Beloved forum favourite Wreckfest gets surprise sequel announcement! (Surprise!)

Get ready for more mayhem!

Wreckfest 2 is coming to Xbox Series X|S, featuring a completely overhauled physics engine for even more realistic destruction, fully customizable cars that you can share with other players and revamped game modes including a brand-new split screen mode. Wishlist now!

Hopefully they work on the career mode or whatever it was called. Fucks sake did that become dull after 12hrs or so. It was just so repetitive and samey after awhile.

I thought it did a good job of touring the player through all the various game modes. I know some racing games really go a step above when it comes to the career mode but I thought Wreckfest's was fine. Most of my time was spent in one-off races tbh

Played it when it was one of the first games that PS plus put out on the PS5, I think I remember it being quite good. I'll keep an eye.

Bought the first one in its early access and will do the same with this one.

I hope mods will be easy to add, I used modded tracks and cars far more than the official content in the first one, there's some really fun tracks out there.

I hope crushing cars from up above actually has an affect this time round.
Booted up the first one, crushed this Volvo with a bus twice, that's with extreme damage on and despite his head going through the floor of his car, he still survived while it killed my bus.

Performance is much faster than I expected for an early access game - 4K, 2xMSAA ultra settings on a 4070ti Super is mostly at my 120fps frame cap. Ignoring sound bugs etc, performance does need a lot of smoothing out though as it's making even a 9800X3D microstutter. Game looks very nice as well and it's much more detailed.

I'm not feeling any overwhelming differences in the handling model from the first game albeit no ABS braking is a lot better, and the damage model is very close to BeamNG now, plus you don't seem to get those protruding spikes anymore.

This is new as well, you can get a slow puncture that eventually leads to the tyre rolling off the rim, I thought that was cool and uploaded a clip of it.

First content update!

We're bringing you gameplay upgrades like adjustable FOV, gamepad rumble, and DLSS & FSR support. Online play gets even better with friend invites, server search and sorting, plus a new player list HUD!

Two tracks join the chaos:

  • A brand-new Rallycross circuit set in Central Europe (1 route)
  • The return of Finncross – completely overhauled for tight-turn madness (2 routes)

And yes – new cars:

  • A slick Euro sports sedan
  • Rammer, the legendary American sedan car

  • 100%

Something feels off.

Frame rates are impressive, I'm playing at over 4k with DLAA getting around 100fps. But it doesn't feel smooth. Locking the fps doesn't help much, feels like the camera movement hitches or something. Will test a bit more to understand what's wrong. Vsync on or off didn't solve it.

I didn't have any issues with the smoothness when I tried it out last night but I have VRR. I did get microsttuter before the patch though. I'm glad they add DLAA, looks so much better than MSAA which still left jaggies everywhere.

I did wonder though if they've changed the mechanical damage model and car setups. The front wheel drive cars seemed to wheelspin a bit less while the rear wheel drive cars seem to kick out more easily, but maybe I'm just remembering things wrong from the last time I played. I use Savolax Sandpit reverse as a lap time tester and usually lap in the 1m:11s with all the cars except the Euro 1/Gizmo. Before patch 0.,2 I could only do 1:12 in the Euro 1/Gizmo because it had so much inside wheelspin. Last night on my first lap, notice it was hooking up better and ran a 1:11.6 straight away.

I was having some weird affects when playing online though, where quite often the whole car would randomly start crab walking to the right quite severely.

When I switched back to my normal display resolution of 3440x1440 and DLAA, the stutter went away. Rarely under 150fps and no hitches. Was only at 5k when fps were still high but there were camera hitches.

DLAA is so good though, at 3440x1440 the image is still crazy good.

I am not buying this until it's properly released. I remember buying the first one during EA and then it took them like half a fucking decade to complete the game.
