Thread: The Emulation Thread
No its just the PS2 version running through PCSX2.

I am having some annoying issues...

I am getting stutters, like the game is loading and I get a few stutters here and there that can be game breaking:

It doesn't happen often, and I know that my rig is strong enough to run the emulator.

I never managed to run PCSX2 well. It's just too much trouble. Try Trilogy HD on PS3 emulator.

Was playing syphon filter 2 as I want to complete the entire series. Feels way better than the first, mission wise.

But I also wanted to play Jak & Daxter for a long time. But damn it looks blurry, even with all graphics maxed and even with upscaling. Everything looks so blurry.

Man, you should see it running on an actual PS2 lol. It took some real time for my eyes to adjust. I ended up moving on to Jak 2.

I had a PS2 with the game back then but I got a pretty tiny TV back then.
Also didn't really play on console in general so kinds tossed two hours into it lol.

I just expected way better upgrades visually as PS1 games upscaled do look way better than the original state, where the graphical updates for PS2 games are diminishing fast.

Yeah there is just something odd about how Jak 1 looks for sure IMO. Then Jak 2 has progressive scan and looks way better. But Jak 1 is always such a favorite.

PCSX2 went through a massive overhaul a couple years ago, you should check out. Weird options like the "emulation speed" slider is no more.

I'm trying it every 5 years or so (on a new PC every time) and I always get this bug when after 15 minutes of normal play it suddenly goes into slow-mo.

For the longest time Konami ZR107 emulation did NOT work in MAME; mostly due to issues with analog controls....but MAME .274 is out and it brings a ton of improvements to some of the best arcade games and most obscure arcade games around! Like the Konami M2 / 3DO M2, Splatterhouse, Konami arcade racing titles such as Winding Heat, Midnight Run 2 and Jet Wave...and more!

If you know me or the channel you know I am a huge proponent of both video game history and video game preservation...so when an arcade board that uses custom 3D hardware vs just a console in a box or a PC gaming experience in a box...I want everyone to be able to play them! And lucky for retrogaming enthusiasts MAME updates are here!

I know the two systems are different, but wow what a difference between Xenia emulation and PS3. You have to merge products keys and all sort of stuff on RPCS to make it work, Xenia is just boot up your ISO and you're good to go

Ok so now I went from just having fun in RPCS3 to take the jump and hack my PS3.

It is capable of CFW, but I am a little afraid to brick it so I am using HEN instead.

As time goes by I spend more tind tinkering and get games and systems up and running than actually playing the games its terrible lol.

I don't know if I should invest more in PS3 or Xbox 360.

Xenia is more simple and runs much better, but rpcs3 supports like 98 percent of all PS3 games, and can easily run on native hardware.

PS3 has a better library of exclusives IMO and probably more community interest/support in the long run. Since a good majority of 360 games already have native PC versions

RPCS3 also has RPCN which I haven't actually sat down to try yet but it sounds fucking sweet and it just got a big upate the other day.

I am going to get all the exclusives from both platforms, it is more like "console exclusives" that never came to PC like Army of Two etc.

Xenia runs very well on my PC, but RPCS3 is very CPU heavy and I have an older CPU so I am stuck on compiling shaders, making Killzone 3 unplayable for my PC, so I play it on my modded PS3.

Is Xenia easy to setup? Never tried it.

Install Xenia Manager, download Xenia through it, set up resolution etc, launch game.

No need to decrypt or anything.

This. I downloaded Xenia Manager a couple days ago and it was one click and all just worked. Downloaded a rom and was off to the races. Less than five minutes all told.

There is a reason the PS3 was infamous for being garbage to develop for, because of the modifications they did before launch because they feared the Xbox 360 was faster GPU wise.

You can see this video:

Funny thing is, Sony said that PS3 emulation is impossible, yet some hobbyists on PC has made the impossible.

The true reason is probably, that Sony rather want to remaster the games and make people pay to play them again.

So I installed ShadPS4 because I saw it worked with Bloodborne and wanted to give it a try myself...

With Killzone Shadowfall, only to see it didnt work.

My own fault for not checking the compatibility list I guess

A year ago you would be seen as a lunatic trying to play a commercial game through a ps4 emulator, a system that's still very recent tech wise despite the 10 year age. Just months ago ShadPS4 wasn't even the best PS4 emulator, all things PS4 emulation was still in its infancy. A breakthrough happened and in mere months and through sheer will, Bloodborne is mostly playable today, this speed is unheard of when it comes to Playstation emulation.

This is to say, and I don't mean it in an antagonistic way, but you gotta keep your expectations in check when it comes to these things. Despite the advanvements of ShadPS4 it's still early days, believe it or not, and it's remarkable it even progressed this much in such little time. I'd give it a few more years for the emulator to get to the level of something like RPCS3 for example.

These things take time. PCSX2 is more than 20 years old and only a couple years ago it stopped being a broken mess that barely worked with the Qt overhaul. RPCS3 still has bad reputation generally because it was slow for so many years that people don't realize how better its gotten now. Proper PS4 emulation should theoritically develop faster than these two, but not to the point that you can play different AAA games this early on.

Bro it wasn't a complain I know how this works.

I just thought it could run killzone because it could run Bloodborne.

Other people that are collecting retros....

Do you keep everything in the thought of preservation, or do you delete trash you have no intention to play?

I felt like I had lots of room with PS1 and PS2, but generations after that seems to get a little expensive storage wise lol.

I keep what I actually care to play. My collection is constrained by my shelf space.

Sounds like you're referring to emulators though. Even in that case, I keep a trim list of games on my various emu boxes (like the Mister or the handheld Anbernics) because the quality of life in searching for games is superior to having literally everything. I have a hard drive with "all of it" but I only upload a small portion to my machines.

Hardware I collect but software I just use FPGA cartridges and hardware mods. Game collecting has gotten stupid expensive for most consoles

Why would Nintendo give a shit about people running hombrew on the Wii. The console is nearing 20 years old.

Because Nintendo is getting deeper into the business of selling you a subscription to stream old games. Wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Wii and DS show up on the SW2 using the mouse controls

Stopping emulation on the Wii won't do shit. People will just emulate on their PC. Even lower end PCs of today can do a pretty good job emulating many consoles.

Nintendo can't stop what is already on the internet. You'll always be able to find a rom site and any emulator/homebrew software you want.

I hadn't thought about Wii on switch 2. But would make sense. Switch 2 can definitely emulate Wii games. Wii is basically GameCube pro!

Didn't say anything about stoping Wii emulation. Just that Wii The Homebrew Channel is likely dead due to fact they used Nintendo's code.

These things never kill anything - really - they will just make a new homebrew channel with other name - Nintendo killed Yuzu and Ryujinx and now there are several other Switch emulators lol

What are these other Switch emulators? Are they any good?

I'm releasing the first beta of my new Killer Instinct 1/2 emulator to my Patreon supporters next week! This video walks through some of the features which might not otherwise be covered by BigPEmu documentation. This includes silky smooth multiplayer with up to 16-frame rollback and a new stereo sound script. (KI 1/2 normally only support monophonic sound)
