Saw DF's video… game is really unimpressive technically

Original never interested me so i'll pass here as well. But if you play it definitely go for pc version

joking... but serious question: what games are people playing that are so goddamn impressive!?

I don't play a lot of AAA or big budget stuff, but every time I spend the $60 (or via Gamepass) ... Elden Ring, Resident Evil 8, Atomic Heart, Street Fighter 6, Remnant II, people are knocking it. I was impressed and at times blown away by all these games. I think only the Sony first party games I've played have a consensus of being "impressive".

Even last year I played Dragon's Dogma 1 on PC and the lighting in the dungeons is as good as anything... much better than the gorgeous FFXV in feel, if not strictly 'technically'.

I'm very happy I have low standards lol but I'm genuinely curious -- what are these high watermarks most games aren't hitting?

Tldw mate ; it ain't the console's cpu xD

I mean, the 30fps performance is CPU related but the more interesting finding was the abysmal frame times. High end CPUs have 50+ fps in cities yet it feels like shit because the frame times are so erratic.

Hope Capcom will be able to fix it. But they have a bad track record regarding their tech fuckery so I don't have much hope.

I'm saying it's capcom not the cpu with nier ps4 esque graphics and npcs popping in front of your face

Technically it's what this team was able to squeeze out of the hardware, but…

@Spiders a lot mate… but no one said a game needs cutting edge tech to be good, i'm just interested in the tech stuff and not this game as far as playing it so all I have to say on it is its graphics

Artefacted low bitrate YouTube videos often don't represent the games well. On my PC, it looks rather impressive tbh. Running through the world, with the great lighting and all the physics going on, with the huge scale, it's a visually pleasing game. It looks and feels very consistent. I posted some screenshots here on the last page, the game can look pretty good.

I think it looks modern, and reasonably competent technically (awful SSR though) but not more than the avg. big budget release of the last 6 years

Like obviously it shouldn't take a 7800x3d to hit 60fps

Aaaand there are already cheats available that give you the ingame items that the MTX try to charge you for.

In general, the mtx are simply items you find in game, it's super dumb to purchase them. Especially because having those items being rare, is part of the game design and its appeal. The management of your funds and resources, planning your adventure, struggling, being happy if rewards are better than you expected etc. I usually mod out all the annoying stuff in these games - but here, it's just too much fun. Like inventory management, you can find these golden scarabs in the world that increase your weight limit. Finding them is rewarding, I don't even want to avoid that.

Just made it back to the capital after venturing out which took a few hours and I feel like I've been to hell and back. Several levels higher and quite a few quests to turn in but he ability to not return frequently really makes you plan your outings. Stoked to see what new skills I can unlock.

It's hard to imagine the cheats being any less game ruining than the MtX, they're just cheaper.

What happens when you die?

The amount a full health you can heal is lowered until you rest at a campfire which are not always close.

For example I was in enemy territory trying to hit a platform jump to retrieve one of the hidden tokens. I kept falling to my death which lets you either spawn back at the most recent inn or your most recent save with the healing handicap. A few missed jumps and I'm left with a third of my health as max health. No where near enough to fight my way out. Either I spawn at last save at the inn losing a lot of progress or find a way to make it to a campfire.

I had to sneak my way out to the nearest campfire. I still never retrieved that damn token.

Watching right now

Honestly unacceptable performance for the kind of visuals they are delivering. I'm still having a good time in the early hours, but I might take a break once I reach the capital.

Crazy that there is basically no hardware in existence that can deliver a smooth and consistent 60+ fps experience right now.

Not really, you still need material to teleport though, which are limited to quests or expensive or rare. It's all a paywall for a feature that should be common in 2024. They made it this way just to annoy some players into buying it. No one should be justifying this b.s

The game allows you to travel via oxcarts which you can just sleep through to arrive at the major destination. There are also port crystals in every major town and you can use ferrystones to transport to them.

Sure the game doesn't rain them down on you like candy but the entire game design is designed for you to explore and have an exciting journey. There are also loads of camping spots all over the place where you can rest if you need to regen.

This was all present in the first Dragon's Dogma, at this point from the uniformed wailing about microtransactions that can be completely ignored where everything is available in game was bad enough, but with people moaning about fast travel too I honestly think some people just want something to be angry about as an outlet for whatever is going wrong in their lives and to feel a part of something.

As for the lack of multiple character slots, some reasons are technical due to your pawn actually being stored online on Capcom's servers with unique ID per game sold I think.

The other reasons are game design decisions that I won't spoil regarding how new game plus works. (Assuming it works the same way as the first game).

Should MTX shit not be in the game at all? Sure that would be fine by me, but unless people also cried for days on end swallowing their own snot about RE4 or SF6 MTX then they can shut the fuck up about Dragon's Dogma 2. Just play the damn game and then you will get it.

I have a 7900XTX, Ryzen 5800X3D and 32GB 3200 DDR4 RAM. I consistently get I think over 100fps at 3440 x 1440 native res (no upscaling)

In towns there are sometimes hitches and drops but nothing like what people are describing online. Maybe I'm a weird outlier I don't know but it runs fine for me? I was honestly expecting like struggling to reach 45fps by the way people were going on.

Adult nerds chase their childhood dragons

It's why so many retro games are as coveted as they are, even when they've been bested tenfold by what's available currently. Still many will criticize new titles while longing for the days of their escapist youth and lack of real world responsibilities.

Played two and a half hours (including creating main and pawn).

On max settings with RTX @3440x1440 I get average 45 fps when I am in the first town and anything between 50 to 80 in the wilderness. Combat drops it to around 60 or so. It does feel all over the place and janky.

So far so good, though. Did a few quests. Time for bed.

Unable to save boy from wolves in time, turns out he was deeper in a cave I had previously looked into. The darkness hid the smaller interior entrance from the light of my parties lanterns on the prior expedition. By the time I realized the actual cave's location and backtracked across a chunk of map it was too late.

Sheer absolute rage. Save system has no take backs, every event good or bad is automatically saved like Dragons Dogma 1 and Dark Souls.

Actually considering restarting. That would go against the point though.

Edit - That aside, the game is absolutely incredible. Dragons Dogma 1 but fully realized.

Just made it to the capital city and, yeah... it's really bad. Constant microstutter and outlines of objects and shit are all flickery.

This one definitely need some more time in the oven.

If there's a body I believe you can raise them from the dead…. Honestly I have no idea how the tomb works but I assumed it was to get a do over on people that died which you didn't murder. I could be completely off base here.

Absolutely love that you have to figure shit out yourself.

Well shit boys I'm 16 hours in. Probably 14.5 of that was playin and 1.5 left on at the start menu while doing stuff.

I feel like I've barely scratched the surface. I hope they patch the game soon so that it stabilizes for the others.

Is pawn sharing region locked? I assume it is otherwise we should share our pawn codes or whatever.

On my rtx 4070 laptop, I'm getting about 75 fps on high settings at 1080 p in the field. Ray tracing off. Haven't reached the city as I fucking ditched Gregor and didn't know I needed him. I have to go all the way back to get him. But yeah, game runs fine so far.

What's your CPU and RAM (with speed)?

I'm on a 13600k and 32GB RAM at 5600mhz, I just reached the capitol and it's..... OK???

FPS generally between 40 and 50, mostly in the high 40s. There's definitely stutter going on and it's not feeling great, with some erratic camera stutters but it's not nearly as bad as I thought it'd be. Sometimes it feels pretty smooth, then hitches again, but it's very playable and for a non-combat area, not a deal breaker for me at all, not too bad.

I have a similar experience. I think having a very good CPU and not going for 4k helps a lot. Are you in the Capitol yet? There's some annoying hitching but it's far from game breaking for me.

I think RAM speed could also be a factor because we've seen modern games having big gains from faster memory.

Tested it during daytime with more NPCs and it was a bit worse than at night but not much different. NPC draw distance is a joke though. Better than what we're seeing on consoles, but still weird sometimes.

Y'all know I'm often critical of performance issues, bashed Trepang2 hard for it despite loving the game, the traversal stutters in Returnal. But here it's not really gameplay critical.

Arrived in Capital. Frame rate tanks to 30s there.

So far, the game is fairly easy. I really like the fact that I can level up vocations and switch them at will. Will experiment with a few once I level up my Fighter a bit more.

The performance is inexcusable based on graphics and overall fidelity. This looks at least five years old.

I'm running a 13900k just at stock and 64GB of 5600mhz DDR5 RAM. The reported framerate is usually above 60 or even 70, but it just feels awful and is constantly stuttering. Combined with the weird visual glitches (light sometimes bleeding through walls, flickering outlines of NPCs and objects, NPCs popping in and out of existence right in front of you, etc.) and it's just a bit frustrating considering how much time will likely be spent in this town. It's not the end of the world, but performance issues like this were the last thing I was expecting from this game. RE Engine games typically run really well.
