Thread: Why Do So Many Modern Female Video Game Characters Look Androgynous Or Downright Manly?
Game Of The Generation
Game Of The Year
A shame they will never be this hot and dangerous ever again. The modern Sister codexes are abominable. You can clearly see which artwork in those is from older editions. Luckily Raging Heroes make the best Sister models ever made.
In the novels at least they're still hot. The most recent Caiphus Cain book talks about how banging a Sister Superior is, thanks to exercise and rejuvenate treatments giving her the body of a woman in her 20's, when she's actually over a hundred, and Plague War had a Guardsman wondering if the Ecclesiarchy specifically only recruit Sisters based on who they fancy, because they're universally all total babes.

It's just the artwork that's become Twitter bait. I mean yeah, the miniature's heads look like malformed potatoes, but that's always been the case with most of GW's female sculpts.

Ehh, the Sororitas books I've read that have been written in the past few years paint them as ridiculous as they've always been. That being said 40k has always been the books to me, table top wargaming and miniatures have never been my bag.

Choose one.

American culture has gotten really insane. I wonder when the pendulum will swing back, and how far.
I mean whether those people like it or not it's not going to be accepted to be a single guy with a onlyfans. it's just the truth

I hate what they did to Amicia in A Plague Tale 2:

I think a lot of it has to do with the increase in graphic technologies, plus the difficulty involved in making realistic skin/faces. We all know women generally have smoother, softer skin, however they still also have flaws, just like men do. But the difference is that with men it's not as noticeable.

For example men have beards, and it's not uncommon for men to have scarring so if the graphics aren't perfect on a male face, it's not as noticeable. But if there's graphical flaws on a female face, it stands out more.
It's not that they're ugly, it's just a challenge to capture the fairness of a woman.

With forums like ResetEra and outlets like Eurogamer, Polygon and Kotaku being popular you can really see why developers are maybe a little scared to make the wrong move with female character designs.

Publishers will want to use platforms like Twitter and YouTube to actively market and sell their product. You make that female character look a bit too hot or a bit too sexy and suddenly every mention of your game comes with a side order of screeching lunatics.

Most games require pretty significant investment and there will absolutely be attempts to minimize the risk of bringing out a game and not making any money. Who wants to spend years putting together a complicated video game project only to see your game publicly dragged through the mud because your character designers "invited the male gaze"?

The end result of Feminist Frequency, Polygon and Kotaku think-pieces and ResetEra is that game developers will play it safe in as many areas as possible. Make sure the game isn't too hard, make sure the story has nods to LGBTQ, make sure the characters are diverse and the women aren't too sexy and remember that there are thousands of people out there ready to have a meltdown if you make even the slightest mistake.

You can make a really simple model of a beautiful woman, it's not that hard. This shit is deliberate. They want to uglify the women as much as possible to avoid the "male gaze" lmao

I booted up Need for Speed Underground 2 yesterday. It was so nice to see Brooke Burke at the height of her beauty greeting me (she looks awful now but that's beside the point). God how times have changed. lol

The tail shouldn't wag the dog.

As a big Tomb Raider fan I thought the new Lara looked good. She just didn't look like Lara Croft. And her character was as dull as can be. I was glad when the origin trilogy was over so they can move on to a slightly older Lara like in the original games. But in this day I expet to be disappointed. I see a lot of people in the TR community on Twitter applauding concepts where she looks very manly. Companies today are too afraid to make characters like the original Lara Croft. We will probably end up with a buff macho looking woman with no personality.

I thought she looked good in the first installment. She still had boobs, she had a pretty face, she was very interesting. But the later games made her face look progressively worse.

I actually like RotTR Lara the most out of all of them. In the first game, she had dead eyes.

Games are just getting more realistic.

It makes you wonder about the people complaining. If we're being honest, wouldn't you think there's a 95% chance those who are nit-picking have limited exposure to close relationships with real women and even less romantic experience. Maybe a 5% chance the critic is actually super attractive with exceptionally high standards. I don't know...

Also Alicia Vikander is very attractive. Source: Ex Machina

Getting more realistic and yet they can't actually make models that look like the actress they're using lol.

Even the previous generation couldn't get it right. Look at how Bioware messed up the looks of Yvonne Strahovski when making Miranda in Mass Effect 2.

For all their boasting about using facial capture tech to capture the likenesses of actors ingame, western developers seem to fuck up more often than not. Now I wonder if it's intentional. While on the other side of the world, Japan seems to have made an effort to not make their character models look like mistakes of nature.

Jesus. They even managed to nail a young Lindsay Wagner during her prime as the Bionic Woman.

If 0:44 looks like a girl to you, then I'm happy for you. You'll definitely be able to adapt to the trans-future that's coming to the world.

Dude it looks like a girl. The bitch is just ugly.

Some females are just not attractive.

I'm sure the Horizon devs would say she isn't supposed to be exactly like the reference, but I bet if that actress didn't wear makeup, dyed her hair, and camped outside for a month she'd look very close. The main difference in those pictures is focal length, makeup and sun damage.

Have you seen Ex Machina? I'm thinking of how she looks at the end.

Joking or willful ignorance? I just can't tell.

If she camped outside for a month she wouldn't look like a trailer dwelling cheeto eater like Alloy.
