Who will buy Ubisoft?

You might criticize an occasional Nintendo game, but you give them the benefit of a doubt. Not with Ubisoft. Concept of being proud of never playing Ubisoft games (like you see in this thread) doesn't exist with Nintendo games either.

Btw I never said Shadows will be great. Just said to wait and see.

I don't give Nintendo benefit of the doubt and the main reason I didn't pick up M&L was they have been bad for over 10 years. Same with Zelda games until BotW. Same with Kirby until Forgotten Land. There's tons of franchises they've let become mediocre and I won't buy the games unless the reception from gamers (not journalists) is overwhelmingly positive.

And even if I did, you give Ubisoft benefit of the doubt, otherwise you wouldn't be constantly propping up a company that has been churning out horrible product since the start of the decade and now they are on the verge of bankruptcy. Difference is Nintendo aren't going out of business and Ubisoft are. I think giving benefit of the doubt to the company that isn't bankrupt is more logical.

The series was always gay. It's Sneak King on steroids

Assassin's Creed 2 was kind of decent and showed some potential for what the series could be, but before Ubisoft was a massively woke company, they were a company that consistently made games riddled with bugs. The first Assassin's Creed was pretty much unplayable.

Not only that. Is was boring as fuck too. Was so hyped for it back when it came out on PS3 but after like 2 hours of doing the same shit over and over again I put it aside.
AC2 was way better and I finished it. But after that I was done with the franchise and never revisited it.

Pretty much everything you said is wrong. Last gen AC games would require downgrades even for Switch 2. That's not why people play it. The premiere digital tourism game should always look the best and be played on a big tv.

Of course if Ubisoft games were Nintendo owned you'll see the benefit of D-pad and le hardcore gamer audience turning around to suddenly worship them, but wouldn't help sales. Nintendo probably never did a game on the budget and scale of AC, never had a studio as big as Ubisoft Montreal. They wouldn't know what to do with it.

Wasn't BoTW and ToTK large budget ? I can understand Nintendo doing this occasionally but not as much as Ubisoft.

I like the Rabbid and Mario game and star fox in Starlink. Sell them to Nintendo.

I may get the new PoP game too. While not the best third party support for the switch they have done some really nice games for it. Unlike EA.

But yeah. I swear Ubi spend to much time and money in games to ever make the money back.

I do like Ubisoft as they will work with whoever they please but they been driving their own budgets and dev times higher and higher. Turning from a games studio to an even studio. It can't just be a game it has to be an event designed to wring as much money and time out of the payer. Games need to be fun

They seem to have forgotten this and lost their way.

Episode 2 Whatever GIF

Ubisoft is FUCKED. From 12 billion in 2021 to less than 2 billion 4 years later

I guess that makes sense. The last decent games they put out (in my book) were Assassin's Creed Valhalla and Immortals Fenyx Rising. Both were late 2020 releases.

While it won't likely happen, I think Nintendo should buy them out. Rayman, Assassins Creed and the Rabbids franchises have done decently well on Nintendo consoles and their other games could be a nice fit as well. Even just fixing the graphics on Star Wars Outlaws models could make for a decent game.

with MS current trajectory id expect them to step in...Ubi is a French company so it will be interesting in terms of regulators this time around as the orange man is back in office and the UK threw out their crap government and rewrote a heap of their laws around competition

the other companies i just dont see stumping up the amount of money required for a company that is bleeding so much red

I don't see Nintendo buying a huge French company (let alone a huge American company) over a Japanese company. That's my opinion.

And Sony has already went through with a lot of trouble with Bungie after they bought them. Same with Microsoft & Activision Blizzard.

The realistic choice for Ubisoft would be Tencent.

Can't imagine MS stepping up. Their recent purchases were expensive and their own ecosystem doesn't sell enough games to make the money back, so they're forced to release their games on the competitors consoles. Activision Blizzard was a huge investment, I don't see them buying Ubi now as well.

In a perfect world. Ubi would go bust and be forced to sell off IPs and Licenses. Would love to see Activision get the Tom Clancy license for some "complementary" warfare series to COD. Nintendo to get Ray-man, Sony takes Prince of Persia, EA takes Just Dance & Driver, Take 2 gets Far Cry.

In a perfect world Ubisoft gets their shit together. None of these publishers would know what to do with those IPs.

The brutal reality, as outlined in the report, is that Ubisoft's net bookings have plummeted by 51.8% year-over-year in Q3, with total net bookings for the first nine months of FY25 falling 34.8% to just €944 million. Digital net bookings dropped 33.8%, while player recurring investment (PRI)—a key metric for live-service games—fell 33.7%, indicating a significant decline in microtransactions, DLC purchases, and subscriptions. This means that Ubisoft is not only struggling to sell games but is also failing to retain players and monetize its existing catalog. That's a major red flag for the company's long-term sustainability.

Beyond these sales declines, Ubisoft is also drowning in debt, with its total debt-to-EBITDA ratio sitting at a disastrous -21.1x. For context, a negative EBITDA means Ubisoft is losing money even before accounting for interest, taxes, and other expenses—a catastrophic indicator of financial health. The fact that this ratio has skyrocketed to this level suggests Ubisoft has little to no profitability and is taking on more debt than it can ever hope to pay back. This aligns with our previous reports warning that the company is teetering on the edge of financial collapse.

That's a small price to pay for boldly putting an unattractive female lead in a Star Wars game... right?

Lolwat? Warner Bros is on the verge of shutting down their gaming division.

WB is desperately clinging to it's gaming division. I see a scenario where they buy Ubisoft in an attempt to turn themselves around.

I don't see where they'd get all the billions from to buy Ubi while they're struggling themselves.

They've lost about 300 million trying to create a gaming franchise and yet are doubling down, saying they are gonna focus on core franchises like their Batman & Hogwarts Legacy series.

Desperation is one helluva drug.

If Nintendo isn't a potential suitor, then I don't have any interest in anyone else buying Ubisoft. It will probably happen, and it will probably be the continuation of their downfall. They frankly don't make any games I even like, so it's a pretty big nothing burger to me. Still, I would like to see more Rayman and feel like Ubisoft IPs would really thrive under Nintendo's brand. Even Assassin's Creed could really turn a new leaf and become a worthwhile IP once again.

Ubisoft might be best served to bide their time, focus on the games they have in the pipeline for Switch 2, and lower their budgets.

Ubisoft should get their shit together. Nobody does Ubisoft games better than Ubisoft. Selling to Nintendo is a horrible idea. They have no audience for AC or Tom Clancy games or others and we're still years away until Nintendo does PC ports so they'll lock Ubi games up on their outdated hardware.

If Ubisoft became a second party exclusive to Nintendo, they'd get a lot of loyal fans pretty quickly. They'd also have Nintendo push their game franchises in the right direction, which is something that no other gaming corporation is willing to do these days. Ubisoft has tried being on PC, PS5 and XSX/S and they are going bankrupt. They need to change direction or they will cease to exist.
