Thread: Nintendo Switch 2 launches June 5 for $449 (Update: Pre-orders begin April 24 in the U.S. and Canada)
I am going to be honest. We are just over a day from actually being able to pre-order in the US... and I am starting to consider not getting one at launch.

Not sure what has changed, MKW looks dope, DK looks like a blast and the $450 price seems fair (enough). But without even thinking about it, my enthusiasm waned over the weekend.

The only thing that has me still considering it is the fact that MKW bundle gets the game at $50 instead of the (mentally) painful $80 and the fact that I could just resell it on ebay and make and easy dollar.

I'm on the fence and leaning towards not getting at launch. Kind of want to wait for the eventual OLED model as well as the library to build up.

I'm going to hold off for awhile. Unless they announce something absolutely bonkers that is not expected (new punch out, for example) I can wait. I've got enough to play on the OG Switch still.

I was a bit worried about not getting one on day 1, but now that I think about it more I am in the same boat. I will still grab one, but if they sell out quick I am ok waiting. I thought about it some more and MK is fun, but not something I am crazy about. DK looks fun, but not something I need to play right away. Other then that all the other 3rd party stuff I already own on PC and can play on Steamdeck. The Switch 2 would mostly be for playing my Switch 1 backlog on a better screen until more games start coming out.

Japanese versions or games and accessories are cheaper. But does Play-Asia still ships free if spending over $80 for Switch 2 stuff?

Question: Realistically, what window of time will fans have to pre-order online via shops like Walmart, GameStop, Best Buy, Target, etc.

I'm not sure if anyone has a very accurate guess but I only know that the Nintendo 64 controller was extremely difficult to get hands on and purchase on time. And that was when the opportunity came out of nowhere as well…

I'm half dreading the pre-order rat race and half excited about it. Getting a console on the first day never seemed like such a sprint. But pre-orders start very early so maybe everyone who wants a NS2 will be able to secure one if they're on it

Sounds like there will be decent stock. I am guessing if you want one and are there at midnight when preorders open you will be able to get one. I think they will sell out quickly, but will still give enough time to get an order in. At the very least I think we will have a few minutes and it won't be a situation where you add the item to your cart at midnight and it's gone before you can finish checkout.

Assuming the sites don't crash...

I still don't like seeing them accept online orders for the most part. It's gonna get abused by scalper bots. They should have made it in person only and online only with a Nintendo account and the stipulations they set up. I expect on June 1st you'll see several hundred thousand listings from scalpers on Ebay, and that is a shame. Doing the same launch model after seeing what a negative, unmitigated shit show the PS5 and Series launches were rings tone deaf to me.

Yeah it sounds like the initial stock numbers will be higher than the original Switch by a solid margin. And the preorder starting at midnight eastern time plus some of the negativity around price etc, I expect anyone that is there at midnight who wants one will get one. (And if you sleep in and try to get on the morning, tough luck.) Will they last for four minutes or 40 minutes I don't know... would lean towards the former (agreed... as long as the sites don't crap out).

This is the wild card. They all claim they're trying to mitigate bots/scalpers on some level, but I doubt it'll entirely work. I too expect to see tons of these on ebay marked up by a couple hundred bucks. Hopefully supply is so high, these assholes will have wasted their time.

Still need to see 5 incredible reveals for the Switch 2 before going for it.

Need to see Zelda, Xenoblade 4/X-2, Fire Emblem Three Houses Successor, ect.
Metroid Prime 4 Beyond has been known for a while, looks good but is not a suprise.
Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza both look amazing, but are not priority franchises for me.
Pokemon looks like garbage. Gamefreak can give a good Black and White Remake or screw off.
Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster is a good one, but also near certain multiplatform.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment kind of, depends on what they do. Need a better roster then whats been shown, and a way better story then what we got in Tears of the Kingdom.

I'm with you but I don't think we'll be seeing 5 titles you want till 2027. I've accepted this is going to be a total downswing from the Switch generation in which it's going to be a 30Nintendo/70Thirdparty console trying to catch $ that the Switch couldn't play.

Nintendo's misguided mindset is that gamers only live within their ecosystem so all these 'new' games to a Nintendo console are a big deal.

I'm going into the Switch2 with the mindset I'll likely never buy more than 5-7 games for it over the course of it's lifetime but still have all of my Switch collection to go with it.

Nintendo pretty much told us this is a retread console so no reason to expect anything differently

It makes me think of the PSP to Vita days - In a way, it's just a really nice hardware upgrade to have for the rest of your Switch backlog while you also get to play the new Switch 2 bangers day one.

Maybe it's even much more comfortable to use as a handheld this time, too. Bigger screen that's 120hz, too.

The Switch 2 Pro controller just keep getting better. Looks like I'm picking this up on launch! Or try to!

USB-C jack up top and headphone/Mic jack on bottom! Nintendo today app has 3D look/toggle of controller!

Why did Nintendo go with that design for the NS2 Pro Controller with the top right and left buttons? Why the random gray color? I might hold off until there's a better looking version of it out. Seems like an odd choice but not sure what other color they would select in its place

Hopefully. The Switch is fairly clumsy and awkward to hold and play in handheld mode. I still enjoy playing with it in handheld mode, but it could be a lot better than the original Switch family

The question is do I try to buy the console and pro controller in the same transaction and risk getting neither, or do I buy the systems in one transaction and sacrifice my chance of getting the pro controller. I feel like the pro controller is going to be harder to get, but I'm going to feel pretty silly with a pro controller and no console if I'm wrong.

My question is how many consoles and controllers are each of our local stores going to receive for their online stock? The stores themselves, GameStop is supposed to get like 100 consoles right? So what will their warehouses receive? 1k-3k units? More than that? I'm not sure. But to answer your question, I'd go with both, unless the NS Pro Controller (original one) can be used on the NS2 then I'd say just go straight for the NS2

Looks like Europe has tons of stock. I don't think getting a console will be as difficult as people think it will be. Accessories on the other hand...

Since SW2 is compatible with SW1 controllers and also comes with two joycons, the demand for controllers and accessories shouldn't be too bad.

Digital Foundry has been so wrong with Switch 2. Why? It just seems intentional. 🤷‍♂️

I don't really pay attention to them. They are worried about technical merit almost exclusively. They're frame counters, pixel pickers, and even then, they're doing their analysis based on highly compressed videos and they end up being wrong a lot because the Switch 2 isn't out yet. They're basically just taking educated guesses. I just have no use for people who'd rather dissect a game instead of play it. Some do, and I am fine with that, but to me, it sucks all the enjoyment out of playing a game.

None of them are ever joyous to be actually playing a game with the exception of Linneman. The rest all seem cynical and jaded. They're more like forensic people instead of gamers. Again, just got no use for them.

It's not just about pixel counting(still an issue, doing it with unfinished games). It was also before Switch 2 was even announced, they've been shooting down all the spec leaks. Like they know as fact. The Die leak and the 4K leaks.

They've been proven wrong at almost everything about Switch 2. 🤷‍♂️

GameStop require deposits for preorders!! 🤣
Edit: Check your store commenters saying different prices!

That's actually good for me. Fewer retards clogging up the system and also I was going to pay mine off anyway. That's one benefit of Gamestop is you can pay off a preorder right away, or go and pay $50 increments or whatever you wanna do.

I just want mine paid off. I'd pay it off at any retailer if they'd let me but only Gamestop seems to do that.

People were preordering without deposits? That is so weird. If someone can't afford a console, they should just wait until they do have the money and then buy it.

I think inventory tonight is going to be high enough that it will be fairly easy to grab one. It's the accessories that I'm worried about. Particularly the GameCube controller. No news on when that is going to be available or whether you need to have the expansion pass to order or if I can just order with my regular nso.
