Thoughts?
MCU and superheroes have worn out their welcome post Endgame, and signs were already showing up even with Civil War and a lot of people despising the premise of superheroes fighting a war against one another, instead of, you know, uniting and helping the people of Earth like actual helpful people, and defending against actual exogenicadal alien threats.
Especially with the sad joke and shell of its former self Hollywood is now. Star Wars Sequels, Game of Thrones, DCU, Lord of the Rings TV, Halo Movies/TV, Mass Effect Movies, Alien 3 Retcon with returning cast on Earth, Harry Potter Prequels, Dark Universe they all had their chances to become the new/returning pop culture icon yet everything that could go wrong did, and all they will be remembered for was how they was crashed and burned instead.
I look at shows and cartoons, and they are either ultraviolet westerns borderline torture porn like Westworld, 1883, House of the Dragon or even more degenerate shit like like Velma which twists a beloved a classic like Scooby Doo into a modern piece of shit, while kids get stuff like Steven Universe. Nope.
Maybe Dune, Top Gun Maverick, Avatar 2 could indicate something of a actual shift back towards actual decent blockbusters instead of shoddy third rate Marvel templates? Likewise Puss in Boots 2 from what I hear could even be a kick in the ass for what has been a moribund dark age animated movie scene barring rare quality stuff like Wolf Walkers.
Dune Part 2, Avatar 3-5, Rebel Moon 1-2 will most likely shape the future of movies if they knock it out of the park.
Sad though. I don't see anything to bring back the hope that Star Wars, Superman and Lord of the Rings could inspire for entire generations. Top Gun Maverick does to a certain extent, but by 90s standards it would be a 2nd tier blockbuster to stuff like the Matrix or Independence Day, as damn good as it is.
