I always feel like 2013 something happened that made most mainstream stuff just unfun. With exceptions of course.
Indie has some good games from time to time.
But even there, it's getting more and more difficult to filter through all that stuff coming out.
It's just a general observation of how public opinion changes. The Club that was mentioned in this thread was declared a total crap back then. 3 hour long game where you shoot bots for points. People were demanding longer games back then and story focus seemed important.
I bet in 10 years youtubers will make videos about how Saints Row reboot is surprisingly fun to play and goofy culture wars stuff seems inoffensive and even nostalgic.
