Platforms
  1. PC
  2. Xbox
  3. PlayStation
  4. Nintendo
I think I will have to give the crown to 360:

Amped 3
Call of Duty 2
Condemned: Criminal Origins
Every Party
FIFA 06: Road to FIFA World Cup
Gun
Kameo: Elements of Power
Madden NFL 06
NBA 2K6
NBA Live 06
Need for Speed: Most Wanted
NHL 2K6
Perfect Dark Zero
Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie
Project Gotham Racing 3
Quake 4 + a phenomenal port of Quake 2
Ridge Racer 6
Tetris: The Grandmaster ACE
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06
Tony Hawk's American Wasteland

The only thing this list is lacking was a good RPG, but Oblivion wasn't too far away. Played the hell out of Call of Duty 2 and Perfect Darks multi

SNES. Only 5 games but they were all good.
  • Super Mario World
  • F-Zero
  • Pilotwings
  • SimCity
  • Gradius III
In reality, the system with the best launch lineup was the Xbox Series X, because it launched with backwards compatibility with Xbox, 360 and X1, so there were hundreds of classics at launch.

Reactions: Bullet Club
Nintendo Wii.

Sports was a genuine cultural phenomenon and sold the console for 18 straight months.

Twilight Princess had its flaws for sure, but as an "outsider" to the Zelda franchise I loved it for its semi-open gameplay and arrow aiming. That simple mechanic of aiming your bow was so neat to me at the time.

Excite Truck was (and still is) better than it should've been.

The only people who knew Trauma Center was good were the DS nerds, but this was a great launch title that flew under the radar for awhile and is still kinda niche.

And Red Steel... people judged it as not-the-revolution-of-fps-it-promised-to-be... to be honest it got Killzone'd where people held impossible expectations over an above-average launch game. The premise was cool, the graphics were surprisingly good from the 2nd stage onward, and the motion controls worked decently.

Just going back in my memory, it's hard to beat the N64 launch. Even going to a friend's house for a sleepover, having 4 people with 4 controllers playing Wayne Gretzky's hockey was amazing at the time. But Mario 64, Pilot Wings, Wave Race...it was an awesome launch if you were a young teenager at the time and had experienced the 2D-3D transition.

Nostalgia hits hard but the ps2 launch was magical for me personally:

Armored Core 2 (Agetec, Action)
DOA2: Hardcore (Tecmo, Fighting)
Dynasty Warriors 2 (Koei, Action)
ESPN International Track and Field (Konami, Sports)
ESPN X-Games Snowboarding (Konami, Sports)
Eternal Ring (Agetec, RPG)
Evergrace (Agetec, RPG)
FantaVision (SCEI, Puzzle)
Gun Griffon Blaze (Working Designs, Action)
Kessen (EA, Adventure)
Madden NFL 2001 (EA, Sports)
Midnight Club (Rockstar, Racing)
Moto GP (Namco, Racing)
NHL 2001 (EA, Sports)
Orphen (Activision, RPG)
Q-Ball Billiards Master (Take-Two Interactive, Simulation)
Ready 2 Rumble Boxing: Round 2 (Midway, Sports)
Ridge Racer V (Namco, Racing)
Silent Scope (Konami, Shooter)
Smuggler's Run (Rockstar, Racing-Adventure)
SSX (EA, Sports)
Street Fighter EX3 (Capcom, Fighting)
Summoner (THQ, RPG)
Swing Away (Paradise Golf in Japan) (EA, Sports)
Tekken Tag Tournament (Namco, fighting)
TimeSplitters (Eidos, First-Person Shooter)
Unreal Tournament (Infogrames, First-Person Shooter)
Wild Wild Racing (Interplay, Racing)
X-Squad (EA, Action)

An awesome game. Great simplistic design principles and mechanics. I had an absolute blast with it. They went way too far with the sequel and ripped all the fun out of it.

Yeah, I had a great time with this too. It did look absolutely horrendous in places, but a huge step above GameCube in others. Super inconsistent, but not a shock for a launch title.

Destructible environments were a surprise. There are a ton of really fun levels and despite the OTT silly story, it was a fun ride. The controls were also fine once you worked out how the sword fighting worked. I loved this game despite its flaws.

GameCube probably gets my vote for best launch lineup and fondest memories.

Luigi's Mansion
WaveRace: Blue Storm
Super Monkey Ball
Star Wars: Rogue Leader

You've got four of the best games on the system right there on day 1, and Smash Bros. Melee launched a few weeks later.

I was still in high school but I saved up £300 in the months prior to launch from a paper round and washing neighbours' cars, and walked out EB at midnight with the system, the four games above, Dave Mirra's BMX2 (which was also fucking great) and a memory card. Best £300 I've ever spent on this hobby.

For me its the Dreamcast

Sonic Adventure
House of the Dead 2
Airforce Delta
NFL 2k
Power Stone
Ready 2 Rumble Boxing
SOULCALIBUR
Tokyo Extreme Racer

With these coming before the end of 1999 (Thats a three month window for the slow)
Sega Bass Fishing
Marvel Vs Capcom
Virtua Fighter 3tb
Sega Rally Championship 2
NBA 2k
Vigilante 8: Second Offense
Worms Armageddon

Then in the next 3 months we got
Crazy Taxi
Virtua Striker 2
Swords of the Berserk
Legacy of Cain: Soul Reaver
RE: Code Veronica
Rayman 2: The Great Escape
Dead or Alive 2
ChuChu Rocket!
MDK2

That is an AMAZING set of games to have access to in the launch "window" of a console. Honestly IMO the DC had the best library of ANY console when adjusted for how short its life was. AND it played emulators, had a web browser and played VCD movies... It was simply too good for this world.
