Thread: Indiana Jones and the Great Circle |OT| Fortune & Glory
Have you never seen Indy befor?
Strong female character? Marion was a strong female character and remained so through the series. I would much rather have another Marion character than a screaming Willie character.

It's like some of you have never watched the films befor and just looking to hit on it because it's microsoft

I liked Willie.
I know I am the only one.

Nah she was just annoying af. But I mean....who wouldn't.

Temple was the worst of the OG trilogy, but it definitely had its moments and was possibly the most humorous of the OGs. Still the funniest part of any of the movies:

Marion was definitely the strongest and kind of the one everyone wanted to see Indy with.

Nazi bitch was the hottest. Sorry, not sorry.

Troy Baker is passable as a young Harrison Ford so that's a plus. First person is totally killing this for me though. This would've been sooooooo much better in third person.

Temple of Doom was great.

Stahp it. I said worst of the trilogy. I didn't say it sucked. How can you possibly say it's better than Raiders or, the absolute best, Last Crusade.

I rate the Indiana Jones trilogy in the order they came out. I don't do this with Star Wars trilogy.

Best one is Raiders, Second is Temple of Doom, Third is Last Crusade.

My reasoning. One is the best, it creates tropes for the entire IP. That is to say, it does rely upon standard ones, particularly since Spielberg and Lucas were inspired by Saturday Morning Serials and the like, however, Indy's fear of Snakes, being a "Clark Kent" Professor by day and a Super Action hero everywhere else. So on. So forth. Pay attention, now. It has high adventure, intrigue, drama, supernatural tied to biblical stories and is funny. It's the standard. You cannot NOT rank it as number 1 in this entire IP.

Temple of Doom took all of that and ramped it up to 11. It happened in the best decade for action movies, that being the 80's and really put Indiana on top as an action hero with comrades like Rambo, yet still nerdy enough to ferret out treasure and mystery of yore. He was awesome because he is akin to a Super Scientist of the 50's UFO and Aliens movies, where he was the smartest person in the room and the most capable of saving everyone at the same time. Temple also changed the mood of the film from Raiders, which was more of an adventure and classically told story from Hollywood to the bombastic and crazy scenarios he got up to in Temple of Doom.

It didn't rely upon Nazi's, yet it does have a well-defined and spooky death-cult of Kali as his antagonist. Short Round did not suck. He was captured and he helped out in a way that wasn't ridiculous and added honest comedy and drama which is hard when you have child actors and all of this was done as a family movie, not just targeted to kids. <-- See Goonies as well, it fits.

Last Crusade is great. Just because I put it last doesn't mean it isn't Great. It is Indiana Jones and part of the original trilogy. The best thing about that movie was River Phoenix and we were robbed that Lucas and Spielberg didn't fast track a movie with him doing a how Indiana really became Indiana. Plus it was during the end of the Wild West era. A lot of meat was left on the bone for Indiana's story about growing up in the same era that Red Dead Redemption is in. It would have been fantastic and we ALL KNOW IT. Fuckin' Westerns man, they need not go the way of the Buffalo. <-- See Logan for my point on what that means in the modern era.

You don't have to like it, but that is the peak ranking for the Indiana Jones movies.

Willie was a classic example of a woman who is strong and feminine at the same time. If she was in a [current year] movie, she would have mary-sued her way all over Indiana and they would have put a big fat hairy Mole on her face.

Now listen here you fuck. I take nothing away from the Indiana Jones movie trilogy (the rest don't exist in my reality, please Ford for the love of God stop). But Uncharted is a damn masterpiece. The first at least. Barely played the second and didn't touch any others. Every Indiana Jones game in existence has been laughably horrible. Shit I might hop over to AVGN right now to have a few giggles.

Let's talk about the real tragedy here....that we never got to see Nathan Fillion play Nathan Drake in a live action Uncharted movie.

Indiana Jones adventure games were great. Looks like new game is following in the same vein. I don't want Indiana Jones game where he parkours every rooftop and genocides hundreds of enemies like Uncharted.

Definitively? To be fair, when I was a kid, I always thought Temple was the best. Probably for the reasons you described. It was a little more over the top and action packed, definitely more gruesome. The other two focused more on story telling and historical aspects, which I appreciated more as an adult. It wasn't until I binge watched them all a few years ago I said "Wow....I like Temple the least now."

I have to say it whenever I think of Indiana Jones. The Rocketeer was done dirty by Disney. They came close to greatness on that character and their first movie was rip off of one of the stories from the comics, which was fine. But like Tron, Disney never could figure out what to do with it because they were looking at margins for dollars and not the potential for what could have been.

Now Disney does the opposite. They throw money in a fire pit and prolong unnecessary, unneeded, and unwanted characters because Diversity.

Every Indy movie except Temple of Doom has Nazis (the Russians in Indy4 are just redressed Nazis) in it.

It's like Star Wars putting a frigging Death Star into every movie except Empire.

I like all three OT movies, but Pulp is such a vast genre, and all they ever they ever came up with in them five movies they produced is Nazis, Nazis, Nazis.

It is OK to disagree with me. But I know I am right. Lucas and Spielberg actually followed the formula for great movies from the Silver Age and it shows. The rest was done with modern day minded audiences in mind. That isn't bad, but you can't deny it when laid out and having spent years away from seeing it as a child in the theater.

genocides hundreds of enemies like Uncharted.

Fair enough, but you stated "Fuck Uncharted," my good man. It made my eyeball twitch. I feel like it being compared to Indiana Jones is what started people getting crotchety. And honestly, give me a list of good Jones games and I'll look into them. Maybe I never looked hard enough because AVGN trashed them all. The N64 one was just horrendous to watch.

The whole Genocides hundreds of enemies wasn't even a thing until Millennials put down their tendies and picked up a pen after being indoctrinated by Marxists in academia.

It was a game. We have genocided whole planets in vidya, sometimes whole solar systems. Uncharted did nothing new here, but for some reason, the theater kids got control of our culture and marched on their never ending quest of hectoring us over their own insecurities.

Totally agree. I also want more game to it than UC. I want puzzles and tombs that you actually play through not cinematics or cutscenes. I want lots of action that you are a part of not something you watch.

Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis is universally considered to be the best of Indiana Jones games. The Last Crusade (PC version) was ok too. They might feel a little dated to modern audience though.

I don't hate Uncharted. Just feel like we had enough of them.

Fate of Atlantis was awesome two reasons. It was a well realized story that could have made for a compelling movie. And it was a Lucas film Game in their patented click and point adventure style which they were famous for doing quite well, Sierra Games notwithstanding.

Interesting. I've never heard the "too many Nazis" debate before. Never bothered me simply because they were a big part of that time period and it made sense them going after the same relics which Hitler believed could supernaturally turn the war for Germany. Historically, I believe this is accurate, at least for the Grail. I never took it as *just insert Nazis cuz bad guy.*

Are you saying there is a literal order of best of that can't be contested lol? I've seen Temple countless times over the years. I'm saying just more recently in my adult life, I appreciate and like the other two more than Temple. And maybe it's because I watched them all back to back.

I was assuming he was being facetious, but yeah there are plenty of other games to be crying about "genocide." The entire GTA series....

Alright how many damn games are there that I apparently wasn't aware of....guess I'm pootubing it.

Yes. For the objective and measurable reasons I stated, sans emotion.

Yeah it's funny to see Xbox fans praising MachineGames for making another game in first-person and acting like it one-ups Uncharted because you get to see Indy's gross yellow thumb nail when he cracks his whip at enemies. It's gonna be so much fun carrying this big stone wheel that obstructs half the screen to complete a puzzle. Oh, but here's Indy climbing ladders and swinging across gaps in third-person so it's still kind of like Uncharted and Tomb Raider anyway.

Oh yeah, I'm not attacking anyone here for that view. I am observing clown-world and applying a critical analysis in a clinical way regarding how that idea permeated for Uncharted and beyond.

AVGN don't play PC games. Also it's a show. Half of games he "reviews" are not that bad.

Ehhhh idk...he's covered PC games. Including an Indy game. It's just not his usual forte. I should clarify, I mean Cinnemassacre or the Nerd as a whole. Including his gameplays. Not just the AVGN episodes. But I will concede that there were far more Indy games than I was aware of so....I recant my original statement and I shall be the asshole of the day.

how that idea permeated for Uncharted and beyond.

Oh boy....so this is actually a fucking thing? Lemme guess where this started.....Do I go with reddit or kotaku

Edit: You know what....this is oddly starting to sound familiar. I feel like my brother told me about this years back that people were butthurt on the internets that Drake is treated as a hero when he's running around "genociding" everyone and their mother and it became a running joke. God people are dumb. Hi, ever played a video game before?

I hope Todd gave them some tips on how to make it well paced and replayable, because the Wolfensteins (and half of Dark Athena) have shit pacing and zero replay value. Not bombastic enough to go on the ride again, not fun enough either.

I feel like I'm going crazy with all you people saying this should be 3rd person, did you people not play the masterpiece that was Escape from Butcher Bay? Machine Games employees a shit-ton of Starbreeze alumni, and this looks like the exact same gameplay style.

You should really play Uncharted 2, it's an amazing game. Best one imo.

I'll probably give it a go. I only stopped, as I do with most games in the past 5-10 years, because they are long plays and I generally go for the trophies as well...then something else shiny comes along and I put the game down for that and never return. The cycle repeats. It's a sad state of existence. Part of me misses the days there were no save states, you kept the console on for days if you had to until you finished that damn thing.

After the new trailer I feel like they nailed the IP's tone. It feels like a classic Indy flick. But I am still not sold on the gameplay. I think I need some 2min+ videos of the gameplay to know. Also really hoping that the girl is just there for story/dialogue and maybe to be someone to rescue or protect.
