Thread: SUMMER GAME FEST 2024 Stream 7th June 2024 2p PT/5p ET/10p BST/11p CEST
I agree ^^

No quarrel with the format of the show. A barrage of content with minimal downtime. Yes, some awkward devs on stage and Dorito Pope doing what Dorito Pope does.
I just found the content mostly uninspiring - or at least the way the trailers were put together to be uninspiring.
We had a generation where everything was brown. This generation its all about feelings and playing as an autistic loser in one of a multitude of Wes Anderson's rejected ideas. Which is fine. I'll vote with my wallet as always.

I've not scored it on a spreadsheet or anything, but the DEI factor in most of the content is very telling. And that includes the on-stage activity too.
Still, I'm sure the rise of DEI and the tsunami of industry layoffs is entirely coincidental timing. Pandering to people that are not going to buy your product always works!

Watched the YT later so being able to skip around and having a blessed autistic person make a ToC in the comments made it pretty tolerable.

Geoff's opening by throwing shade at publishers and flattering devs appealed to my "working class" feels, but it really shows where his bread is buttered… he wouldn't have the balls to say the same thing defending gamers from devs.

Some highlights:
-Black Myth Wukong does not look real. Will probably have to get a "rebound" game after Elden Ring and before this but damn I can't wait!

-When everyone is sucking off GTA6, I'll probably be playing Killer Bean. I loved the Max Payne stuff, but the suplex sold me the game.

-That Capcom tower defense game looked cool, but $49.99 is a crazy price.

-This was post-show, but the one I'm most excited about: Spelunky dev making a 50 game anthology title for a fictitious game company:

I don't think Wukong is "real" either. I cannot trust Chinese devs who are completely unproven. Its probably gussied up for trailers and the gameplay is probably shallow, unbalanced, and outright buggy.

Sun Wukong pulling the Jingu Bang out of his ear in the trailer was so fucking sick... I will take all the broken Chinese jank they got for more shit like that!! lol

If gamers can tolerate shallow, unbalanced games like Stellar Blade in this, the modern desert of premium gaming, I think it's only fair I stomach some bullshit for a gorgeous adaption (hopefully/finally) of Journey to the West. Solidarity! I just hope it releases and runs ...and doesn't turn my PC into a node in some attempt on the power grid or something hahaha

I seriously think if Civilization VII had not been leaked and it had served as the final suprise trailer Summer Fest would have have been far better received. That teaser trailer is God Tier, it's one of the best trailers I've ever seen for a videogame.
