Thread: Your Weeb Stuff
I hate you so much lol. You're the arc-typical "I only know a tiny fraction of old-ass anime that I hold up as a shining beacon and shit on everything else, even though I have no idea about what else is out there".

Bebop and Ninja Scroll are shit. Like, really bad.

The reality is, that yes, most people will understand the most mainstream stuff, yet have problems with what you consider as "good" as a pillow-with-ahegao-face-underage-girls-on-it-fucker.

That's normal in every genre.

Most people like "the Exorcist", but will probably be a bit upset if being confronted with cannibal movies by Umberto Lenzi.

I call bs. We're not talking about ahegao-harem bs here.

It's not asked too much to know the following anime if you wanna pretend to be knowledgable:

- Death Note
- Hunter X Hunter
- Berserk
- Claymore
- Gintama
- Neon Genesis Evangelion
- Monster
- Kaiji
- Hanasaku Iroha
- etc.

And these are also still pretty mainstream. But when people mention Bebop, Champloo, Ghibli and end it with Naruto, One Piece and Dragon Ball, I get upset. It's okay to like these shows, I like some of them, too. But don't think you can be a judge of the medium.

I don't pretend to be knowledgable. And I don't have any idea of if that stuff you posted (except Evangelion) is any good, because I simply haven't seen it. It might possibly be checking out a few things from that list even.

My condemnation of weeb shit is more about the associated culture and its members, which for the most part seem utterly cringe to me.

thing is that lately I've been digging through a lot of old anime from the 80s to 90s time frame. What I've seen in comparison is that the old 80s artstyles looks really good while the ones made in the last 20 years have been kinda a hit or miss at times. There's things I've seen in old anime that wouldn't fly today like including religion in the anime where as now thats not a thing since the japanese have begun to reject religion altogether. In a way it feels like a glass half full or half empty kinda thing.

Nobody's boy Remi is still the most depressing anime I ever saw, started rewatching it yesterday as looking through my BDs.

How many of the past 20 years have you watched? And how many 80s anime have you watched?

Also the Golden Age of anime is the 90s to 2005.

What would make you say this? I didn't like most mainstream series from the last decades that much.

lately been digging through 80s anime and found some interesting series

dan gai oh
kimagure orange road
macross movie
dancouga (currently watching)
lupin part 2
dragonball and z
robotech (guess we can count this as three different anime lol)
dragon's heaven
castle of cagliostro (before 80s but just a year before)
golion (first episode not sure if the voltron variant is actually better was originally a gritty r rated kids show that flopped and was brought over here)

as for the last 25 years I've seen more of

violet evergarden
mha
db super
hxh (both versions)
re:zero
spice and wolf
your name
a silent voice
full metal panic
tokyo ghoul
demon slayer
bleach
yugioh
sword art online
little of spy family and bocchi (a few of the manga chapters)
gundam 00
gundam witch from mercury
gintama
death note

majority of the anime I've listed I liked and a ton more I want to watch.

The last Anime I watched was Redline, but only because an online weeb friend of mine talked me into it by using my main hobby of Vintage Hot Rods and appreciation for skilled art in general. Redline stands out because it was wholly hand drawn, something that a lot of studios have gotten away from.

But since my original post didn't stick. Ahem, Let me be clear:

That's how I tend to view the subject in general. The hobby has insufferable manbabies, like I said. People who unironically do Naruto Runs as adults is about as exciting as hipsters using IPA's as a personality.

I really dislike the modern anime (after 95) look though. I'm trying to find complete hi-res versions of Uchuusen Sagittarius and Meme Iro Iro Yume no Tabi. Was screening when I was a kid and really enjoyed these children shows.

idk imo the way things are now I don't see the improvements compared to the 80s. Yeah we get 30-40 shows a season but most of those shows are crap as was back in the day. Yeah I watched a lot of stuff but I like to dig around alot. problem is with more modern anime is the writing feels more formulaic like the isekai and battle shounen crap. It feels like it gets too formulaic eventually. Yeah you could say that about old anime but for some reason it feels different like the plots had tropes that television shows usually have but their not the same formulaic.

To be clear new anime is good as well but I think the quality of the stories being told became way too formulaic. Too many of those "That Time I" shows. I don't know why their making those shows and I think there's too much crap to shift through since there was already way too much crap to begin with. I liked Demon Slayer and hated mha the more I watched it. Wish Spice and Wolf would be finished sometime though that was a good anime.

Another thing is that some anime go on for way to long overall. Most shounen battle anime just drag on forever and get boring to watch after a bit. Imo the animes that don't stretch out forever are a lot better than any of those shounen shows are.

Another thing is that the mal forums are pretty bad about promoting old anime to people so people get this weird impression that it was worse back then.

I cant imagine anything drying up a pussy faster than seeing anime figurines in your house lol

The only anime figures I have were bought for me by a woman I was hanging out with.

You had a point then you had to go full retard at the end.

I lost most of my weeb stuff in Houston when I became homeless like 7 years ago. Now I just have a handful of artbooks and aforementioned figures I got for my birthday.

Below my weeb-stuff, sans Xenoblade-stuff:

IMG-20230510-234214.jpg

My "Fantastic Children"-collection, consisting of DVD-box, soundtrack, GBA-game and manga. The best anime in existence, the best adventure you'll ever experience. If you get past the "childish" artstyle that is completely deceiving.

IMG-20230510-234250.jpg

The only manga I still keep around, sold everything else. Dragon Ball was my first manga I bought and it's somewhat melancholic to know that this story wouldn't be able to exist in today's outrage culture. It won't be long before this gets censored, too, so I'll keep this original version around.

My post was tongue in cheek. The Japanese car culture is exactly what that video talks about. They take a bit of everyone's culture and add their own flavor. It's awesome because they are brothers in arms when it comes to preserving and making their own mark on car culture around the world. They do it to such a high degree, that they are respected in the US for their skills and artistry with how they do it.

So it is an anti-weeb, because I don't know the Japanese word that is equivalent from their pov latching onto Western culture and celebrating it as an identity.

These guys are Japanese men who moved to the USA because they love our culture as well:
Timestamped at 15:50 (I've met this guy at few times at shows in California, the whole Shifters car club did a lot to taking the 80's boring easter egg old man hot rod back into the Punk Rock Hot Rod culture we had which ended in the 60's.)

This is a neat video on a Japanese guy who jumped in feet first into the LA Chicano culture:

My only regret was not being able to collect One Piece early on. There was only the 4kids version and that version initially turned me off.

I didn't know back then how to buy Anime. Only place was to wait for Media Play to get stuff in.

It just seem too daunting a task to try!

With release of One Piece live action, I've gone back and watch a couple of my favorite Arcs, Water 7 and Alabastar. Soo Good!

What's the best way to get into the D? I'm probably one of the few that wanted to punch the kid at the end of Grave of the Fireflies.

I am alarmed and disappointed by the amount of young men I see driving their car with a bunch of waifu stickers plastered all over it. You're supposed to have shame about that sort of thing. This is a new trend that must be stopped.

As for topic, I don't have weeb shit. I did see a Tanjiro costume and thought that might be fun for Halloween.

Criminal lack of Slayers and anything Gundam.
