Thread: The Game Awards 2023 Livestream
Game Of The Year
Very much agree. I think that's one of the reasons why gamez jurnalitz attack titles like Atlus' Persona series for their anime aesthetic. These woke idiots don't like the anime style despite the fact that I think it suits the videogame medium more.

Even Japanese titles like Yakuza/Like a Dragon which at times dabble in 'cinematic gaming' don't forget they are goofy ass videogames at heart.

It's not so much video games being goofy assed, it's more that gaming as a creative medium when it excels allows you as the player to dictate your own story within the frame of the experience, which is its unique strength versus Books, TV, or Film. All to often it seems the TGAs are all about elevating linear cinematic experiences over truly creative endeavors that push that envelope a lot of the time. I'm not discounting that they can't be fun (I had a good time with Jedi Survivor) I just don't think they should be placed on a pedestal, in large part because all too often the focus is on how good they look and that for me is a huge mistake, because visual fidelity is something that always increases over time.

Giving "best game direction" to Alan Wake 2 is the best example of this for me.

Especially when it has already won "best narrative".

Been skimming through the video.

Exodus looks good.
Senua looks ok.
DBZ Sparking Zero looks ok.
Visions of Mana looks good.
Jurassic Park Survival might be something if it has good parkour in it.
Ready or Not looks very interesting.
Lost Records I'll keep my eye on. It's probably filled with woke stuff, but DontNod has great stories in general.
Skull & Bones is finally coming. Good, for everyone that's interested.
Blade is unexpected. Can't say I really care though.
Last Sentinel is meh.
The First Descendent might be worth keeping an eye on.

The rest was not worth mentioning. Baldur's Gate 3 is really loved. I might have to play it.

What did you think of the OD reveal?

The facial animations were awesome. The scream of the girl was a little off though, eyebrows should've gone up higher. It looked like only the bottom part of her face screamed, so to speak. To be honest, I didn't listen to the talk afterwards. So I thought, cool tech, and that's it.

The problem with spiderman 2 was it was a literal reach around by Geoff to keep on the good side of sony and this is the third time that this has happend (HZD/Ratchet and Clank)

the gaming community saw through the bullshit and saw a pretty good game but it didn't really innovate from part one and had an absolute crapload of glitches which somehow managed to not get a mention in any of the reviews which placed them in the 90+% Metacritic so there is some fuckery going on there

i know SIE has shares in Ziff media which owns IGN and other gaming media companies but i would not be surprised if some of the review sites were tightly controlled/leveraged
i did notice about day 5 after the reviews started to drop a few of the more honest review sites started to call out the game for what it is and voted it lower bringing it below 90 but like a magic fairy another review site appeared and gave it a glowing review to keep it above 90.

Dont get me wrong..i enjoyed spiderman2 but it isn't a game you would remember 5-10 years from now

I will remember it for having the first side quest to raise awareness for deaf people where you actually play a deaf person of color. Very important for the medium as a whole.

Thoughts on the show:
Interrupting and rushing the Baldurs Gate 3 devs when they were dedicating their game and achievement to deceased team members should kill any credibility that the Video Game Awards have. Absolutely vile.

Visions of Mana - A new mainline Mana game that looks like Trials of Mana on steroids and a higher budger (besides currently unknown party composition?) Actually thought it was Dragon Quest XII for a few wild seconds. I'll still take this though. Game of the show for me though Metaphor: ReFantazio is very close and Exodus, No Rest for the Wicked and Monster Hunter Wilds are definitely very exciting in their promise.

Metaphor: ReFantazio
Looks amazing. Could be amazing. Question is, will it be amazing?

Speaking of:
Monster Hunter Wilds looks great from what little was shown, and the new possibilities of bringing two weapons on a hunt. 2025 release sucks, but on the brightside I should hopefully have a new gaming PC by then.

Exodus
Mass Effect with a little Returnal/Destiny? Actually looks like something that could be good. Fingers crossed.

No Rest for the Wicked
Reminds me of a Dragon Age Origins/Witche cross. Fingers crossed its good.

The First Descendent
Sick Graphics and Action, need to know more though.
Black Myth Wukong
Ditto.

Blade
Eh, unless its a surprise quality game like Guardians of the Galaxy was I am not really expecting much.

DBZ Sparking Zero
Should have made Budokai Tenkaichi 4 a long time ago though better later then never. I'll be happy though if we also get a improved Dragonball Xenoverse 3, or One Piece/Bleach/Naurto takes on Xenoverse which is a very cool and affordable? half way between vast majority of standard generic anime fighters and tie ins and an actual quality RPG.

Jurassic Park Survival
Looked promising until protagonist literally replayed scenes form the movie. Hard pass unless amazing reviews and DPad recommendations.

Skull and Bones
Should have had multiple spinoffs and new games using Assassins Creed 3/Blackflag/Rogues ship mechanics. Ubisoft could have had its own Pirates of the Caribbean fantasy like RPG by now. Would have liked a Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker like game, Wind Waker remake and Wind Waker 2 using them, that and a Legend of Black Kat remake using them. As for Skull and Bones I really do hope it has a good single player mode, if not its a pass.
