Thread: Aloy is gay now, and that's a good thing!
The entire cast of friends and sex and the city were all straight characters. Queer eye and the l word were both after the poll so they leaves will and grace. One whole show with 2 of the main characters being gay.

Would a show called friends and sex be very interesting if they were straight?

A bit of cruelty to be kind. I mean what was he going to argue next? Skintin posted the figures for Canada which are about 4%. How is he going to explain away that? The LGBT don't like the cold, that's why there are apparently 50% less of them as a percentage than in the US. It's absurd. Leave it a week and this thread is 400 pages deep because a guy too lazy to even add an avatar can't concede a point on data. Your time is all far too valuable to waste on a lost cause.

Blame it on bipolar bears in Canada who need colder tempherathers. With climax change you get more of them near the arcdick poleher circle.

Was that Nobody Important on a trolling mission? I mean honestly logic just went out the window with that dude, no structured logical debate, just insults. A poor trolling effort.

Not even from the US, so unlikely but definitely devoid of reason. Whole thing reminded me of this.

On a more serious note, I watched Orville last week, off course Charlie (the pretty new girl) was gay.
I watched Star Trek Picard. Seven of Nine is gay now, although she had a fling with Chakotay back in the day.
I watched ST: Lower Decks, and off course the main character is gay.
Several Marvel movies I watched lately have gay characters in them.

It's like this is everywhere now.

And I barely know any gays as well, and one trans person. Who is in a mental clinic right now, btw.

I live in a city of 1,7 million people.
Sorry, but this shit is so overblown it's not even funny anymore.

Add/edit: Forgot about the gay romance in Willow. I didn't watch Strange World or Lightyear, but both have gays in prominent roles in them as well it seems..

We live in a matriarchy

I'd call myself a very mainstream viewer of streaming content, and every fucking shit I watched in the last year has gay people in them in prominent roles.

How is that not weird if I don't know any gay people in real live.

Skintin is their only customer, and you know, he is terminally ill.

Skintin is trans now too?

This is the natural endgame from when they changed her from hot ginger, to fat sweaty ginger. Women are not allowed to be desirable from the gaze of men, nor aspirational to other women. Every other character must be gay, a women or ethnically diverse. Men must always be shown in a poor light, unless they meet the latter criteria. There are multiple genders not just two, and god forbid if you choose science, history and facts over this.

Disagree with this? Think there's two sides or something is a complex issue? Then you must be hateful or racist. There is no for perportionality, no measure of what fits in a crafted world or not. You are either an ally and must push this agenda everywhere or an enemy that must be cancelled.

Never have such small groups in history weld so much control and power. The oppression they say they have traditionally suffered, they inflict on others, with very real world consequences.

To be clear when it's implemented well and perportionaly and without an agenda I have no problems at all, as I'm sure nearly everyone here feels. You can tell what feels forced or natural very easily.

Gender 1 signing off.

Wait, who radicalized you?

I'll call the hate speech police!

What also sucks about all this infusion of gay people into everything is that they make for the most BORING characters most of the time. Oh, a gay person...whelp I guess they won't have anything wrong with them, go crazy, be evil, or struggle (unless it's because of the evil straight white male).

I've noticed that with women characters as well. They can be evil but will usually be a girl boss or have a redemption at the end.

Playing through Hogwarts, which is fantastic, I think I've encountered 3 gays. One who is a tranny whose backstory is the typical "I didn't know who I was, but thank goodness for Professor Touchles for grooming.....I mean, listening to me". That's fine, but can one of them be fucked up or evil? They're always the perfect person. Granted, I don't consume as much media as I used to because of the shift to the message so maybe these types of characters DO exist.

Fucking hell. 4 pages of this...

Me thinks d-pad has a lot of closeted angry girlboys. What's next, playing with each others dicks to see who has the biggest one?

Besides ... what self respecting man would touch this??

This went on for twelve to put the cringe into perspective.

Going to go with my gut on this and say that we're just going to have to wait until after 2025. Why 2025? I just think that we're going to see a lot of societal shift away from this bullshit as people become antagonized by the constant barrage. You give an inch, they try and take a mile, and so you correct it by settings things back. Public school and college enrollments are dropping from what I've been hearing. We're seeing home schooling on a massive uptick. We may not be able to vote progressives out of national offices, but I do think that we're going to see a lot more pushback on the transgendas and pushback on just how much representation is necessary for minority groups simply because a whole helluva lot of movies are tanking hard and very few new TV shows are catching on.

The real conclusion to all of this will start with the creative media as there's just no getting around the fact that normal people do not want to watch a bunch of queer stuff. It's majorly offputting. The nail in the coffin will be when even younger audiences that have been heavily indoctrinated into being allies are still off-put by homosexual romances in entertainment. You can't make normal something that is just not common.

I really hope he comes back for a new Mummy, just in way better shape and with the costars from the first two with a script and effects aiming for the quality of first one which is one of the best adventure films ever made.

Surprised we never not got a big budget Mummy game in the vein of Uncharted 2/Tomb Raider. Shame.

And then she opens her mouth and tells you how important she is and how she's not letting anyone get in her way of saving the world and… it's all so tiresome.

It's worst in FW because she is constantly rolling her eyes and explaining technology to lesser humans (men, mostly) in a childish way. At least the first game retained a sense of wonder and mystery as she explored but FW Aloy was trying to be a veteran Geralt-type character who knew far more than anyone about anything.

"Oh uh this piece of metal lets me talk to the… sky spirits!" *rolls her eyes* "Its not
Important, though. You need to help me or the world will be punished by the… sky spirits!"

I guess it goes to show when you have a smartphone plugged into your skull, you can seem very smart to people without one

There's something about these games that I just can't get into. I've tried the first game multiple times and I just can't get more than a few hours in. All that to say I could care less if she's gay.

I find myself always having to get bored by them and come back much later to try it again. They did a great job with the idea of going around hunting robo dinos and collecting parts to make upgrades and stuff, but most other aspects are just so boring.

The first one had some story elements that were kinda cool, but the execution just wasn't fully there. And the visual style of everyone looking like a moron with half of a junkyard glued to their heads is such a put-off. I can't take any of it seriously enough to pay attention to the boring shit they're saying.

The thread seems to be getting a little heated. However, I think the poll that Expand posted is on point.

Percentage-wise the entirety of LGBTQ+ as whole equates to roughly 1 in every 33 people. Which aligns with similar polls in the UK. I think years ago there was some 1in 10 figure being bandied around which a lot of people bought into, but has long since been debunked. Working in creative I'd say the percentage feels a little bit higher, in terms of representation but I think that comes with the territory.

I don't think anyone is objecting to representation, but more marvelling at how over-represented it is becoming in media. From what I understand the Aloy thing is an optional choice versus a given? So it's perhaps not that egregious, but a certain ennui is beginning to creep in. The other day I was watching Ted Lasso season 3 and they inexplicably went the bisexual route with a female character who up until that point had been quite clearly straight and it was a bit really? Especially given they'd already put emphasis on another character being gay (albeit closeted) as a storyline. Honestly, the gay character things feel like a creatively bankrupt move, where the writers mistake someone's sexuality for their personality when in reality it's merely a facet of it, and being a lesbian feels like a perfect fit for strong independent female in their eyes.

This is really one of my biggest issues in the push for "muh diversitah"... you've got an ethnically diverse starship crew of 4 people... 2 men, 2 women, all different racial/religious backgrounds... good, right? Even plausible! BUT WAIT, there's more! One of the dudes is bi-curious, the tough woman is ofc a lesbian, the other woman becomes bi-curious, the other dude accidentally bangs the bi-dude because cabin fever or something. Brilliant!

Media is more and more becoming a "choose your own adventure" like Mass Effect or Bioware titles... but with save backing up and trying every choice as well. It doesn't feel organic at all.

Example of good writing: Bill in TLoU... felt totally normal. He didn't run around with a rainbow shirt on and he was clearly ok with himself.

Example of bad writing: Ellie; why make her lesbian? Here you have a tough girl that's been through some traumatic shit and her only protector is this grizzled dad-figure who lost his baby girl. Is that not enough?

To me it's creating an archetype where if a girl/woman is tough they automatically have to be lesbian. And now we've gone backwards. Instead of tough woman is tough because she has seen some shit. It's tough woman is tough because she's strong wamman and she likes girls too. It is a lowkey implication you can't have tomboys unless they're lesbians.

My daughters are tough as nails, finishing their black belts in Hapkido, and enjoy hunting/shooting/fishing/camping/hiking/every sport possible. But they're both very straight (I knew that when I took them to Thor: Love and Thunder and they reacted to him being chained up... yeah. Course I don't blame 'em, lol). In media they couldn't be like that without being trans/lesbian. That's not fair and not good representation of the MAJORITY. And if folks are in the majority (especially women; whom gaming has been trying to court for years), why the fuck wouldn't you want to represent them at least a little?

Another example (fuck you writers!) of muh diversities to wrap this up: Clementine in TWD games. Amazing games. Tough survivor girl. Guess what? She's a lesbian.

Same. I blame Aloy. She is the most boring drip I've ever played as a main character. Her looks, personality, interactions….zzzzzzzzz. I figured she was asexual rather than gay because no one would want to be around her. The games are very well made and I keep telling myself that I'll get back to them but I never do.

It's 3% not 8% (maybe time to get your eyes checked)

100/3 = 33.333

UK Census comes out around the same figure for all LGBT (3.2%)

yT5cLfy.png

Given that the percentages are so low for LGB (and even lower for trans), from an evolutionary standpoint it would appear they are an aberration, and certainly not intended naturally to be part of the gene pool (and in a more primitive society, wouldn't be).

I say this as a guy who cares about LGBT people and has LGBT friends... but the over-normalization of it is counterproductive. I'm hearing stories about how its "trendy" to be gay or lesbian or trans in school now. You've got children trying to go through puberty and develop as people... and instead of letting that unfold normally, people are injecting preferences (and not even basic ones) into that. In engineering/scientific fields we'd say that's a great way to cause a catastrophic failure/explosion. In people the results are similar...

Yeah there's such a difference between being gay (small g) and being Flamboyantly extrovertedly Gay (cap G). You would think that gay people having their essence distilled down to that one facet in all these representations would bother them (who wants to be a marquee board instead of an actual, you know, person) but they don't seem to mind. The gay stereotype in everything is a distraction to gay people and an annoyance to straight people. Imagine if in every commercial, television show, movie and so on Big Gay Al from South Park showed up. No one wants that; and there is so much more to a person than where they stick their wee wee. And then when they do try to handle it at least somewhat subtly, they attach it to the worst fucking characters; if I was gay, I'd be offended they attached it to such an enormous fucking drip as Aloy. Bill is the rare exception, and that worked fine — dude was gay but he was multi-faceted and had actual depth…. And more importantly, you liked him.
