Thread: Assassin's Creed: Shadows | OT | My Neighbor Yasuke
Official Thread
Watched a few Japanese live streams and they did a damn good job with the localization. You could tell the team put a lot of care into it even if the source material probably gave them a very hard time. Definitely gave a much better impression of the game. The only wierd thing was Yasuke speaking Japanese perfectly as if he was a native. They should have had a mostly fluent foreigner do his voiceover.

Yeah if you don't mind reading subtitles immersion mode truly is the way to go with this game. Full fluent in Japanese and Portuguese voices. I wish my eyes weren't as fucked up as they are and I could concentrate better I would leave it enabled instead of English.

Expert combat with Naoe is pretty hard in the beginning. But once I got the kusarigama holy shit that heavy attack aoe is insane

I love going into castles and chopping up all the doors into pieces :)

Do you just spam all the forums you're on with the same mundane opinions?

I don't like Spiderman 2 or Dragon Age but didn't go in those threads and shit it up for the people who spent their hard earned money on their games. I let them experience the game for themselves and let them come to their own conclusions

I've seen Ubisoft stock dropped another 7+% in the last 24h. I think it is time to seriously consider whether this game will be the final nail in their coffin.

Who cares about stonks. They have their cash flow. Next Summer Games Fest they will show Black Flag remake, AC Hexe, Far Cry 7, Beyond Good & Evil 2 and some Switch 2 games. They will go to the moon.

Cash flow? You realise they are 2 Billion+ in debt? And not making profits from the games they are releasing?

They went from 1+billion cash on hand last March to 370 million by September.

It is more probable that time is something that they do not have. Financing 5 more big releases is beyond them if this game fails to turn big profits. Even 1 would be a struggle.

You have a lot of time on your hands reading about shit you hate. For me I spend my time doing stuff I like.

Back on topic. Taking my time completing the castles and every shrine I see :) my comfort food

Combat and stealth wise, how does this compare to Ghost of Tsushima?

Combat in expert i'm finding it more challenging with Naoe on expert than Ghosts. You definitely don't want to take on more than two guys at once and you're encouraged to go the stealth route. The stealth in this game is great and feels more like the old AC titles. 11 hours in and I still haven't touched Yasuke.

Naoe is weak at the beginning until you get the kusarigama and build the forge to upgrade your weapons and armor. You srill want to avoid fighting groups of enemies

If somebody tells me the best way to experience a game is with multi-frame generation, I will immediately think they're a clown or a shill.

If you have a 5080/5090 its a greatway to experience the game. Without FG im getting around 60 fps. With FG on im getting 100 fps and it feels smooth to me than other games

When your base frame rate is like +80fps, you can add MFG to get a super fluid experience going up to over 200fps for very high fps monitors. At that point, input lag isn't noticable. Especially not with a controller, no way you'll feel a difference.

I'm using normal frame generation in MH Wilds to get from +70 to a locked +100 fps and it honestly feels really good, looks smooth, feels fluid and is a very good way to play the game. With DLAA though, reducing artefacts and stuff.

I will say Ubisoft/Nividia needs to sort out the DLSS/Framegen disappearing issue. Starting to get annoying having to fuck with DLSS swapper everytime I want to launch the game

in terms of PSSR, we analysed PSSR and TAA that the time of shipping AC Shadows and found better results with our TAA solution. However, PSSR is a new upscaler and after an in-depth collaboration with Sony over the past few months, many issues have been addressed, mostly around moving vegetation and water - problems that other titles have faced. We're now confident that the image quality with PSSR will always be better than with TAA.

RT reflections were developed after the initial delay to AC Shadows. Given the shift in our release window, we wanted to make sure we remained competitive on high-end PCs and PS5 Pro. We had an extremely motivated team that had learned a lot developing the RTGI solution, and felt confident in achieving the objective of shipping RT reflections with a 30fps performance target on Pro. For launch, our priority was quality mode specifically to ensure it didn't prompt graphical artefacts or other issues. We've continued to optimise RT reflections and the game in general, and we're happy to say that a future update will enable RT reflections on PS5 Pro's balanced mode.

AC Shadows to get PSSR support, RT Reflections on Balanced mode, on PS5 Pro in a later update, PSSR now "always better" than TAAU

Interesting, looks like they needed even more time lol. Seems like the game is already in a good state though, tech wise. I want the PC analysis.

Seems console is picking up the slack for the somewhat lacklustre PC sales? A shame we don't have hard data for the total sales.

I don't think this will top Valhalla in terms of sheer numbers, but anything less is probably not enough to save Ubisoft... Terrible position to be in.

I think Ubisoft don't expect to repeat Valhalla sales. They are hoping for Odyssey numbers and they might get there.

It's the only new noteworthy release right now though. Any halfway popular game would be number one if released in this time slot tbh. Look at those lists, it's all old games outside of MH Wilds and Split Fiction. Games that are past their sales peak.

It doesn't tell us that much.

While Assassins' Creed is huge, don't forget:

Tales of Graces F Remaster
Trails into Daybreak Part II
Kingdom Come Deliverance II
Split Fiction
Monster Hunter Wilds
Avowed
Suikoden I&II HD Remaster
Xenoblade Chronicles X DE

Megaton releases, smaller niche releases, all costing money released in the past few weeks, and a lot of gamers will be holding off for sales, or picking one of those games, maybe one other.

Ie, splitting a lot of potental customers due to the variety of these games, some of which are absolutly massive, like Kingdom Come Deliverance II, Monster Hunter, Xenoblade Chronicles X DE each easily 100 hours if not more.

Nevermind people on releases from past few years, ie the people who actually commit to their backlogs and are likely still on Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth, Persona 3 RE, SMT V/Vengeance, Rise of the Ronin, Path of Exile 2, hell Assassins Creed Valhalla or Assassins Creed Mirage ect .

Unless they were prioritizing Shadows/Are AC Fans foremost.

In general, the gaming space got more crowded and even a good normal AC game isn't anything special anymore. To be a sales banger, games need to be more unique to create excitement.

It's not about multiple hundred million dollar projects anymore. Look at Space Marine 2, it reached 225k concurrent players on Steam with a significantly lower budget. The industry needs to adjust the scale of the projects.

Good numbers for a SP game

Middling numbers for a game that cost multiple hundred million dollars to make and has a huge marketing budget. But good for an sp game in general that would just release.

Good and great numbers for very successful titles look different. Some comparisons:

Veilguard at 89k was a financial failure
Space Marine 2 reached 225k and was a success, way lower dev costs
Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 at 256k but that's a very PC centric game I'd say, still a tiny budget compared to AC Shadows. The first KDC had 96k.
Cyberpunk and Witcher 3 had over a million each
Fallout 4 had like 470k
Stalker 2 over 120k
Dying Light 2 275k
Starfield 330k
Dragons Dogma 2 228k

I think consoles will have a larger share of the sales for this game, and it'll sell decently. Maybe 3-4 million overall I'd guess after some discounts. Which won't be nearly enough to be a success when taking the investment into account.

But yes, on its own, isolated, good numbers for an sp game.

Ubisoft is doomed yes we get it. @HE1NZ when are you upgrading your PC so we can get more gameplay impressions. Can't play more until later today :(

I mean, yes their financial statements strongly suggest that they're doomed. Don't know why there's any controversy around that, their finances look like shit, they're struggling to survive.

Doesn't mean the game is bad and that you can't enjoy it. It's just that it doesn't seem to be the sales banger they'd need to stay afloat. Which imo isn't even caused by the culture war stuff that they forced into the game. The market is oversaturated with these kinds of games and it's unlikely that it'll be a +10mil seller.

I think Ubis business model needs to change, it's not sustainable and this might be the last AC game with that kind of a budget. Possibly.

Yeah I'm pretty sure I mentioned something similar before. The vast majority of gamers and fans of the series won't give a single shit about Yasuke or an obese woman sumo wrestler, they will care that the game appears to be mediocre at best and just more Ubisoft slop without anything exciting or refreshing happening.
