Thread: Indiana Jones and the Great Circle |OT| Fortune & Glory
Been playing this quite a bit over the weekend. Its good, but you have to care about the IP to get the most out of this. Some negatives:

-stealth is really simple and easy

-combat is a bit messy and simple.

-this applies to the "open world" sections but its really annoying to know where an item is at but you cant get to it yet because you haven't progressed far enough in the story, but you spend 30 minutes thinking you missed some kind of access point. Really, really annoying. If you are playing this game and you try to get to an area behind a door that just says "locked" or "opened from the other side" (if it says you need a key, you should be able to find it). Then dont bother trying to find another way in, you will visit this area in a story mission.

-some of Indy's mannerisms dont really come through in the animations. Facial animations are largely good but a little stiff.

Other than these niggles, its been a really fun game so far. There is a lot more too it than I originally guessed. I spent several hours just on the Vactican, exploring and trying to find all the secrets.

Is there a good sense of progression?

Its so-so.

Upgrades come in the form of books that you find. You have to find the book, then use "Adventure Points" (XP) to buy the ability. Some of the books are just scattered around the environments, some can be bought from vendors.

I would say most of them arent really vital, but they do help.

Some are simple stat buffs (do more damage with double handed melee weapons) while others give you abilities. (Whip crack pulls weapons out of enemies hands and towards Indy).

To me, it really does feel like a point and click adventure. You're dropped in a big area with multiple ways to approach things and you need to explore and find items you need to solve puzzles, etc. It's satisfying when you figure out a puzzle, but the progression is definitely not linear.

I feel like I am getting towards the end. I have a few tips for anybody looking to jump in.

If you are just starting this, IGNORE all the collectible shit.

You dont really need it. Some of the book perks are nice but they are not necessary to beat the game. Its not that difficult of a game (so far). It just slows down the pacing of the story. Get the ones that are on your way through the story and side quests but don't spend too much time looking for the stuff. Just move on.

I would do the side quests though as there are a couple good ones.

Later on there are some fucking obnoxious gear puzzles that YOU CANNOT COMPLETE unless you have a stockpile of extra gears. I spent almost 20 minutes on one of these before I decided it was impossible or I was missing something. Just make sure, every time you come across a small gear that you can keep in your inventory, KEEP IT. DONT LEAVE IT OR YOU WILL HAVE TO GO BACK FOR IT.

Thanks for the heads up! Will keep that in mind when I get back to the game. I always like to collect stuff that gives you small buffs, but yeah I think the best way is to follow the story and keep the narrative flow going.

Finished the game this weekend. I got most of the collectible shit (still need all the books and all the journal entries for the Platinum) clocking in at 30 hours.

Highs:
-Its definitely the best Indiana Jones content in a while and is better than Dial of Destiny and Crystal Skull
-Good exploration
-Nice graphics (at times)
-Story hits the Indiana Jones marks pretty well
-Combat is pretty fun
-Troy Baker does a good job of imitating Harrison Ford

Lows:
-open worldy collectathon shit...some of which is needed for another "final" ending. Don't worry too much about this though, you aren't missing anything if you decide not to bother.
-combat is a bit sloppy and shallow
-some puzzles are a bit tiresome (fucking optional gear puzzles towards the end of the game)
-stealth is really really basic.
-Not all the "open world" areas are good. One is actively annoying to traverse
-Stiff animations. Harrison Ford is really underappreciated in how physical his performance is as Indy, and the technology just isnt up to the task of selling some of the more subtle facial animations. Some gags fall completely flat due to this.
-Graphics look pretty flat in some circumstances. The last open world section looks actively bad. Jungles in Uncharted 4 shit all over this.

Overall I would give this game an 8 out of 10. Not as good as a lot of people hyped it up to be but its still not bad. Its gotta be the best Indiana Jones game I've played, but that is a pretty low bar. In structure, it actually reminds me of the first Tomb Raider reboot a bit.

Facial animations look a bit dead and I'm not a big fan of Troy Baker as Indy.

I just keep hearing Troy.
