I hate it, but I have to know how much worse it gets. I was already rolling my eyes when the giant zombie caterpillar showed up, but then it somehow got worse.
In the first episode alone, tonally it's a mess. Lurching between future zombie apocalypse and current day faux high school drama. I don't understand why this was greenlit, this doesn't serve anyone, fans will be pissed, this won't grant new fans given the severe lack of quality, cohesion and character in the writing.
The whole break-in sequence is beyond laughable, using nothing but torches and voice notes to beat a billion dollar corporations security system.
Yet, folks here are telling me, it somehow gets worse?
I need to finish it, but I'm not sure I'm built to suffer this way.
Also, why do the Umbrella Special Forces soldiers dress like 1970's Cylons?

Who the hell is in charge of the cross media adaptations of Capcom's IPs? They should really keep tight leash on stuff like this like Nintendo does.
Or better yet, fund the adaptations themselves, like Riot did with Arcane. That for me is the best adaptation of a videogame that I've seen.

Netflix just kicked off its new Resident Evil series, and as initially expected, the show has been scoring poorly amongst actual fans, including those in Japan, who are generally more forgiving when it comes to live-action adaptations.
Since Netflix's new Resident Evil show debuted on July 14th, it has scored as low as 53% by critics and a 1.8 amongst users on Meta Critic:
While there are plenty of shows and movies that score lower with critics and higher with the general audience, it wasn't the case for Resident Evil, with scores as low as 22% from the audience on Rotten Tomatoes and a 3.6 on IMDB:
The Netflix CG anime, Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, also had low scores but were still higher with a 50% rating from critics and a 39% audience score. Some suggest the low scores could be due to the changes made to Albert Wesker's character, but Japanese fans had plenty of other criticisms about the show:

Resident Evil Degeneration is still my favorite adaptation of the games and it's also not some reimagining of the lore.
I'll always argue that hand-drawn or CG animated movie adaptations are a more interesting direction than live-action when it comes to video games. Especially in the case of the Resident Evil series. They should have adapted Resident Evil Outbreak into a series.

Because they don't want to create a show for fans. They want to create a show to appeal to the TikTok generation and young'uns.
The writers and creators don't know how to treat these already existing franchises because they are creatively bankrupt and have to piggyback off a big industry name to get any traction. I am sure this show would've been fine for whatever audience they were targeting even without the name of Resident Evil attached to it. Instead, we're fed this high school teen drama/zombie apocalypse nonsense which has no love or reverence for the source material.
It's the fact that creatively, the people responsible for this drivel seemingly think they're above the source material. There's enough campy stuff in RE to make a fairly compelling, yet serious story.
