Btw how the absolute fuck has Sam Allardyce managed to find work? That's about as stupid as when Newcastle hired Joe Fucking Kinnear when he'd basically retired. Some batshit boards this season though I think Chelsea is the ultimate clusterfuck. Firing Tuchel who had done a decent job, hiring Potter who is a good manager but needed more time, and then throwing a bunch of players at him that he probably neither wanted nor knew what to do with. And then hiring Lampard. Oh and the spurs situation.. what a shambles. Fuck me what a shambles. Considering football is an industry with huge sums of money thrown around it seems to be run by absolute fucking amateurs.

On Chelsea - Potter had broadly the right idea but his Brighton problems followed him - great xG but no goals. De Zerbi fixed that at Brighton building on the base that Potter had built. However, what Potter had at Brighton wasn't just him and his tactics, it was a whole structure finding the right players for the right job with a very specific plan, the very definition of a well-run club. Chelsea spunked money up the wall and prayed. It's not worked at all, and it's fucking hilarious.

I don't understand the flak Big Sam gets. Granted, given the scandal he was part of he likely shouldn't be working. However, he isn't some dinosaur, the man was a pioneer in using data in football before it was mainstream and he pushed many average sides above where they should be. His Bolton team was genuinely exciting and had some unbelievable talent.

It's a punt from Leeds, but should it work out it'll be an incredibly smart bit of business by their board. That 3m bonus will be peanuts compared to what they earn from staying in the division.

Leeds have been a fucking shambles since the world cup finished. I was quite fond of Marsch and thought he did a fairly good job bringing some good young talent in. Kristiansen, Sinisterra, Gnonto, and Aaronson were all fantastic signings who've performed well, even if the rest have been very underwhelming. We played some fantastic football under him with this new-look team and outclassed some of the big teams in the first half of the season. The big issue was consistency. We only performed for 45 minutes and would always lose or draw based on the weak performance in the other half. We have a lot of deadwood in the club that need moving on ASAP like Junior Firpo and Adam Forshaw. These guys are not even Championship level any more, let alone Premier League players.

Firing Marsch was stupid considering there was no replacement plan. Gracia has been a complete disaster. We're not even performing well now or playing anything close to good football and the defence is a mess. I cannot believe he has been given this long when things clearly aren't working. I'm 99% sure we're going down, but if there is anyone in the world who can steal a few points in our final 4 games, it's Sam Allardyce. I'm perfectly fine with this appointment, especially as we were basically guaranteed relegation under Gracia. It's a roll of the Dyce, so we might get lucky. Need to get our house in order sharply if we do end up staying up.

I'm with you on Marsch - firing him wasn't wise, though I'd say the problem goes back further to not doing more to keep Biesla and back him with what he needed. When changing managers you have to ask whether you can get a better manager or not. It may be that the current manager has reached the end of the line at that particular club for various reasons - the end of a playing cycle and lacking the energy to rebuild (as may be the case soon with Klopp), issues between board and manager, the manager losing the players support, whatever it might be. But you have to have a fucking plan. That they've gone to Allardyce with 4 games to go isn't a plan, it's desperate and given the remaining games I don't fancy his chances of working a miracle tbh.

But back to manager replacements - Brighton lost Potter to Chelsea and fairly quickly got De Zerbi in, and showed patience through some early rough results and it's looking pretty good. They had a plan, a manager they wanted, a goal for him to achieve, and they got it done. Consider they also lost most of the backroom staff, a while back lost Dan Ashworth to Newcastle, endless player departures, but they're still fighting for Europe, it shows the power of careful planning including succession planning.

Not quite sure why De Zerbi keeps picking Steele over Sanchez - he's terrible. Everton had 5 shots on target and scored 5 goals. That can only ever be an absolute goalkeeper calamity.

I'll add that starting with Undav who has the touch of a rapist (I was genuinely shocked when he scored against Wolves) and Welbeck who has never been prolific, with an 18 year old Argentinian who will be brilliant but isn't ready yet (Buonanotte - get him in with more support ffs) wasn't too bright either - 5 on target out of 23 vs Everton with 5 from 10.

We've done brilliantly this year but honestly De Zerbi messed up today.

I love that we can do shit like that now. It's a far cry from the last day of the season in league 2 with either us or Hereford going to the conference.

For those of a certain age this is a fascinating insight into just how much Alex Ferguson loved King Eric, who for me was an amazing player to watch. Eric Cantona was just incredible - his arrogance, his ability to find space where none existed, and his desire to play football in a beautiful way, I was lucky to be around to see him at his best.

What a beautiful few years it was as a United fan. Though I was truly too young to appreciate the King, even rewatching old games brings such a warmth and happiness.

There are some fascinating stories about how Sir Alex handled interactions with Cantona too. A true man manager.

I'm a Brighton fan, so no love for Man United, but some players you just love no matter who they play for. Zola, Le Tissier, Kinkladze, Juninho and Cantona back in the day, or Saint-Maximin and Gabriel Jesus today, some players are just a joy to watch.

Absolutely, as a United fan it pains me to say that the best player I've ever seen is Thierry Henry but sometimes you have to put aside rivalry and just appreciate world class footballers.

There was just something special about Cantona in a way that you can't quantify in stats and honestly I'm struggling to put it into words even now. He might not have been the best player of his generation (although he was ridiculously talented) or the best United player I've seen but he has this charisma that makes him shine like no other and that's why he still has a godlike status among fans and is still sung about. I was a kid when he was playing and to me he was just the coolest person on the planet.

This bit from Looking For Eric really sums up the connection he has with the fans and what football can mean to people.

It's a pity he wasn't around for the treble season, particularly winning the Champions League. But there's something about him stepping away on his own terms that's a more fitting ending for Cantona's career than lifting any trophy ever could have been.

I've always really liked that letter from Ferguson too. It showed the connection he had with Cantona and what an incredible man manager he was. So often the image of Ferguson is of him shouting and screaming, and clearly that was present but there was a warmth there as well that developed this deep bond with his players. There is something incredibly charming about one titan of the game writing to another about popping round for a cup of tea.

Cantona is the GOAT. Pains me to say it as a Leeds fan, but there has never been anyone better. United were something special in the 90s. That kind of magic will never be replicated.

Looking for Eric is a great film.

So we beat the team in 2nd, drew against 1st, lost quite badly to 3rd and beat 4th too in the last couple of months. Not a bad record. From where we were it's honestly astonishing, and it still feels weird to have people actually know we exist now.

£30m for Maguire is a great deal for West Ham. I think the move is perfect for him. I don't understand the sentiment amongst some of my fellow United supporters that he's washed or a bad footballer, he will excel in that West Ham side.

Winning the community shield against City had a different taste. We failed to beat them in the last 5 games and now we did

I'm looking forward to our season. I have high hopes that we're going to do something even in the champions league. COYG!

Solid display from the lads tonight warming up for a tough season. Sad to see king kev off early can see us push for paqueta even harder now.

Glad we pulled off a win today. Today Arteta was weird with his selection and tactics

Sometimes I can't fucking understand what he's trying to achieve
