Thread: Sam Maggs claims that Rivet is a lesbian

Lesbians.

Furries.

Furry lesbians.

If this even happened I can't imagine why anyone would want it known publicly that this is how they behave in an office setting when there is a difference of opinion.

Yeah "as a woman in the industry I feel its important to act as unprofessionally as possible to make people feel uncomfortable when I don't get my way" is not a good look, not at all.

A lot of her story seems like she is just lying and making shit up, seems certain after she is already called out for lying about who came up with the character name.

Imagine publicly advertising that you will create a toxic work environment if you don't get your own way at all times and actually thinking that you are in the right while doing so.

"Why would an alien mousedog have human female secondary sex characteristics? Are Lombax mammals? Do they breast feed their young?"

Weird how she never questioned why a female voice actor played Rivet. What a stupid spoiled whore.

There's so much stupidity in these arguments that it depresses me how often they're taken seriously.

Like you said, if you're arguing against a alien having relatable human characteristics, why have them be 'representative' at all? Why are breasts bad, but lesbianism good? Why would trannies exist in such a species when, unlike mammary glands, that's a characteristic only humans possess?

Never mind the open hatred of women she's displaying here. Getting angry and petulant over a female character being feminine and having breasts is obviously misogyny, by every definition of the term.

Good point. Never even thought about that angle.

Also to be in her position and not understand the anthropomorphic implications is insanity.

It's funny that one of the main thrusts of her argument was that the name "Rivet" was her idea and she came up with it and it's so hard to come up with names and that's one of the most challenging parts of her job. Yet when pushed by a colleague she admits that it wasn't her that came up with the name and that it kind of did go down just as the guy at GDC describes.

The whole situation seems like she is jealous that this other guy got to give a GDC talk about the game and she didn't and what seems to be worse is that other gaming outlets, such as Eurogamer and IGN, are working hard to push her narrative at the expense of the person doing the talk.

One of her tweets is literally "Rivet was a team effort. Maybe let's acknowledge the whole team". So it's actually fine to not mention everyone by name then? Who is "Whole Team"? She actually does the exact thing she is complaining about while still relentlessly complaining about it.

"This kind of erasing people's work really boils my piss, you should name the people who contributed to a project, don't just gloss over them! Myself and The Team worked so hard on this game!"

Her Twitter feed over the last couple of days really does give a terrifying insight into how Western videogame developers seem to be operating these days. It's a wonder they manage to produce any decent games at all. People throwing hissy fits in the workplace. Loudly shouting and screaming because they think "I make people uncomfortable" is a virtue and something that people in a professional environment will respect.

You can also see where the idea that they are intentionally trying to make female characters look less attractive comes from. I think actively wanting the weird furry creature to be "sexy" is a bit strange but it's not a huge deal if an anthropomorphic character happens to have some human attributes. Kind of the point really.

The issue seems to be that "some men will look at this and think the character is hot, that's disgusting, we must make sure that there is no chance that any straight white male will find this appealing". Otherwise it's just a nothing argument.

Ratchet is the male version of a fictional humanoid species. We are designing the female version of the same species. OK... so how can we signify that this anthropomorphic, humanoid, bipedal, creature is in fact the female of the species... hmmm... how could we possibly do that? Has it been done in other media before? Is it being done currently in other media now?

Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Why she has the boobies! Why!? ALIEN TIDDIES!!!!! ALIEN TIDDIES!!!!!! Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

What's especially shitty is she moans about how long it takes her to write characters and come up with names (or in this case attempt to take credit for other people's name ideas). Then moans about her work not being appreciated. Yet she thinks it's fine to shit all over character designs that someone else probably spent ages creating.

Like imagine getting the instruction on what you should be designing. "Here is Ratchet, he's a weird furry humanoid character. We want you to come up with a female version. Here are some other pointers." Then you spend a lot of time coming up with designs. Probably up all night before your presentation making sure everything is just right. Then you are met with this screeching arsehole when you *gasp* give the female character more of a female body shape.

"At one point my CD yelled at me in front of the whole office because I kept saying "Lombax Tiddies" very loudly in the office whenever anyone would bring up Rivet's design and it Made People Uncomfortable."

Like, is she basically admitting that she was doing this TO the people who were doing the artwork for the character design? As in, every time they are around and discussing their designs this absolute cretin is shouting "Lombax Tiddies" over and over?

In a lot of professional settings that would be straight up considered bullying and/or harassment. Not in the videogame industry it seems. That's just being a strong woman hoping to not be erased.

Also the character who absolutely must not be given any kind of human female characteristics or people will go nuts "is a lesbian". Right.

Can't wait in 6 months to see Sony/Insomniac settle for a $16 million lawsuit. I was taught you win as a team and you fail as a team.

I think it's also worth noting that the biggest talking point out of something called "Game Developers Conference" is an argument over the name, look and even sexuality of a character.

It's not about performance. Not about making a launch game for a new console that takes advantage of a feature of the new console (fast loading). Not about trade-offs between ray-tracing and frame-rate on consoles. Not about the pressures of making exclusive games that will help sell a console.

It's not about genre. Not about game mechanics. Not about how to make a new entry in a game that has been popular across generations. Not about how to keep things fresh and interesting without losing your core audience. Not about deciding how long or challenging the game should be. Not about looking at what other games get right and wrong and placing your game in context.

Nope. None of that. What's important is the character name and who was actually responsible for naming the character.

Oh and at one point the proposed character design had narrow hips and boobs. Then a lady in the office screeched and screeched until it was changed. Oh and the character is a lesbian.

Game Developers Conference.

lesbian? deepest lore!

... for retards. always sexual preferences. never will understand why it's the most important. so fucking what. it's a fictional animal, that's just creepy and gross to waste time thinking about.

It's all furry yiffing shit. They always push their perversions through media. We might scoff and laugh that someone would be so brain-damaged to actually care about pushing agenda through a 3d platformer, but we've seen it enough to know there's a strong "movement" to do exactly that, not just in videogames but in other mediums. They want kids to embrace perversion.

She is a mentally ill degenerate loser, who wants to claim credit for a character she didn't do much to create despite what she says. She mostly just went around the insomniac offices crying and shouting "lombax tiddies" which made the normal employees very uncomfortable and she most likely got fired but probably in a mutual agreement kind of way because Insomniac wanted to avoid bad press that a degenerate such as herself often brings if they don't get their way.

She doesn't seem to last long wherever she goes. She was supposedly part of the KOTOR remake writing team which would've meant an instant "no buy" from me but from what i hear she's no longer on the project. I still doubt this KOTOR remake won't have a shitload of woke and LGBT garbage injected into it though.

I'm just thankful she didn't end up a side hair shaven, 24" python armed, butch lesbian named Deadbolt.

heh, funny you should mention the bolded:

3D character artist Xavier Coelho-Kostolny has previously chatted about how he interpreted Rivet, saying that he "made [Rivet's] arms beefier than Ratchet's."
However, while Rivet is certainly ripped in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Coelho-Kostolny originally wanted to make her even bigger.
"In general, she's more muscular and has a slightly heavier frame despite sharing a lot of animations. I wanted to push it further with thicker limbs and making her heavier overall but didn't have the opportunity."

Sure thing Kolostomy-Bag. "No you see, in some animal kingdoms, the female is bigger!!!"

She was there for eight or nine months so unfortunately I'm sure the damage has been done.
I am hopeful that much of her work has been either rewritten or scrapped given her limited time at the studio and her fractious personality. Though I won't be surprised to see some form of "representation" within the game. It's not a problem of course, but as long as it befits the characters and leads to something interesting. Not just the lazily applied lesbian tag we have for Rivet.

A company that goes out of their way to hire someone like her is already drowning in the Kool-Aid IMO. I don't have much hope for that KOTOR remake.

"Mousedog"

"REEEEE this alien based on Earth mammals has mammalian characteristics!"

lol

Why would they have to be Earth mammals to have breasts anyway? Lots of animals have purely cosmetic features used to attract mates, some of which humans appreciate as beautiful (e.g. bird plumage). Who's to say Lombax females don't appeal to Lombax males with bouncy, soft, and warm bilaterally symmetrical upper chest protrusions?

another story that came out during this attention-whoring is that Rivet's name was originally going to be Ratchet too.

Maybe it was too racist and misogynistic to call a female 'ratchet' though 🤷‍♀️

Should have named her "Fryingpan".

Pure mental illness; there's just no other way to explain being hellbent on doing the opposite of reality.

Pure mental illness; there's just no other way to explain being hellbent on doing the opposite of reality.

We've seen enough behavior over the years and I think it's too flippant to call it "mental illness"...

...as if it's just an unfortunate chemical imbalance or the result of some trauma that damaged their brain...

...as if it's something that could be properly re-aligned by compassionate therapy and medication and the acceptance/patience of the community (because that's what first comes to mind when I think of the mentally ill)...

...as if it's a random mix of different mental problems, unrelated to one another.

Rather, it's an evil ideology. It's not a mental illness. It's an ideology that people willingly choose to believe and follow, and the "mental illness" manifests in proportion to how deeply they believe it / pursue it. And I insist that it's an ideology because a central ideology explains the uncanny unity between all these various zealots, all marching in lockstep from their various corners of entertainment.

A mental illness wouldn't have this pattern. This "mental illness" ran rampant in Gay Berlin and what resulted a decade later? Hmm, doesn't sound like mental illness to me, and history wouldn't call that a mental illness either. And it's an ideology predicted 1000s of years ago, one that takes pleasure in lying to people and encouraging people to accept Opposites:

Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

So, can someone pls tell me this:

How do you become a writer for video games, comic books, etc? Because I find it shocking that crazy people like her are given these jobs, yet it's not a hard job at all. This isn't like writing a book where you have to put a lot of effort into descriptions etc., it's more like writing instruction that the visual artists then make into something tangible. So what do I have to do to get these jobs? If that's considered work, I might not need to be unemployed any longer *shurgs*
are you black, asian, trans or a woman? You could also be gay, but your most likely white so you will need to be REALLLY REALLLY GAY. Not just normal gay, like suck 5 cocks at work gay. Then you will prove your wokeness and be given a top position by the DEI manager.

If your cis white well fuck you.

I still find it hard to believe when I see people say the game is only half Rivet. It felt like mostly Rivet, especially if you take away the intro/tutorial stuff that Ratchet gets that isn't even really the game yet.

Im so sick and tired of those sick pricks forcing unnecessary shit so hard that definitely adds NOTHING to the product

Go shift your focus on something that actually adds something to the GAME instead of your tryhard forcing garbage
But being gay adds 3 frames per second to your game and bumps the resolution by 20%.

If you want ray tracing you need a trans sex scene.
