I'm guessing a lot of super bosses you absolutely have to go back to only in Act 3 once you get limit break....I tried Golga again and got absolutely ass blasted and I'm around level 55ish. So I guess I may be.....whippin that Maelle Paintress ass soon.

Some strong endgame bosses out there. I just found an.... Interesting one a few days ago.

The toughest Mime in the game. Dude had crazy high HP strong attacks. You can only fight him one character at a time, no team allowed. Which is ok when you equip the Pictos for solo fights. When you beat him, the character you used for it gets a new haircut.... meaning no hair. Baldness.

Snagged it last night, couldn't resist. Not sure how quickly I'll play through it because I'd like to take it all in on the nice TV (65" Bravia OLED) and the wife is always watching some nonsense on it, lol.

I really enjoyed the intro though, I'm right after the scene at the dock. Really effective and sad. What's funny though is the thing that got me in the feels is the reminder that we should be getting games like this on a regular basis, but we don't. Like, we do in a sense because 3rd party games have been solid throughout this gen but all the same, it shouldn't take a team of people leaving Ubisoft to see their vision through and for "Journalists" to fawn over it. It's just a shame really that this is the position devs and gamers are in.

All the same, I'm really looking forward to see where the story goes and I'm really happy for the team, we need more focus on these types of games and less focus on dumb shit like Marathon. We know when a game is gonna flop, rather than clicks for ad revenue, I wish big YT channels would give more coverage to the games that are focused on delivering a cohesive vision and gameplay experience to players.

Ok so now I swept up all the missing optional areas, Flying Manor was interesting, others were cool as well.

I like how the game can just throw you into a level and you need to figure it out on your own. Like there was one small area with a bit of loot and then a bridge that didn't align and you couldn't cross. I bet most people just left after grabbing the loot, but there was an enemy visible in the distance so I kept looking and it turns out, very small hints and doing stuff makes the bridge align again. One off mechanic, not seen anywhere else in the game. Really cool.

Now I'm really done with the game and feel that emptiness that I get after finishing meaningful and awesome games. No motivation to jump into a new, lesser game.

Having the right loadout is key. Look at this shit, one counter attack, how many buffs got triggered. 64 burn applied :D It was a group counter, the others had fewer buffs, but Lune went through the roof here.

Alright guys, I think this game might be losing me. The first few areas were interesting, but then I went to the town of the idiots, where there wasn't much happening, and then was told to go to another idiot, who then wants me to bring him his rock pet.

I find the zones to be to small with very little to do. Exploration is often unrewarding, and the overworld is boring.

I really want to like this game but it's been getting in its own way a lot recently. Do things start opening up more soon?

It's a back of forth of jolly and despair. You're now in a jolly phase, keep playing and finish Act I at least, I'd say.

I found the characters to be charming, especially Esquie become one of my favorites, despite him being kinda off putting at the beginning.

There'll be a lot more to explore and many optional areas that give you Lumina points, new Pictos, new weapons, hair cuts and outfits.

But it seems like the design might not be for you. If you don't like it after finishing Act I, I don't think it'll be able to hold your interest.

Oh damn I forgot about that asshole. I gotta go back and beat him. Does it require limit break or is hitting all 9999 on the counters sufficient? I don't remember his health pool.

There are two of them in the game, this one is the second that's very late game.

The secret to that enemy is... It explodes itself. Every attack, it increases the number of bounces. Usually has so much health that you barely do any damage. Once you reach 20 consecutive parries, it dies.

Yeah I knew about that but....I really don't feel like parrying 200+ times to wait for that 🫤

So
Finished the game earlier. I did a fair bit of exploring during act 2, so decided to head straight for Lumiere in the final act. I feel like lingering questions were answered and loose ends were tied up.

Solid game. Really solid.

Just finished act 2 myself, very well done end to the act.

Also I learned this game is basically a copy of Myst!

Decided to head to the Monolith yesterday finally. Should be interesting to see how this goes since there's a whole bunch of stuff that I haven't even done yet. Trying to figure out how this is going to play out storywise.

I was getting pretty irritated yesterday though. There was one chromatic that I ran into in the open world early on that I wanted to go back and beat up prior to going to the Monolith. He smoked me and I wanted to find him for a little payback but for the life of me, I couldn't remember where exactly he was. It was some super tall, ice-based chromatic (not the ice dude in that dark cave). I'm sure I'll find him later on but I don't want to be OP'ed when I do. One thing that worries me is getting so OP that I'm one-shotting everyone and that's just not gonna be fun.

What does it mean when a pictos levels up? Roulette went from 5 to 20. But I can't see anything referencing levels and the description still says the same damage and still 5 points to equip.

For me, the major reason why the game industry is in a slump is because they stopped hiring passionate people. Whether it be in dev studios or journalism. They hired a bunch of mentally ill degenerates who don't even really like games. With this game, you can see what is possible with a passionate team. I remember when I was in the US as a kid and I would read Gamefan or EGM, they had passionate gamers on staff, who knew what they were talking about and who liked games as much as you did. Passionate people elevated gaming and hyped things up properly. These days, a trailer for GTA6 comes out and I can't really hype myself up cause I keep wondering just how woke will this game be. The old guard at R* didn't leave for no reason, so I'm not sold yet.

Gamefan gang.

They had their own issues in retrospect but I much prefer the enthusiast press to whatever the fuck you call this abomination now.
It's not a majority of the reason it's 100% of the reason. They've been fucking with tastemaking and gatekeeping so long they've indoctrinated the current developers (for the most part).

The stats that the picto grant when equipped go up, I think. You are describing the lumina ability, not the picto itself.

It's poorly explained in the game since they don't actually level up, it's just that you found a higher level version of a picto you already had. It only changes the base stats for equipping it. Same goes for the weapons, they don't actually level up naturally either.

I just destroyed him with my hands tied behind my back. Just saying.

Isn't that what the upgrade gems are for? You can manually level up weapons at a checkpoint or at camp.

Made it to the "open world" last night.

I'm enjoying the game, it's not without its flaws but they're are all things that could be easily fixed and I'll get used to them eventually.

Outside of the occasional goofy animation and geometry related jank, the only real "issues" I notice is that sometimes it's hard to tell what is going on in battle, it's not often and I think it stems from the color palette. Things just kind of blend in at times. The upgrade system is poorly explained IMO and navigating the menu is also a bit sloppy, I also chalk that up to the color palette, sometimes it's hard to tell what you're about to select within the UI. I also have some items that allows extra stat points and the ability to upgrade weapons to level 3 but I haven't seen anything within the inventory menu, or camp menu, that allows me to use these items.

Playing on normal and progressing just fine. The one field boss so far that was able to one shot was felled over the course of 5-10 attempts, that was satisfying and the auto-save is definitely appreciated.

It's a cool game and I remind myself of the $50 price point so I don't get overly critical on it. The story is also engaging. Gustave is leaning into douche territory for me but I expect serious character progression so I'm letting it slide for now. I'm really digging Lune, I walk around as her. It's so nice to see capable female characters who aren't written like men. My God what an awful trend that is.

Just wrapped it up at 85 hours

Really enjoyed the Endless tower and Simon fights the best

Curious to see how this game gets treated at the VGA's

Think we're likely to see GOTY go to MH: Wilds w/ Clair getting the RPG of the year

Dude. What the "H" "E" double hockey sticks is up with that "ending"? I feel like I just got
Repo Men'ed

I have a strong suspicion my multiple theories are all going to be correct. The only one I was off was Maelle being paintress....clearly she's Alicia.....unless she's both somehow...

My party is really powerful now, but some of the optional bosses are tough. I have one lass who heals herself 500k every turn and another the Snake who drains all AP and shields up.

Is there a trick/tactic to these fights you have to employ?

What does "powerful" mean to you? Are you level 99? at least 80? I mean even with the nerfs, most hard bosses can be defeated in one hit, and even more so in a full round with each of your party members going twice. It's about playing with the lumina to make your guys strong, stack all the damage up ones you can, even if they have downsides. You can farm lumina points in Renoir's Drafts, you can fight the vendor there over and over and he drops 1 to 2 lumina points every fight.

As for the snake I simply used the Shield Breaker sword on Maelle, makes the fight trivial.

Oh Im about level 70ish maybe 80 at an absolute stretch iirc. I'll have to double check that. Good shout on Mielles sword. Im currently leveling up one that starts her in virtuous stance. I suppose there's a bit more I should be doing than tackling the floating mansion final boss first, at my level.

Perhaps the most awesome but under rated thing in this game is how every buff is good/useful. Normally in an RPG you have one of two skills that are useful and the rest are just tiny boosts or limited/capped in some way to avoid breaking gameplay.

You can tell loads of hours have been put into making everything seem exciting/desirable and most importantly fun to use. If this game can do all that without level scaling enemies, every game should be able to manage.

Even the Baguette you can unlock as a weapon in the NG+ is viable in its own super weird way.

I'm tempted to put monoco away until NG+ and bring back lune. He's just boring to me and his only purpose really in my party is collecting more skills.
