This is quite possibly 'the' greatest live-action version of a beloved anime ever made - with special care taken to ensure an enjoyable experience with both it's English dub & the original Japanese language track.
It was made for the fans, by the fans of the Leiji Matsumoto anime & manga - and they spared no expense.
It captures all of the important story beats...admittedly cutting a few things to fit into it's run time - but they are easily understandable when seen in context
Here's the trailer:
Japanese Trailer:
For reference, the OG anime opening titles:
When I was a child, one of the few things that I had to hold dear to me were legendary heroes - and anime incorporated a large part of that; due to no shortage of such things available on TV. After seeing the Star Wars films on HBO, a cartoon about a brave group of heroes adventuring across the galaxy to save all of mankind; by undertaking a quest to Iskandar to retrieve the "Cosmo DNA" seemed like the natural next phase; even though I didn't understand why it wasn't the same thing at the time.
This movie is literally the Japanese version of 1998's "Armageddon" - even though the original manga & anime were released in 1974.
It is definitely worth your time

If you can rent it, do it.
If rental isn't available, here is the link on Amazon to buy it if you feel so inclined:
