Thread: Netflix's Resident Evil will make you CRINGE into the stratosphere.
Because they don't want to create a show for fans. They want to create a show to appeal to the TikTok generation and young'uns.

The writers and creators don't know how to treat these already existing franchises because they are creatively bankrupt and have to piggyback off a big industry name to get any traction. I am sure this show would've been fine for whatever audience they were targeting even without the name of Resident Evil attached to it. Instead, we're fed this high school teen drama/zombie apocalypse nonsense which has no love or reverence for the source material.

It's the fact that creatively, the people responsible for this drivel seemingly think they're above the source material. There's enough campy stuff in RE to make a fairly compelling, yet serious story.

but its from the same guy who did supernatural.

The animated movies are totally dumb and pretty bad. I still enjoy them somehow.

I love dumb shit and the animated movies are just the right kind of dumb shit for me to get down with.

That said there was an animated "miniseries" on Netflix a year or two ago (Infinite Darkness or something?) that I'm pretty sure was just a chopped up animated movie. It was okay (certainly better than this) but probably the most boring of the animated movies thus far.

I can do dumb (to a point) but don't be boring.

I am not familiar with Andrew Dabb's previous work, I take it Supernatural is held in high regard then?

I just don't think this iteration of Resident Evil works, be it the characters, the setting, the soundtrack. It all just feels a bit off. I would probably find it more acceptable had it been its own thing and not trying to be a Resident Evil thing.

Supernatural was great until the last couple of series when the woke started creeping in.

When it was two dudes slaying monsters, drinking, womanising and delivering rousing speeches about the importance and value of family, it was fucking brilliant.

This show certainly feels like it's inline with the downwards trajectory that show was on, but without the fantastic cast and seasoned secondary writers to keep it on track.

Also I don't think this is just written for the young or 'tiktok' audiences. The demographic stats for who is actually watching these shows usually turns out to mostly be 30+ twitter weirdoes with no money, friends or family to speak of that are likely either cultists or virtue signalling.

You're right that the production side are likely targeting those younger viewers mind, but they're doing so to 'educate' them, not entertain them.

Of course the changes and woke script or casting decisions are just to 'rebalance previous systemic injustices', which are more important than meritocracy or quality, hence why it's so rubbish.

Hey, so I just looked up Supernatural and guess who was showrunner for the last few seasons.

Andrew Dabb.

Perhaps that would go some way to explain why this series feels a bit forced?

As a 30 something guy, those demographic stats are depressing. Though not entirely surprising given that's likely one of the larger groups for fans of RE. I can't wait to see how Critical Drinker utterly skewers this dogshit.

They're ridiculously over the top but they're true to the canon characters designs and personality and know they're over the top and just have fun with it, and most importantly they don't try to """"""'""subvert"""""''''''' your expectations or pump you with the BlackRock """""""message""""'' , just a fun popcorn movie you'll turn off your brain and enjoy it's ridiculous action and seeing your favourite character in CG movie form just like you remember them.
Vendetta is my least favorite of the CG animated movies. Different director and writer. I thought the story was the weakest of the three with the bad guy wanting to marry Rebecca after kidnapping her because she reminds him of his dead wife. And I thought the gun fu was goofy.

I didn't think Degeneration and Damnation were dumb. I remember enjoying them. Resident Evil's world is really interesting to me, thinking about all of the different outbreaks and bioweapons being unleashed. It could have ended with Resident Evil 5 because the story comes full circle with Chris fighting Wesker in Africa where Umbrella first began their research. Another reason I liked Degeneration was how they foreshadowed Resident Evil 5 by mentioning Tricell at the end.

That said, I wouldn't mind one more CG interquel by Capcom. They need to bring back Jill too. It's been too long.

A CGI movie with Jill would be awesome, and would be a way to have her finally interact with Leon, which is a weird omission over the last 20+ years.

Also they should fuck, purely because it would piss off so many annoying fans that 'ship' them with other characters for no sane reason.

Also it lead to further "No way Fag"/Chris posting.

Honestly, the RE movies have more appealing animation than most major English CGI releases, and way better than most CGI anime. That Rebecca gif is something else, especially with the subtle facial expressions.

She is hot i was just joking about the use of "grown up" when everyone treated her like a kid.

She's Wesker's muse

The joke didn't land the way I wanted it too, unfortunately. I have a bad habit of typing replies and then just abandoning it if it doesn't meet my high shitpost standards. Then sometimes they get posted and garbled. Which is what happened here before the edit.
