Thread: What is the best controller ever made?
Any recommendations for controllers that will last for about 5-10 years high quality controllers meant for fighting games? Specifically for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Mario Party. All the standard Gamecube controllers and Wavebird controllers (both of which would be the best options) cost a fortune now upwards of $150-300 last time checking the market value
OEM controllers can be had for $30-40 on Ebay. If you want Wireless wavebirds they can get pricy though.

Wavebirds are a little more expensive now than a few years ago, but not terrible. $60-80 with the receiver.

Keep in mind theres 2 versions of the wavebird and they arent marked. IIRC a 2.4 ghz and 900mhz. They each use their own separate receiver.

If Sony could juuust switch the position of the left analog stick on the Dualsense and maybe improve battery life, it would be just about perfect. Not sure that will ever happen though. So as it stands the Xbox controllers just feel better to me so I instead hope they will improve the general quality, make the d-pad less clicky and add gyro with the next iteration.

I also liked the GC controller a lot although I wouldn't use it at this point.

Yeah, it's surprisingly nice.

Not on par with my HORI RAP N or Mad Catz TE2, but it's absolutely up to 8bitdo standards. There's a good amount of weight to it for the size as well, though I prefer larger sticks

I'm happy to own it
well its pretty cheap too but its not very moddable. Was thinking about just getting a hitbox instead.

To me it's pretty obviously the DualSense and it's not even close, it makes the Xbox controller look extremely bare bones like as if MS isn't even trying.

I think it's a shame that more games don't make use of all it's features. To me it's crazy that they were able to put something like the adaptive trigger on a mass produced device and seem to have pulled it off.

If we are talking about the most influential than I would have to go with either the SNES controller or the first DualShock.

DualSense isnt a bad controller by any means but it just feels so gimmicky. Like something from Iwata era Nintendo.

Microphone, speaker, HD rumble, touch pad, gyro... i just wanna play games, man

If the Duelsense had the battery and native PC support of the Xbox controllers i would be all over it. The poor internal battery is inexcusable

@DonDonDonPata do you have any of these specific controllers in the article? I have the the last one on the list, and it's the worst. PowerA in general is very low quality and breaks so easily, if it even works in the first place. But I've seen the other options around and being used before, wonder if they're any good or if we can expect them to break in a year or two just like the rest

nah I don't have any of the aftermarket Smash bros controllers so I couldn't speak from personal experience.

I really don't get why people like the Dual Sense controllers so much. It's as if those are the only ones they ever used.

I've used them all and it's pretty much the best one for me in terms of ergonomics and features (haptics, adaptive triggers).

I wish knockoff Wavebirds were reliable, wouldn't mind paying $20 per if they worked the same and lasted for a year even if they felt kinda cheap

I just received my custom Dualsense. I decided to Disney it. Liking it so far, feeling great, 4 back paddles are useful. Only the DPad is pretty weak, muddy.

Ergonomically looks like an Xbox controller with the d-pad and analog stick switched.

It might be the shiny newness, but I have to go Dualsense. The controller is just ahead of the curve in so many ways. DS4 was as well.

I like the Xbox controller ergos; but it was at best a match for DS4 and totally eclipsed by the Dualsense/DS5.

I'd feel comfortable saying I've used every OEM controller for every system that's come out since NES and Dualsense is the best.

Off the top the only ones I'd compare are: Gamecube/Xbox (One/Series)/Wii Pro controller.

That design is just terribly ugly, let's be real man. And the fact that the Dpad is apparently second rate, it's wired, analog sticks have never been in their proper locations to max out ergonomic feel / support long gaming sessions… this is flat out a very disgusting controller to look at and think about. The four mappable buttons seem like a great idea though, not sure how they feel but extra buttons can help enhance a game. But that hideous controller even customized should cost no more than $60. Ya dun goofed rabbit-san, PS needs to do better

That post hurts me, physically.

So wuong. It's not wired, it's charging. Symetrical design is superior. Great controller.

How dare you insult a consumer product that I like. This means war.

I wish there was PS controller for me. I'm not a fan of them unless they're going to replicate the PS2 controller with some perks or the DS4 without that tacky screen top middle of the controller

Late to the thread, but are we talking about best controller design or the true best controller? If we're discussing design, then it's hard to beat the Xbox controller design. It's oft replicated now. If we're discussing build quality and features, then that's a different take entirely. I would prefer the Switch Pro controller over the current Xbox controller, but then 8Bitdo has their Ultimate Pro controller which is pretty amazing with great dpad and anti-drift analog sticks. The triggers are analog, too. It's a shame the Switch doesn't support analog triggers, but the controller is compatible with Windows and Android, so...

I do like the DualSense, but the symettrical analog stick design is a flaw and not a bonus. Nearly everything else about the controller, though, is phenomenal.

If only the Switch Pro Controller had a Dpad as great as the SNES controller, I would be able to call it the GOAT controller. The analog sticks are amazing. The feel and weight are perfect. Triggers are probably the best I've ever felt and I really enjoyed Xbox triggers but the Pro's are even better. If they found a way to map more buttons comfortably on the back or something, and added a slightly smaller version of the SNES Dpad then that would be the perfect controller

This is my current favorite.

Dude, I had no idea this existed… When did 8Bitdo make their own version of a NS Pro Controller? I imagine the dpad is almost as good as the SNES dpad, but is everything else about as luxurious as the official Pro Controller? $70 is a lot for a controller, especially one that isn't as great as Nintendo, Sony PlayStation, Xbox manufacturers and their controllers

My opinion? 8bitdo is better at making controllers than Nintendo is. I loved my Switch Pro controller, but that analog stick is complete trash, and the dpad had issues from day 1. I really haven't gotten to play Switch with the controller enough to compare rumble, but literally everything else about this controller is on par or superior to the Nintendo Pro controller. The one thing this doesn't have is Amiibo support. It supports motion. The analog sticks are drift proof. To wake up the Switch, you can shake the controller after powering it on. It's terrific, and i plan on playing TotK with this controller.

Note: I've owned this controller for a few months. So far, I've gotten to play Mario 3D World, Bowser's Fury, Metroid Prime Remastered and Mario Kart 8D mostly. I've really enjoyed my time with the controller. It's just that I don't feel like I've really gotten to sink more than maybe a dozen hours into it.

I've been so close to buying this controller for my Switch so many times. But $70 to make Switch a bit more comfy when I'm using it on the TV is just hard for me to pull the trigger on. But I think I still will get it.

I also wanted to know if the gyro is good on it. Monster Hunter Rise is one of my most played Switch games and I can kinda only play it with gyro now (for ranged weapons).

Probably is, at least if he's deciding it will be the controller to will play TOTK with. I'm mostly excited about trying out the dpad and seeing how it measures up to the SNES controller. Only thing is, @Optimus idk how you can dislike the analog sticks for the official Pro Controller. Those were built for Kings mah boi

How do these hold up? Has anyone used them before? Might go in blind tbh but doesn't hurt to ask. They're available for purchase on the official Nintendo website so I'd assume they're built like tanks and can withstand a good 5-10k hours of gaming if they're anything close to the official Nintendo Switch Pro Controller

They are quite good but the same company makes a "split pad pro compact" or something like that which I like a little better (the buttons are a little quieter).

Good for if you want something more substantial to hold onto in handheld mode with a real dpad, but they don't have motion or rumble.

I'll just use this thread for it, there are some neat ass designs for Switch and Xbox controllers here.

Some really cool ones with transparent materials and themes insides, with 3D figures etc. and not even expensive.

Do you know if these controllers are any good? I'm tempted to buy the Sonic one, I'm not even a Sonic fan but I kinda dig it.

I have the regular Switch Pro black controller and they are excellent controllers and the only way I can play Switch games. They have insanely good battery life too. The only con for the controller is the D-pad imo it's fine and gets the job done but there are way better D-pads out there.

It constantly registers single direction press as a two direction press. How Nintendo never fixed it is beyond me. I have to use grip controller for all 2D games.
