Thread: I'm going to permanently TIME-TRAVEL BACK to the "Old-Gen Gaming Catalogue" moving forward...(DonDonPachi, GET ITT!!!)
Dunno, mate..

I always feel like 2013 something happened that made most mainstream stuff just unfun. With exceptions of course.

Indie has some good games from time to time.
But even there, it's getting more and more difficult to filter through all that stuff coming out.

It's just a general observation of how public opinion changes. The Club that was mentioned in this thread was declared a total crap back then. 3 hour long game where you shoot bots for points. People were demanding longer games back then and story focus seemed important.

I bet in 10 years youtubers will make videos about how Saints Row reboot is surprisingly fun to play and goofy culture wars stuff seems inoffensive and even nostalgic.

There is so much bloat in so many games these days that it is really refreshing playing through some older games. I find a nice thing is, where a lot of these older games are more to the point, story oriented games also leave a certain something to the imagination. Mostly due to the presentation which I actually think works in their favour. Which also proves that visuals are nowhere near being the be all and end all in video games.

Trust me, no one is going to be looking back at a time where people were harassed, intimidated and threatened for not having the right opinion with nostalgia. There won't be any "oh boy I sure do miss the days of yore when you could be fired from your job and blackballed from an industry because I disagreed with a pitchfork mob. I wish we could go back to the times where I'd be doxxed for thinking transitioning children was immoral".

The only people who will be missing that shit will be the people who got away with doing it so long. Everyone else will be looking back with repulsion and warning our children about it.

I've been building up a library of my favourite games from the past that covers (almost) every console from the NES. These are games I can play over and over and not get bored of them. I'll always have something to play.

I don't bother with Sony any more and I haven't liked Microsoft since the original Xbox. The forced wokeness/politics and the focus on narrative and storytelling are not what I want from a video game. I'm still interested in what Nintendo has to offer (Zelda, Mario etc.) As long as they don't go woke. NoA worry me, though.

Same, though not intentionally. There are just so many fantastic movies or shows from the past to watch. In fact more than I will ever have time to see...why exactly do I need New content?

That question isnt an attack on New content, its a challenge. Be better than what I have already or be ignored.

Exactly. Why waste my time sifting through all the crap of today to find one good movie/TV show/video game when I can just look to the past. Only the good stuff is remembered.

Imho there are still many great games and developers out there. You just don't have to solely focus on the big three (Nintendo is still ok imho). Just take a look here and there on Sony and ms because apparently they can release a good game - helldivers and stellar blade come to mind right now - from time to time.
And keep your focus, or rather learn to enjoy what Indie devs bring to the table. That's where the magic is happening IMHO. From small pick up and play games to sandboxes to boomer shooters, metroidvanias and soulslikes, …. There's basically something for everyone I would say. It is what brought me back to "regular gaming" after years of dota 2 addiction.

I'm happy to play completely mediocre games that just so happen to fit my tastes and niche. Picked up Mimic Logic for 3 or 4 dollars a bit ago on Steam. Is it AAA GOTY material? Nope. Was it worth a few bucks? Yup.

I can sympathize with normies "people" who need AAA glitzy graphics to keep them engaged but I guess I'm okay with fun games at a price that matches what's being offered. Even in the 90s when I was a kid, some games were worth buying and some games were just a rental.
