"Here's that delicious chocolate cake you were craving. Oh, by the way, do note that it's made of human shit."

I imagine that's what a lot of people are thinking. I'm still optimistic I'll like it because Souls does need to evolve anyhow. We can't keep playing the same thing for the next 10 years.

I understand they need to evolve but this just seems like a really poorly thought out idea.

The Bloodborne combat was never really iterated upon as they went for Sekiro and then Elden Ring next so I would have said the more sensible option would be to have this as Bloodborne 2 in all but name with the combat being more in that style.

The fact that this will be multiplayer first and foremost is a massive red flag to me.

There are so many other ways for Souls to evolve and this is like choosing the least interesting and probably the idea that has been shown most likely to fail based on what other devs have been trying and failing to do.

Nightreign is due to come out on May 30th and if it is received poorly then I don't know how this will go.

What? Dual wielding whips in ER is amazing

The magma whip has an amazing ash of war of crowd control
Well, DPS is not great because move set/animation is relatively slow, stance damage is some of worst in the game and they can't do critical hits even if you manage to break stance (deal breaker for me). All their good ashes of war can be had on other weapons, if I recall. Pretty much everything they do can be done better by something else, in my opinion. I mean, if they're fun, then it doesn't really matter. I don't always use the absolute best possible weapon when I play either. If FS did a Castlevania, though, I'd like to see better motion values, a cool critical hit and some unique ashes of war.

Bruh I main heavy axes and swords

dont talk to me about slow lmfao

Nah the Red Braid and Magma whips Ashes are exclusive, and also the best you get with whips imo.

Well theyd have to bc the whip is like, the whole identity of a Belmont unless we're doing another Alucard run.

Looks good but if you don't want to sell me the game I'm not going to go out of my way to buy it (same with GTA 6).

Elden Ring has massive sales success in part due to being available to so many people. I doubt the Switch market that plays kids games, but also likes adult games is particularly big.

Timed exclusive for sure. Good if you were already planning to get a Switch to help justify the cost, but feels like a move somewhat anchored in the past. Might be my PC privilege, we're we get 95% of all games, playing a role lol.

Totally agree that it should be multi unless Nintendo is funding it, hard to argue for multi plat on a game that wouldn't exist without them.

Only argument could make in that case is it's taking resources away from whatever next multi plat game they are planning on making

Yeah it's hard to imagine Nintendo is paying enough that would ever cover the missed opportunity cost (sales to a much bigger audience). That's why I suspect it's timed exclusivity.

I can't think of many third party exclusive games where the developers have not regretted such deals in hindsight. Perhaps Spiderman springs to mind as an example that worked, but that's because exclusivity guaranteed to Spiderman IP, and so wouldn't of been a game at all without it. Street Fighter 5, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Final Fantasy 16, Deadly Premonition 2 etc were largely unsatisfactory from a sales point of view during the exclusivity period.

Agreed, although Nintendo has done so with Bayonetta 3, but that actually may strengthen your point where I don't think that relationship helped Nintendo at all.

We will see during these developer diaries, if they use strong exclusive language or something more iffy

The Nintendo exclusivity thing is encouraging to me. I don't think Nintendo would money hat a primarily or even heavily multiplayer game. I am hoping it's equally strong in single player. We'll see.
