seven samurai is something I need to check out someday. Medival japan (whenever it was) is pretty a very interesting time period to say the least.
Sin City is such a cringe, edgelord movie for 14yos, so not that one. Haven't seen the other one, but it should win.
Seven Samurai is a great film. Not my favorite Kurasawa Samurai flick, but its still phenomenal and everyone should watch it. IMO the first half of the film is where its at. The building the band feels so special.
For me, it's Mifune who carries the film.
For me, it's Mifune who carries the film.
Fun fact, Mifune was originally supposed to play the Master Swordsman Kyuzo (the part went to Seiji Miyaguchi), when Kurosawa realized that he needed a comic relief character to bridge the gap between the samurai and the farmers. So the character of Kikuchiyo was created and Kurosawa thought no one but Toshiro Mifune could play the part.He usually does. He is simply a brilliant performer. But I agree, his character is my favorite in SS. Though Shimura was also excellent.
I also would like to watch it someday. I was trying to buy it a year or two ago, but it was hard finding a physical copy in stock in Australia for some reason. I'll just rent it out on iTunes to see it I guess.
I just looked today and apparently I have to import it from the UK. None of the streaming services in Australia have it. Very disappointing.I thought the live action japanese films weren't distributed outside japan due to some weird stingencies or something.
*Hugs Criterion Seven Samurai Blu Ray*
One of the best films humanity has ever created. Toshiro Mifune is the Japanese equivalent to Sean Connery in being a man's man. I might watch it tonight again, now that I think of it.
