Thoughts?

MCU and superheroes have worn out their welcome post Endgame, and signs were already showing up even with Civil War and a lot of people despising the premise of superheroes fighting a war against one another, instead of, you know, uniting and helping the people of Earth like actual helpful people, and defending against actual exogenicadal alien threats.

Especially with the sad joke and shell of its former self Hollywood is now. Star Wars Sequels, Game of Thrones, DCU, Lord of the Rings TV, Halo Movies/TV, Mass Effect Movies, Alien 3 Retcon with returning cast on Earth, Harry Potter Prequels, Dark Universe they all had their chances to become the new/returning pop culture icon yet everything that could go wrong did, and all they will be remembered for was how they was crashed and burned instead.

I look at shows and cartoons, and they are either ultraviolet westerns borderline torture porn like Westworld, 1883, House of the Dragon or even more degenerate shit like like Velma which twists a beloved a classic like Scooby Doo into a modern piece of shit, while kids get stuff like Steven Universe. Nope.

Maybe Dune, Top Gun Maverick, Avatar 2 could indicate something of a actual shift back towards actual decent blockbusters instead of shoddy third rate Marvel templates? Likewise Puss in Boots 2 from what I hear could even be a kick in the ass for what has been a moribund dark age animated movie scene barring rare quality stuff like Wolf Walkers.

Dune Part 2, Avatar 3-5, Rebel Moon 1-2 will most likely shape the future of movies if they knock it out of the park.

Sad though. I don't see anything to bring back the hope that Star Wars, Superman and Lord of the Rings could inspire for entire generations. Top Gun Maverick does to a certain extent, but by 90s standards it would be a 2nd tier blockbuster to stuff like the Matrix or Independence Day, as damn good as it is.

Yesterday I heard they gave Picard to a guy who actually cares (has been working on DS9 back in the day) after Kurtzman and his Proteges have run that shit into the ground with the first two seasons.
Third season has the old crew back, everybody seems to be acting like a professional and not like emotional trainwrecks all the time, and the story seems to be good old Trek.

Things are turning around slowly. Even these people noticed they are not earning money with stories mainly about LGBTQ problems.

Not sure what is supposed to be wrong with House of the Dragon. It's easily one of the better modern-made shows (AKA shows made in the mind virus era) and I'd be pretty damn happy if its level of quality became the norm again.

Alien 3 Retcon with returning cast on Earth

w-w-wat

Edit:

WTF FUCKING FUCK?! Who hands these precious franchises to people who absolutely HATE them?!? Why? WHY?! We have Alien 3 and 4, fantastic movies despite some haters, and 4 left THE perfect premise for a final 5th movie before Sigourney Weaver is too old for her role: Xenomorphs reach Earth. That was the plot we're heading towards. And we don't need shitty Newt, you don't have to shoehorn a female lead in every Alien-movie, especially when WE HAVE SIGOURNEY WEAVER already.

Omg, this day sucks now ...

A lot of bad stuff out there. I was a movie enthusiast once, but fell off and now only watch like two movies per month on average. I liked the new Dune movie a lot, looking forward to the sequel. Other than that, I'm pretty indifferent to most movies.

Wow. You can tell any kind of story in Alien universe but they have to do The Farce Awakens.

Top Gun Maverick and Avatar 2 being amazing movies and having top box office numbers + academy awards nominations certainly gives me hope.

I kinda hate how D-Pad is being against Avatar 2 without even seeing it. You guys interested in anything other than political outrage? 6 pages discussing the most conservative movie in a decade while TrannyEra has 178.

I've become very picky as of late as to what movies and tv shows I want to watch. I just want to be entertained and not lectured to by a bunch of SJW hacks with an axe to grind. They've destroyed pop culture cornerstones like Star Trek (the double whammy of Discovery and Picard), Star Wars (everything has sucked except The Mandalorian), The Lord of the Rings (Rings of Power my ASS) and Doctor Who (fuck you Chris Chibnall). And potential IPs like The Witcher have been ruined by wokeness that it's lead actor (Henry Cavill) stepped away. Fortunately, it seems like Hollywood has gotten the message and is seemingly course correcting somewhat.

Funnily enough, the best entertainment I've received recently has come from animated shows. And no, I'm not talking about shows like Rick and Morty. I'm talking about stuff such as Arcane (a show based on fucking League of Legends that's brilliant? WTH?), Cyberpunk Edgerunners and the recent anime action comedy Spy x Family.

movies have always been low brow. Sorry plebs.

This. People cherry pick all the old stuff in threads like this and pretend as though everything was amazing.

Truth is, there was just as much trash released back then. Maybe even more. People are just old, jaded, and overexposed to media thanks to the ease of access via the internet.

yep. Books, music, movies... they all hit a critical mass before any of us were born, there are simply too many movies to be watched. The "classics" are the not-shit layer scraped off the top of decades upon decades of pop-hits, studio after studio rising and falling as they churn out [media]. All these Classics at our fingertips gives the impression that level of quality was the Standard.

Yep, actually I think if you search a bit you can find more 'entertaining stuff per month' now than back in the day.

Plus a lot of stuff that gets produced now has production values that were simply unthinkable back in the day.

If we get rid of the stain of woke shit in modern entertainment, this might actually become a golden era.

This shit seems to be more fun and original than any of the MCU crap. lmao

Production values are merely the polishing of a turd. Our entertainment is still lacking originality and stuck in this pessimistic 10s/20s mindset vs the exuberance and optimism of the 80s. There are some decent small films, no doubt, like Brian And Charles, but most of the indie scene is just angry lesbians and white people are racist, so that avenue is a lot more limited than it once was, while with Disney basically owning everything the blockbusters are all very samey and boring. Meanwhile there's nothing in the middle because everyone got sucked into the corporate monsters.

Well I decided to watch gundam witch from mercury. I'd say its good so far but it does have yuri bait and is set in a highschool. I'm not a huge gundam fan but I could see why one would be sort of mad at it since its kinda a cliche anime thing. I do think its a good show its got a good plot so far as long as you don't think too deeply about why a bunch of teenagers are given giant mechs and settle fights in a mideaval style duel. So depending on your opinion your gonna write this show off as complete trash or your going to think its alright. I'd say its not as good as double 0 which was the only other gundam I've watched.

Really? I never knew it existed actually.

Legit curious to watch it. It slipped under my radar at the time. lol
It's an old shame of hers and not something she's proud of. She tried to back out of the film once she realized she would be sharing screentime with a frigging dinosaur, but did it anyway because the studio would sue her ass for breach of contract.

Season 3 looks great.

Unfortunately it's the final season and fans have had to sit through two seasons of Picard acting like a cry-baby dementia patient in order to get what they should have gotten in season 1

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO many anime to pick from, and you chose Miorine-trash. Why? :/

I know yuri is a very cancerous genre that should be burned to the ground the consequences of anime have been disastrous for the whole human race.

Same. Movies used to pull me in like crazy and I would watch tons of them per year. But that stopped years ago. I'm glad there are some great TV shows out there as the longer form is great for some stories, but I miss loving movies.

I seriously probably watched 5 movies in 2022. I don't have a real count but I wouldn't be surprised if it was that low.
