Thread: Elden Ring launches January 21, 2022
I was getting skeptical about this with how long the development was taking, but it really looks like the culmination of everything they've done up until this point.

- RPG elements and varied builds + dark medieval fantasy aesthetic of the Souls games.
- Faster combat of Bloodborne and Sekiro.
- Increased mobility and stealth mechanics from Sekiro.
- And now in an open world with even more stuff like mounts.

I really hope they don't fuck this up.

A lot of it looks very familiar. I'm sceptical about combat while riding a horse and some stuff I've seen. Very curious what they'll change regarding the combat. For me, Bloodborne had the best combat from any FROM games so far. Hope this goes into that direction.

Incredible stuff. I'm not even going to be mad about what happened to the Dragon's Dogma series now that we've got a release date for this.

that tree thing really gave me World Spiral Tree feel, which is no surprise since they had taken a lot of inspirations from Berserk in their older games also. must really hit hard for them with Miura's passing...

Looks decent. I say that as Bloodborne being one of my favorite games. It feels a little too samey to me.

So instead of hollowed or cursed undead, we play as 'tarnished'?

Wasn't expecting the fast and agile combat from Sekiro in this game. I thought it'd have the slow and methodical melee of a Dark Souls title. But I guess it's just a natural evolution for a Miyazaki project.

It looks great and the gameplay most likely will be solid, but I'm debating whether to get it. I've just realized after playing Sekiro and not finishing it that I have neither the patience nor the skill level to complete a FromSoft game. Wish Miyazaki and his team all the best though.

As a huge From mark this looks fantastic. I still need to play fucking Sekiro but the goddamn game never goes on sale.

Ok this game looks pretty awesome. With all the hype I was ready for a let down. Not looking like that's going to happen.

Can't wait to get a more in-depth look at it.

Day one purchase for me (pre-order, even). But I really fucking hope they lean more towards DS combat as opposed to Sekiro, rock-paper-scissors type of clickety click combat.

Some deets at the Bandai Namco website: -

The Golden Order has been broken.

Rise, Tarnished, and be guided by grace to brandish the power of the Elden Ring and become an Elden Lord in the Lands Between.

In the Lands Between ruled by Queen Marika the Eternal, the Elden Ring, the source of the Erdtree, has been shattered.

Marika's offspring, demigods all, claimed the shards of the Elden Ring known as the Great Runes, and the mad taint of their newfound strength triggered a war: The Shattering. A war that meant abandonment by the Greater Will.

And now the guidance of grace will be brought to the Tarnished who were spurned by the grace of gold and exiled from the Lands Between. Ye dead who yet live, your grace long lost, follow the path to the Lands Between beyond the foggy sea to stand before the Elden Ring.

And become the Elden Lord.

WORLD EXPLORATION IN THE LANDS BETWEEN

ELDEN RING features vast fantastical landscapes and shadowy, complex dungeons that are connected seamlessly.

Traverse the breathtaking world on foot or on horseback, alone or online with other players, and fully immerse yourself in the grassy plains, suffocating swamps, spiraling mountains, foreboding castles and other sites of grandeur on a scale never seen before in a FromSoftware title.

Connected seamlessly feels more Dark Souls than actual open world, which would be cool. Might just be wording, though.

Given you have the horse I would imagine the game world itself has to be a considerable size, but at the same time if it follows in the Souls tradition that in itself could be burdensome (hows it going to handle save states if you're travelling and get waylaid on the way?). I'm envisaging some big interconnected hubs versus a straight open world, but I guess we will find out eventually. Still a decent gameplay reveal trailer. I'm still fascinated with the whole arm thing.

I love the boss/enemy designs, they always excel with those.

Agreed. I love that they lean into fantasy with Dragons etc, but at the same time, they very much make it their own versus be derivative about it. One of my biggest complaints with a lot of fantasy games is this real beige D&D cookie-cutter approach at times. FROM always push beyond that to my mind.

The only thing I didn't like about it was the WOW-like way the mount was summoned, which makes it feel disposable. I'd much rather a system like BOTW, where you at least have to call it towards you.
