Vision of Escaflowne-esque action-rpg when you want people to be hype for your BotW mission pak :/ Yeah sorry, I actually liked what I saw from BotW 2, but I'm too bitter rn ...

But that's not even all the bad things.

Project Zero 5 is being ported before Xenoblade X. That's just further mocking us Monolith Soft-fans. Plus let's see how this version is even more censored than the original. Then there's SMT5 that look ROUGH. Some of the scenes in the trailer reminded me of an upscaled 3DS-game. Others looked better, of course. And I hate the hero. Why can't a male hero look ... male? The boy fusions with some adult male demon and ... turns into a girl? Ugh. The crazies at Era interpret this as some progressive "gender doesn't matter" thing, of course, when in reality it's just Atlus being dumb and going for the annoying trap character trope. Boys looking like girls is the "in"-thing in weeb circles rn, so I guess that's why it's in SMT5 now. Meh.

So many old games, then. Why can't they make a new Advance Wars-game when they're making new assets anyway?

And I just don't care about 2D-Metroid. This one looks to have a "you're constantly hunted by some Nemesis" concept, which only further deflates my interest. Then there's Wario Ware ... yeah, that's a nice time waster for when it's 10 bucks used. S

Sigh ...

I wanted only one game that was perfectly reasonable to expect at this year's E3 ... and I got nothing. I'll re-eveluate my love for Nintendo now, because clearly Nintendo doesn't like me. I'm sad.

How much have the xenogames sold? I'm guessing they cost alot to make, which unfortunately, Nintendo likes making fun games on a budget.

I was getting hyped when they started talking about advance wars, but then they showed it was a remaster of 1 and 2. Both of which I played on the Wii U about 7 years ago. Would it have killed them to add a little bit of a new campaign? Developers are getting so lazy these days.

The only remaster or rerelease I do actually want is the Metroid prime trilogy but they just won't release that, despite Metroid prime 4 being delayed for years. (Maybe a decade once all is said and done)

That was a boy in SMT5? FFS.
I am with you in that for the whole year I basically have no big new games to play for switch. I suppose if dynasty Warriors empires actually comes out in December that's one thing. With BOTW 2 "2022" release date more likely early 2023, Nintendo's releases this generation as a whole are quite light when you consider that they combined the Wii U and 3ds developers together. With the new Mario mainline not even talked about that is probably late 2023. Sad.

Watching some youtubers and everyone really liked the Direct. Its getting good reviews.

Odd I thought it was a let down. Seems Nintendo is holding back for future games. Like I said most likely due to pro. Not even a Splatoon 3 trailer is pretty telling.

I didnt see any really big holiday game so either there is a pro in the 4th quarter or maybe a price cut. Switch seems to be selling anyways.

I'm hype for new Metroid (looks fuckin sick) but goddamn does the lack of Bayo 3 news hurt. Like if someone just said the word "Bayonetta" I would've been happy.

I think I'm finally starting to accept that it may never come out. 4 years on and still no news AT ALL. Not a WORD about it.

Rumor has it nothing is getting developed and Platinum is in financial. And it becomes more plausible the more I think about it. Platinum hasn't made a hit title in a while, they accepted money from tencent and had to go to kickstarter to fund the W101 remaster, they are no longer on Granblue Relink and had basically nothing to do with Nier Replicant, and now they announce that Babylon's Fall will be a "live-service game" that still has no release date (original release was slated for 2019).

All things considered Bayo 3 might be pretty low on their priority list.

I don't see them going with the Pokemon remake, SMTV, Metroid Dread and Advance Wars as their holiday line-up, there's nothing there with decent mass appeal to drive sales. I'm fairly confident something else will be announced between now and then, unless the revision is coming in early 2022 and they're putting all their effort into that. Who knows at this point. At least there's a steady slew of decent titles coming this year, which is more than we could say last year.

Not saying Pokemon is enough, but I can see them banking on it to provide the push they need, along with Monster Hunter stories and Zelda remake, I can see Nintendo thinking thats enough

You know what's really bad about SMT5? Nintendo showed a different trailer in the Japanese version of the E3 Direct. You can pretty much bet that Treehouse will absolutely butcher the game and censor many of the monster designs. Honestly, if that happens, I won't buy the game. I'm too old to put up with being treated like a baby. Neither books nor movies get censored that way, but somehow video games are under the guise of "different culture". I hate that so much ...

They randomly announced three CAVE shmups for Nintendo Switch: Mushihimesama, Espgaluda 2, and DDP Ressurrection.

All are solid. Available ports of all three are pretty expensive so this is a good deal ($19.99 for Mushi). I'll hold off until the inevitable three-in-one physical release.
