Thread: Sony to release a 'Pro' version of the PlayStation 5 this year after cutting outlook, analysts say
No titles in existing franchises makes me hopeful for new franchises?

...I'm so naive

That seems to be the current last line of defense among fanboys as I see it on other places on the internet. But not only would I not expect any new AAA-level franchises, they probably count stuff like Wolverine as a "new franchise" which is a joke, because Wolverine is not new at all and the leaked gameplay looked totally lame.

I've said it before, I'll keep saying it: Game development must change. Dev time must decrease. Go back to 360-level graphics + whatever automatically, easily applied nextgen effect, and then focus on making NEW GAMES, with NEW GAMEPLAY.

I'd of been really happy with Returnal, Last of Us 1 Remake, Demon Souls, Spiderman 2, God of War Ragnorok, Rachet and Clank and Horizon Zero Dawn 2.

I suppose that's over a three year period, but that doesn't count multiplatforms and replaying my favorites.

Edit; the first two years of PS4 were really slow. It only really kicked off with Bloodborne IMO. Still no excuse for a lackluster 2024, with all the internal teams these platform holders have. It has applied to Xbox for a decade and it applies here to Sony too.

Final Fantasy XVI might be the greatest story driven game that I ever played so I'm thankful for that but half of my PS5 games are 8-bit style 2D games, which is not normal at this stage for a console.

We desperately need something to happen that makes game development take less time. If that's A.I. making game assets, that's fine. But waiting 5 years for a made-by-committee sequel that underwhelms is not a long-term strategy.

We have to go back to letting the creatives be creative and we can't get there if a game costs $200M to make just so the building can have dilation stations.

I often feel like I'm a man stranded on an island when I read gaming impressions here because I think all the new stuff plays just like decades-old stuff or worse, even some of the progress is arguably regressive (e.g. raytracing at 30fps, DLSS vs image fidelity, frame generation vs latency), but every once in a while a thread like this comes along that gives me a bit of hope.

Sony needs to be humbled.

I mean, Microsoft seems to pull out from the console market.

They won, why bother producing insanely expensive triple a cinematic games that doesn't cut the price of producing it

That's actually a GREAT point: Most of these 5+ years AAA-games don't even end up as masterpieces. No, they're disappointing for a myriad of reasons. If every single one of them were a masterpiece, you could somewhat defend the time it takes, but when shit like FF16 is the result, hoo boy.

It's one of my favourite game if not of all time. And it was top 4 in this forum game of the year....

I am trying to get through FF7 Remake before Rebirth comes out but damn, it is just so bloated. Getting from the church to Aerith's house is taking forever, for example.

I'm doing the same. Aerith is so much better in this version than the original one though. What a wholesome character.

Helldivers 2 is my highlight this gen so far, I do need to finish FF7 remake then buy rebirth. In no rush tho

That's what's keeping me from going back to it and starting over. There are so many boring, tedious segments like finding cats and shit.

Eh, since mid-PS4 gen I haven't enjoyed their first party output anyway, but this does show how corporate Sony is declining. At least third parties are carrying the generation. Easily the weakest for first party but one of the strongest for 3rd party AA and indie

Look at Suicide Squad.

97 minutes of credits. Dozens of writers. Game was in development for nearly a decade. It was being made for so long that its genre and IP stopped being fads.

Meanwhile you have Palworld that has sold millions made by a bunch of nobodies with no DEI and gay subplots shoved in.

And what's worse is that writing in games has never been worse. I'm currently playing Tales of Arise and it's shockingly bland, both story and characters, like babby's first jrpg. Similar is true for all those AAA-games catering to the West: All we get are bland, super-non-offensive stories and perfectly good heroes, causing the most boring stories. See what happened with Persona 3 Reloaded, we cannot have "transphobic" npcs in a story. Wtf is this. At this point, I'm waiting for an AAA-rape rpg where the hero is real scum and treats women like objects and the game rewards it. :/

Gaming is nearing its next crash and from the ashes, indies and small-to-mid Japanese developers will arise. Until then we have to bear with the blandness of current AAA-gaming and wokeness.

Will keep saying this.....PS5 is without a doubt the worst and most unnecessary gaming console ever released.

Future Fact: I will have played all their best games and never owned the console.

As long as you can avoid fear of missing out on new shit, Sony has sold out to PC and this generation speaks for itself. 2024 is just more of what's to come and that's Sony turning a profit on PC not on console.

I will never own a PC. I'm still traumatised by IRQ conflicts so if it's Sony's last console PS5 will be my last console.
