????

Time to weed out those with refined taste from those who have AARP cards around here 🧐

Everyone who votes for Citizen Kane will be rightfully perm'd 😡

I barely remember watching Citizen Kane and even I know it's the better film.

Detective Pikachu is cute but it's hardly masterpiece cinema.

Shit take

Art forms evolve over time otherwise the efforts are rendered fruitless and moot

Detective Pikachu is heartfelt, humorous, and charming

Citizen Kane is an overrated snoozefest given praise because the camera moves or some bullshit

Next caller please 😌

I would say Detective Pikachu is the better movie. I have seen bits of Citizen Kane and it just seems like an overhyped mockumentary to me.
Detective Pikachu on the other hand manages to make a new entry into a franchise without completely trashing the source material, so it is better in my eyes. Also the animation isn't too bad, so that is also a plus.

Detective Pikachu would have been better with A: Literally ANY other actor to play the main character than Justice Smith. I fucking hate that manlet.

B: More than like 8 Pokémon. Jesus that got so annoying seeing the same damn Pokémon over and over and over

Citizen Cane is a better movie, without a doubt, but I'd rather watch Detective Pikachu and that's saying something because I hate that Justice Smith kid. Is that his name? Who cares, fuck him.

Never understood this type of logic

A movie's sole purpose is to be watched, just like music is to be listened to, birds are to fly, and fish are to swim.

Citizen Cane is a one and done kind of movie for me. It's excellent, but I'm not going to rewatch it like I would other movies. Detective Pikachu was decent, but it would hold up to multiple viewings better for me.

The Pianist is better than Shrek, but I'm not going to watch it on repeat. That wouldn't be good for someone's mental health.

I hear what you are saying and through some lenses that is correct.

BUT when you look at it like fine art, simply being pretty to look at is not what makes it good art (or even required). Its a defined craft with established parameters and values that are indexed on when evaluating.

The question on what "is better" should be fairly objective
But the question of what "do you think is better" can be totally subjective.

To the OP... they were both ok. CK was hyped up so much that it was a let down and I thought DP was going to be trash and was pleasantly surprised.

Then you should have named the poll "Which movie would you want to watch."

Citizen Kane is, by virtually every metric, a better film. But from an entertainment standpoint, one may want to watch Pikachu more than once.

I wouldn't watch either movie, to be honest. Not a fan of Pokemon or black-and-white movies.

You do watch lot of B&W Japanese films though.

Anyway...Citizen Kane ..kind of changed the lexicon of cinema so I voted for that, however at the same time, it's a film of its period. Whenever anything effectively creates a paradigm shift in a medium, it always comes off feeling somewhat antiquated down the road. Half-life is a great example of that. At launch it was absolutely mind-blowing, however for anyone whose grown up on games since, it can feel quite retrograde.
