The haterade drinker has arrived.

Almost halfway through 2021 and Giant Bomb still fucking sucks cock. Absolutely pathetic at this point.

Dan however is killing it. Fire Escape, his Twitch, and his WWE stuff (assuming he still works there!). How does the man find time!?

I haven't paid attention to GB in a while but Jeff's garage videos actually look pretty interesting.

Ok boom.

I'll have to watch this later

Real talk? This low-key content is the kind of material which GB has always exceeded at. My favorite vids were just Jeff sitting in his boxers - in front of his computer, drinking water out of a jam jar and bitching about the gaming industry

Whenever they try to be more like GameSpot or IGN or something... it fails. The whole "just some dudes on a couch talking about video games" approach has always been their strong suit, especially when their video production would goof up. The imperfections made it for me, at least

The rise of Youtubers and Twitch streamers sorta filled that niche though, and I think they tried to push their content elsewhere. New staff members didn't help

The OG crew are still some of the few video game industry personalities I can stomach. I enjoy them, the Retronauts guys, and AvoidingthePuddle.... that's legiterally about it. Everyone else is annoying.

If they could get Ranking of Fighters going again, I'll be a happy man

I would since I've been a fan since the late 2000s and love watching old AVGN when dranked.

Alas the good old days of that are over. It's tough just to watch him shill earbuds and shit nowadays.

Dude seems like a real mensch though, so there's still some respect remaining.

He's a family man now, and gives the bare minimum effort these days. He claims he doesn't have the time to do more due to familial obligations. Even goes as far as outsourcing a lot of his scripting, only showing up to play the AVGN role and collect his Youtube checks. It's become a source for memes with his more devoted fans. That's sorta what my post was a reference to lol

When it goes this far, it's time to just hang up the boots.

Outside observer, but you never want something that meant a lot to you and others to head into Simpsons 'Showing up for the check territory'. Better to give it a grand, awesome finale, while you still have love and time for it left.

Aren't Giant Bomb a bunch of SJW cucks nowadays? At least that's what I've read somewhere. They seem to be on the downward slide like most gaming news sites recently.

I was never a big fan of the Nerd, but I like James Rolfe for his movie reviews. And the guy has to be commended for not getting involved in any Internet slapfights. Even when people were for calling for his head after his Ghostbusters 2016 video went live, James ignored the backlash and has largely been vindicated by that movie being a turd.

I honestly can't blame him for taking the time off to be with his family. More power to him for that.

James ignored the backlash because he doesn't even really use the internet. Also he ended up seeing the movie anyway.

I've done my bit. Will Vinny reply?

Hey u/VinnyCaravella

Thanks for taking the time to read and reply to feedback. Over the years I feel that GB has shifted from a community-focused website (where the staff would regularly talk about the behind-the-scenes going ons, post on the official forums, etc etc) so it really is appreciated.

I personally don't have a problem with the quantity of games discussed.

I do have a problem with the quality of the discussion.

Unless it's a really big release, more often than not it's usually one person on the staff playing it, saying a short monologue, and then moving on to the next person.

This has only been made worse with the splitting of the coasts.

Back in the day, it wasn't uncommon for three or more of the staff to all be playing the same game. Usually one was doing it for a review (which are basically non-existent now) and the rest were playing it and could engage in discussion with it.

This regularly resulted in long discussions, sometimes 20 minutes or more in length, with different views and experiences.

It could be easy to say this is rose-tinted glasses, however through lockdown for the last year I've gone through the podcasts from 2008-2012 again (as well as the original run of The Hotspot) and I can tell you the difference in discourse is drastically different.

As someone who has followed the crew since Gamespot in 2005, been a subscriber of Giant Bomb since day 1, and someone who cares enough to write feedback, it would be good if you could consider this going forward.

I enjoy the "old man" discussions of home ownership, life in surburbia, etc etc, and appreciate things change over time - especially when it's a decade or more later and staff members have changed - but game discussion is the weakest part of Giant Bomb across the board now, on both coasts, and ultimately that isn't sustainable for a video game website.

Thanks again for taking the time to read the feedback and hopefully you don't see this as harsh criticism, rather constructive criticism from a long-time fan."

there's something to be said for not letting those kinds of thoughts pervade your life

but if he's not gonna do the work himself or give 100% (such as it is), it's best to put things down than create excuses like not enough time

Jeff, Jan and Jason are still gonna be there

Red Ventures cleaning house. Wonder where those guys will go? Vinny at least has a skill that can transition to their work. Brad though? Alex?

never liked the 'don't have time' thing, it's an easy excuse to not do something important
and what the fuck is he even doing anyways? like how much time does it take to make a video where he reads a script screenwave made for him, pretend to play video game and do this retarded face ":<" to look pissed off. His old videos seemed to have so much passion and genuine anger at stupid shit in old games. I can't even watch one minute of his new videos without cringing myself to death.

Vinny, Brad and Alex are leaving. Just announced on the Bombcast. There's a Ree thread on it that I'm not linking.

Gerstmann is sticking around.

Holy shit... I didn't expect it to be this fast, to be honest. Subscriptions and traffic must have really dried up. I know I stopped paying attention to the site for the most part in 2018 and really dropped it in 2019. Just couldn't stand listening to so much inane nonsense for a few nuggets of nostalgic stories from Jeff here and there. Sad since I really enjoyed the site and crew up through 2015 or so.

Vinny used to be one of my favorites, but I feel like he never found his element since the move back east (although some of the early stuff about his house buying adventures were fun) and then he went all weirdly woke especially after hiring Abby.

I think I'll give this new incarnation of Giant Bomb a try. Jeff has a kid now and with this existential threat, maybe he'll get back some of that old passion he once had.
