Just got the news/listened to the episode.
I know they get a lot of hate but GIant Bomb was a gem for a long time in my eyes. They have been lost for a few years now, maybe more, but I sympthaize with them as someone who was in the industry for 5 plus years. The type of coverage they do just doesnt exist anymore and stuff like PAX and E3 being gone last year, along with them being sold again, likely on accelerated this.

Had Ryan not passed on, could he have kept the quality of Giant Bomb up or would he have been subsumed by the inevitable wokeism multiplied by the hobo-shit insanity that is the Bay area?
I loved Ryan, but I can't see a scenario where he didn't submit to the wokeshit and still remained at Giant Bomb. You either submit or get cancelled and go off on your own while mostly losing any opportunities to interview/interact with industry figures. If I remember right he made a public apology for using the word "gay" once in a joking sense, so he was already headed down that path.

I find it hard to respect Dan as a person because he just sounded like a moron regarding many things, unless I'm misunderstanding and that was his whole schtick, to act like a moron, but people say that about Kyle Bosman and I'm 99.9% thats not true and he's just a socially retarded... and not sure how else to say this but just not a worldly person.
They both just seem to know nothing about anything except for whats in their own tiny world and that sort of person scares me a bit. I probably sound like an arrogant cunt writing this but idc its how I feel.
Examples that totally irked me:
Dan: He revealed didn't know what mining was and how minerals and metals are extracted from the earth.
Kyle: He didn't know what "stock" was. As in making a stock from the bones and leftover carcass of chicken.
I think maybe the Kyle example was more of an American male thing since I've heard Brandon Jones - a 40 year old man - say I don't know how to cook anything more complicated than reheating a burrito or making toast and I'm like, whit?
I had more than a few run ins with Kyle Bosman in the chat where I was like "Seriously?!?? How can you have lived to this age and not know what X thing/concept is" and then months after Kyle announces he's leaving EZA to "travel the world and learn things". I'm not saying thats anything to do with me specifically ofc, but I think it got to him that he often didnt understand anything people were talking about that wasn't USA-centric or the things you learn in life above the level of "how not to smell bad or die from eating your own feces".

I always thought Dans "stupidity" was his schtick. He just played the role of the clueless country bumpkin. He played all his professors in college in order to graduate, has written several books and in my opinion has been the most successful out of the entire crew. He isn't a dummy.
Dan doesn't know plenty of shit. That's what happens when your entire childhood is action movies, video games and taco bell. If you watch any gameinformer stuff you can tell he's not joking. A more honest OT would be "still recovering from the passing of Ryan". The site was never the same after that guy passed, it was a 2 man show(him and Jeff) and he was the FUN part, the part that wanted to do things for money, Jeff is just "oh look the money went into my bank account" guy, he's like a sloth really.... a sloth that fucking HATES GAMING and EVERYTHING... even PUPPIES.
Ryan really was the part of the site that was happy, he seemed to the right amount of pushing too, like on that bushy haired scoops kid to keep that kind of attitude in line.
Vinny is great, but you can hear in his voice that he's not in a position to take control of things, he often sounds held back by probably Jeff, who knows once you deliver at a higher level you're always going to have to do so and Jeff doesn't want to do that, his bank account goes up at a negative energy level, so that's where he's making sure it stays to temper CBS's expectations.

Mostly spot on, although I think Giant Bomb continued to be pretty damn good at least through 2014 and probably 2015. The GBEast split really sealed the slow demise.
