Thread: Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake launches November 14, I & II in 2025
Looks fantastic. I love this HD-2D style. I hope they go back to more of their NES/SNES catalogue and update them in this way.

Yup, hoping for the Zenithian Trilogy to get the same treatment. 4 & 5 are two of the most beloved entries in the series, so I don't see why they would skip it. Easy money to be made.

Its a natural progression.

I-III HD-2D will likely be the template for IV-V-VI HD-2D, possibly Final Fantasy IV-V-VI HD-2D Remakes.

And of course, theres always this being a leadup to a Chrono Trigger HD-2D Remake.

I will never forget the hype back in August 1991 when my issue of Nintendo Power came in the mail. It had a huge writeup about DQ2 (How to finish it before the upcoming DQ3)

Of course, I drooled over how massive and improved it was compared to the first 2. Unfortunately, I would not get to play DQ3 until the end of February and beginning of March 1992.

The wait for it was agonizing. Totally worth it though. It's the perfect classic JRPG and I'm utterly elated to be able to play it again in a way that looks to keep the original feel of the game alive.

While in an ideal world, we'd have the trilogy done in the same engine as DQ11... But this is looking beautiful regardless. The fact that it arrives one day before my birthday is perfect. I can't wait to experience it all over again. It's my absolute favourite game, ever.

I want FF remakes like this.

Or at the very least, Gimme Xenogears which was already in this style.

Anyway, I'll be there day 1 for this. Loved DQ8, missed the bus for the original trilogy so I'm definitely hoping on this time.

It looks really beautiful, and the way they revealed Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake with the art at the end was cool. The new graphics really take me back to the Game Boy Color days in a nostalgic, imaginative kind of way.

That was my thought as well, they've poured so much love into this and you can tell with the production value. They went beyond simply HD-2Ding it and clearly have been working hard at this for awhile to make it the best product possible.

Why is the 3rd game releasing before 1&2?

Or maybe I'm just confused. Either way, really excited for these. I pray for a DQ5 in the same vein. Hell, just give me the DS version on PS5. I'd buy it in an instant.

Same, wasn't a big DQ fan back in the days and never played the first ones. Bummed that the 3rd is coming out first. Most likely you can play in whatever order but still

Yeah, and with good reason, it's the most popular entry in the series.

I also couldn't help but notice in the trailer and screenshots we see an all-female party. I remember in Dragon Warrior III you could choose either a male or female hero, and if I remember correctly, for other party members as well. I think some classes benefitted depending on the gender or maybe it was just personality. But that was one of the interesting things about the game, the depth of you and your party, compared to the first game which was a short, simple solo adventure and the second game with predefined party members.

But it's gonna be a little weird for newer players to start with Dragon Quest III and later I & II, because even though the third game is the narrative beginning, to really appreciate the story and gameplay improvements it's best to play them in the original release order.

DQ III is actually the first game chronologically speaking. in DQ I you play as a descendant of the hero in DQ III.

Weird, while tuning up the OT for Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, I noticed on platforms it is releasing for the Xbox Series S and Nintendo Switch, but not for PS4? Please correct me if wrong.

Maybe Sony pushing PS4 owners towards PS5, PS5 Pro using Dragon Quest III HD-2D as a carrot? To be honest it is a pretty damn big carrot. Or maybe development issues arose leading to a delay and a PS4 version will be announced soon?

The Switch is approaching DS-tier levels of RPG library, and we ain't even done yet.
Switch will have just with Dragon Quest alone:

Mainline Dragon Quest Titles:
Dragon Quest XI S: Echo's of an Illusive Age
Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake
Dragon Quest I-II HD-2D Remake
I guess also Dragon Quest I-III the absolute shit versions.

Very Well Received Spinoffs
Dragon Quest Builders
Dragon Quest Builders 2

Mixed Received Spinoffs
Dragon Quest Treasures
Dragon Quest Monsters 3

Absolute bottom tier effort garbage tie-in that does nothing for a Epic that could easily have been a new Mainline Dragon Quest game:
Infinity Strash: DRAGON QUEST The Adventure of Dai

Switch will have
Dragon Quest XI S: Echo's of an Illusive Age
Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake
Dragon Quest I-II HD-2D Remake
I guess also Dragon Quest I-III the absolute shit versions.

Spinoffs
Dragon Quest Monsters 3
Dragon Quest Builders
Dragon Quest Builders 2
Dragon Quest Treasures

I suspect there will be a loooot of "top hidden gem RPGs on the Switch" videos and articles made in the upcoming years.

Here's a new gameplay video:

A lot of top notch inprovments.

Except Gender Selection has been replaced with Type A and B Appearances. Sick of this disgusting dehumanizing dystopia bullshit. Hopefully with this releasing on PC there will be a mod to undo that.

If I only had one game left to play for the rest of my life, it would be this. Looks absolutely beautiful. The soundtrack... Perfect. I seriously can't wait to visit Aliahan again.

DQ3 is chronologically the original game... Kinda. And I'm not talking just with 1 and 2.

But I implore anyone who even remotely likes JRPGs to give this a shot. You won't regret it.

I'm so happy this is happening...

Bravely Default 2 (Sorta though not in the HD-2D Group)
Trials of Mana Remaster (Ditto)
Octopath Traveler
Tactics Ogre Reborn
Live A Live HD-2D Remake
Octopath Traveler II
Star Ocean: The Second Story R

All of them are good to great, Octopath Traveler II and Star Ocean: The Second Story R are amazing near Generation Tier JRPGs but Dragon Quest HD-2D III Remake looks like the next level, right next to perfect aside from pronoun stupidity.

III HD-2D Remake barring truly terrible decisions will likely lead to a resurgence for Dragon Quest, carrying over to I/II HD-2D, possibly greenlighting IV-V-VI HD-2D, maybe even VII, VIII, IX Remasters/Remakes. Also renewed interest in XI, Builders 1/2, Monsters, ect, and of course XII.

If you don't care, or like the censoring, absolutely buy the game and enjoy.

But if you're tired of this shit and think it's disrespectful to basically call a dead man a racist, don't support this game or it will get worse

My most favourite game of all time. Seeing that latest trailer... It's just beautiful to see a game I love so dearly redone. (Idiotic changes and censorship aside...)

It's fitting that it arrives in time for my birthday. I'll feel like a kid again playing it.
