Thread: Your favorite celebrity encounter
I used to work in broadcasting so I've nobbed the hob of many a TV/Film/Videogame/Sports celebrity and politician.. my favorite though was a completely incidental run-in.

We were in Miami/South Beach for a gig staying at the National Hotel (topless - pool/beach). We were walking back to the hotel one night and saw they were filming the next season's premier for CSI: Miami in the hotels entrance/drive. The blonde and black coroner lady (also from News Radio) were off to the side, so we walked over and struck up a conversation. They were completely cool and told us to catch them at the beach the next day.

We thought they were just being nice, so we didn't think much of it. The next day we had a few minutes to walk the beach and spotted both lying side by side under an umbrella. They noticed us immediately and called us over. We talked for a few minutes and they invited us to join them. Unfortunately we have to get back to the convention center, so we had to decline.

That was the last we saw of them.

I saw Scott Yaphe, aka Wink Yahoo, at Canada's Wonderland one time walking around with his family

I don't care about any celebrities. I just keep doing what I'm doing when I see one. During interactions I treat them like everyone else.

Like one celeb encounter in a hotel in Munich. I was eating breakfast and noticed someone looking at me. In front of me on the table, sat Lukas Podolski, a soccer player. He kept looking at me, expecting me to recognize him and say something. I obviously didn't.
After some time I looked at him, asked bluntly "what?", he quickly looked away and I continued eating my breakfast.

You said "what" in English to a soccer player in Munich. I'm not sure your story holds up.

I've had personal interactions with the following celebrities...

Tom Green (twice)

Courtney Cox

The coolest and most down to earth ones were Tom Green, Violent J, Wes Borland, and David Arquette

One of the times I met Violent J was at an FYE at a local mall, he was with his family. I met Wes Borland at a Swans concert in Detroit

Wes Craven nodded and smiled at me, Ron Jeremy fist bumped me, Gallagher was high/drunk off his ass

Courtney Cox was thinner than I expected her to be. She did not seem very happy.

I've encountered Gallagher (might've been Gallagher 2) on the E3 show floor.

Never met a celebrity from the West. We don't get them much here in the Philippines. But a few years the Asia Pop Comic-Con brought a couple of celebs to our shores. Didn't get up close to greet them, but I saw:

Nathalie%20Emmanuel.jpg

Nathalie Emmanuel - Holy fuck she is so much more beautiful in real life. And actually quite fair skinned.

paulbettany.jpg

Paul Bettany - My friend posed in a photo with him. By all accounts a true gentleman and tall as hell.

gettyimages-1147915632.jpg

Nicholas Hoult - Extremely nice guy by what people have said.

That's the closest I've got to hobnobbing with celebs.

I walked in to a restaurant as Kevin Peter Hall (Predator) was walking out right after he got married. He was wearing a kippah for some reason.

I had dinner at the same table s this guy from Lean on Me... I think it was this guy but it was a long time ago and I barely remember... https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0408284/?ref_=ttfc_fc_cl_t50
I immediately asked him ask much money he got.. lol He said 5 grand.

I worked with this guy every day for 2 years...

I work with this guy right now...

Oh yea and I picked up money every day from Johnathan of "Who's The Boss" tv show. Danny Pintauro. He was the manager of a PF Changs. He quit when it came out hiv positive on Oprah.

I saw Ryan Gosling at a grocery store in Los Angeles once. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn't want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.

He said, "Oh, like you're doing now?"

I was taken aback, and all I could say was "Huh?" but he kept cutting me off and going "huh? huh? huh?" and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off.

When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.

The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like "Sir, you need to pay for those first." At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually "to prevent any electrical infetterence," and then turned around and winked at me. I don't even think that's a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

Joe Theismann lived down the road from me when I was growing up. He moved near us right around the time LT broke his ankle and ended his playing career. He loved my grandmother (who lived right next door to us) and every year until she passed he brought her a football signed by all the Redskins players for that year.

Oliver North was good friends with another neighbor and would hunt on our property occasionally.

Robert Duvall was friends with my other set of grandparents. I met him a couple of times when I was very young. My step-grandfather was a farrier and I believe he worked with Duvall's horses.

When I was in college, I worked at the college radio station and met a bunch of musicians and bands. The biggest were Tom Petty and Reba McEntire. Most were 90s alternative bands: Son Volt, Better Than Ezra, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, etc... Of the 90s alternative artists, the one that left the best impression was Poe. She was incredibly nice and after the on-air interview she ended up hanging out with a couple of us for hours just shooting the shit.

I've had dinner with Jackson Browne. Years ago I briefly dated a girl who worked for his girlfriend. We went to dinner at her house and he was there as well.

I met Bono at some function in DC I attended with another girl I was dating.

I dated another girl who grew up next to Robby Takac of the Goo Goo Dolls. I went with her to visit her parents near Christmas one year and we ran into him.

One of the best celeb run-ins doesn't involve me directly, but instead my dad and my grandmother:

I grew up right next door to my grandparent's farm and one day my dad was working in the yard and noticed this SUV slow down and stop to talk to my grandmother who was also working out in her yard. A couple of acres separated our houses so you could see what was going on, but couldn't see much detail

My grandmother talks to whoever is in the SUV for a few minutes and then it pulls into my grandmother's driveway so my dad figures he better walk across the field and see what was going on. He walks into her kitchen and there's Kevin Costner eating a ham sandwich. This was right around the time Dances with Wolves came out.

Turns out he was thinking about moving to the area and was out driving around looking for property, saw my grandmother in the yard, and stopped to ask her if she knew of any farms for sale. My grandmother did what she always did when people stopped at her house: offered food.

The best part of the story is that she had no clue who he was until after he left and my dad told her. She just thought he was a guy out looking for property and thought she'd be nice in case he bought near her and ended up being a neighbor.

Seeing Tony Hawk in 2001
Guest appearance of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar at a Henry Bibby summer basketball camp
Being taught how to play defense at that same camp by an 18 year old Amir Johnson, drafted by the Detroit Pistons that summer

I think my favorite is Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. He was very kind and surprisingly dunked the ball for us kids despite not being warmed up at all, wearing pants and a coat, and at the time he was 57 years old. That's what you get from the Captain, arguably the greatest basketball player to ever play the game. KAJ, Kobe, Jordan are all top 3

I golfed with Laurence Taylor once. I got the worlds most intense chipping lesson from him.

Also had dinner with my siblings and our spouses at a fancy steakhouse and Antonio Esfandiari came in and sat next to us. (Famous poker player.) Usually when we see celebrities we leave them alone, but since he is a "celebrity" we started talking to him and he kept the conversation flowing back and forth between tables. Awesome night, awesome guy. Just as personable as he seems on the poker table.

Those are the two that stand out, like I said I try not to make a big deal when I see them because they are just people trying to live.

Wow, what a dick.
