Thread: Rumor: Jeff Grubb’s hearing things about a Switch 2 reveal in late 2023
@Bernd Lauert your avi looks like a Cockatrice from FFXII, that chick looks just like one in hume form

Who is that mysterious woman, and do you know what her favorite fast food restaurant is?

She's the foreign minister (or "secretary of state" if you're a yank) of Germany and my neighbor. She's not into fast food afaik, but she loves asparagus. Imagine the pee smell.

System may be coming in '24 but they're not gonna announce it this year, especially not leading into the holiday season lol. Why would they voluntarily cripple one last year of Switch holiday hardware sales?

They do a big Direct in February each year, I bet 2024's will be the earliest we'd see any official hardware reveal.

EDIT oh wait my mistake some giant bomb retard says he heard a rumor of a rumor, pack it up lads

Sure. The problem is that I don't think they can really keep it a secret. We didn't get the full Switch reveal until like January, I think, but there was lots of confirmation of new Nintendo hardware on the horizon. Nintendo is plenty capable of saying that there is new hardware coming, but can hold off on revealing precisely what that hardware is or how much more powerful a Switch successor is until a full reveal a few months ahead of it going on sale. I don't think we even had a good look at the hardware in the current Switch until the thing was on the market...

Too little, too late IMO.

It cant be a new system. Nintendo would be crazy to call a new system Switch 2 since that worked out so well calling the Wii successor the Wii U.

You're right, they'll call it something even stupider, like Switches or New Switch.

U means nothing to the average retard but 2 is more than one and is therefore better.

Grubb is a hack. He hasn't "heard things", he is just regurgitating rumours floating around the internet. The Switch 2 has already been accidently leaked in the ABK fiasco and a well known 4chan poster with 100% track record says they are developing games for Switch 2.

Holiday 2023 is apparently the target launch window.

No way! March the year after at best, like the original Switch.

March 2017 - March 2024 isn't unreasonable at all for something selling crazy numbers. PS4 generation was 7 years too for example and we know Nintendo is stingy as fuck.

1000% depends on where they are at in manufacturing. If they've already started, then they may be trying their best to do a fast launch for Xmas, grab the hype train in early Fall and utilize it for a big holiday launch.

It's going to sell out anyway, they're in no rush for holidays. They rather empty some of the shitty Switches already on shelves for holiday. Poor kids...

Manufacturing Switch 2 already without any leaks? Doubt.

oh i 100% agree it will sell out no matter what, but if all its launch titles end up being cross gen, I could see Nintendo wanting to get it out this Christmas to boost their q4 financials, while positioning current switch models as great "budget" gaming options for families. I don't honestly think they are launching this year, I think you are right about the spring 24 launch.

So what 3rd party title running on the Switch 2 would make you go yup thats next gen?

I think if they can get Hogwarts Legacy running on it that would show that the system has some power and can hang this gen.

Seeing DF do their tech review on it that game is not running on last gen systems unless you want it at 240P.

If they show new COD that would be very interesting too since MS promised Nintendo day and date and console parity.

This Jeff Grubb stuff is all based on the 4chan leak that now seems pretty confirmed after getting all the Pokemon stuff correct.

Hogwarts Legacy is coming out for the current switch. Or do you mean a hogwarts legacy that looks as good as a PS5/Xbox X version?

Switch is selling fewer and fewer units in Japan, while the PS5 is picking up the slack. Strike while the iron is hot and get Switch 2 on shelves ready for Xmas.

But it all depends on what Switch 2 is.

If it's basically a Switch that is two or three times more powerful? Fuck yeah I'll buy it. I've had a great time with the Switch. I love the convenience of it and how it scratches that itch when I want to play something portably or on a big screen. $400 Switch 2 = sign me the fuck up.

Am personally hoping for something 6x more powerful than the current Switch, but yeah... same... I'll take anything more powerful than the current, sadly.

Just looking at NVIDIA chipset roadmaps, I am thinking it will be some variation on the Orion NX. Which should put it just under 2TF and be Ampere based. That would be a very capable piece of kit with a 1080p screen and DLSS.

That would sound good, but I don't think Nintendo are going to go for a 1080p screen, but would instead opt for maximum battery life. Think it'll be 720p again, which is fine when you're talking about a 6-7in screen. The boost to visuals from a 1080p screen would be negligible imo if price and battery life are a key consideration.

Hope they use DLSS and support up to 4K for TV output, however. And HDR support is an absolute must.

Its not coming out on current switch. The delay is going to be permanent. And I did mean runnning close to PS5 version or even the S version.

The DF video showed the game running at like 720p on the S and it was still struggling. There is no way its going to run on switch thats why its neen "delayed" or more like cancelled.

They are not running the game on Switch unless its at 240P with half the world cut out. And thats docked mode lol. I dont even think its going to run or PS4 or xbox last gen. Its not out correct ?

If they could get it to run at S level that would show me the next Switch can get a few impossible ports of current gen games.

It would seem to me that for as long as it's not cancelled, it should be assumed that development has been pushed to some future Nintendo hardware. Perhaps this is the title that was at a basic dead end in development and Nintendo directed the studio to "keep the branch warm."

It's already had some very nice ports of games people thought couldn't happen.

That said, it's had some rough ones too, and I'm not too confident in the quality of this one.

Doesn't it have a release date?

It does still appear to have a release date. However, it wouldn't be a first time that something had a release date until a month out only to have the can kicked down the road to some undetermined date.

Guys you really think they are going to get it to run on Switch? Wheres the PS4 version?

If the game is at like 720P on the Series S how is it going to run on a XBOX S, let alone a Switch.

We have seen delays turn into cancellations. Clearly they technically couldn't do it. If it does launch its going to be cloud version or some gimped version that only takes place in Hogwarts castle or its going to be on rails or something.

Hey maybe I am wrong and they get it to run somehow on the Switch, but does anyone honestly think that will be halfway possible without completely destroying the game and having it run 100% ass?

Thats what I am thinking. Maybe at the time of development the "Pro" was still in the works and once that was cancelled the game was in limbo. It would be a pretty good reveal and big get to have Legacy be that big 3rd party game like Skyrim was for the Switch. WB probably knows that a new Switch is coming out they just can't say hey its launching on Switch 2 so just hold on until March they have to pretend that its "delayed".

I guess we will see. I just really dont see a way it releases on Switch unless its a different game completely.

If I was Nintendo I would do something crazy and include MK8+DLC in the expansion pass for Switch 2 if they don't have a Mario Kart 4K ready at launch.

A 1080p screen would be a pointless waste of power for handheld mode.

I'd ideally like an 800p screen like the Steam Deck, as the aspect ratio is honestly really damned nice for gaming, and that resolution is pretty much the sweet spot for a big handheld.

I honestly expect that's what Nintendo will do. A 1280x800 OLED screen that will be just better than the current Steam deck.

The switch already deals with two configurations, portable and docked mode. For the Switch 2 I would get rid of the docked boost and just have a portable option (that can be docked but with no boost) and a non portable device that is much more powerful (closer to a PS5). There is no need for any gimmick this time just improvements. This is how Nintendo would end up getting pretty much universal support from third party devs. The portable would only need to be powerful enough to render ports of current gen games at 720p (so slightly worse than a Series S).

Yeah! Almost like having an Xbox Series S and an Xbox Series X. Nothing could ever go wrong having that weaker "docked" solution.

Using the exact same hardware, with an optional higher power consumption mode for when it's plugged into the mains, is the absolute easiest way to work around having a game be made for both handheld and home console gaming simultaneously.

Creating two different SKU's with different hardware effectively creates the need for an additional port to be made for every single game.

A hybrid just needs two graphical presets.

I'd be perfectly happy with them making a Switch 2 that's purely a home console, as I hope will be the case with another purely portable Switch 2 Lite, but there is just zero benefit in trying to fight Xbox and Playstation at their own game.

The success of the PS4 and Switch shows there is more than big enough a market for a home and hybrid console to coexist, so why risk losing a battle for a slice of an equally sized pie to the one they're already eating?
