Vin Diesel returns to the role that made him a sci-fi icon in Riddick: Furya, the latest chapter in the gritty, action-packed series. Directed by David Twohy, who helmed the previous installments, this film takes audiences back to where it all began—on the mysterious planet of Furya, Riddick's homeland.

In Riddick: Furya, the story picks up with the anti-hero facing his greatest challenge yet: returning to his roots. After years of wandering through hostile planets and escaping near-death situations, Riddick discovers that Furya is far from the desolate wasteland he remembered. The planet is alive, teeming with a society that has evolved in his absence, and its inhabitants are not too pleased with his return.

Diesel, who has played the character since the first film, Pitch Black (2000), describes Furya as a personal journey for Riddick. "This is the most introspective Riddick we've seen. He's coming home, but he's not the same person who left. The planet has changed, and so has he," says Diesel.

I like all of the offerings of the Riddick IP. Movies, Anime, Games. I like how close to the chest Vin Diesel has a hand in the story crafting. The stories told run the gamut from horror to Conan's ascension to limited space opera. It's an anthology in it's story telling which makes for an odd story arc, but it works.

Here is hoping it doesn't get trashed with woke bullshit, but since it is going to be made in hollywood with SAG/AFTRA members, I don't have much hope. Vin Diesel should be able to shield the movie from the typical critiques by the leftist morons, but no movie is going to be made in that environment without some stupid messaging hamshackled in.

I've watched parts of Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick in full. And honestly? Vin Diesel has never reached the same heights as say Ahnuld or even Sly Stallone. Shit. Even Keanu Reeves has him beat. He just doesn't have the same mass appeal or charisma as any of those guys.

Chronicles is getting a 4k restoration next week. Pitch Black already had one in 2020. Both supervised by the director. I guess Riddick is next sometime before the new movie.

I don't even like saying the title. Riddick. It doesn't roll off the tongue. Just feels so unnatural to say.

That, along with the game for the original Xbox, is the entirety of my knowledge of the IP.

Same, I'm a huge fan of the character. Chronicles on it's own I can't objectively say is a great film, but I love it anyway. I love the character, the aesthetic and the universe. It's all so over the top.

I can't see how you could reconcile that shit with this character. While I would never have said Riddick is a villain, he certainly isn't a good guy. Dude straight up told the female lead in his last movie he was gonna go balls deep into her once he killed all of her allies, not to mention when he was perving on her in the shower.

I didn't know there was a Riddick 3

There is, and it actually is pretty good. It's got a Man vs Wild tone for the first half of the film, then turns into a horror movie in the last act. Riddick is no mary sue in this movie either, he really gets put through it by the end.

I did not know that. Riddick doesn't really need it though imo.

Damn its actually real?

Need to rewatch the series at some point.

Is this really a franchise that needs to come back?

Hell, did this even need to become a franchise in the first place? The first movie was kind of an entertaining little sci fi horror-ish flick. Chronicles was pure dogshit.

Am I crazy or do people only have good memories of this because of the game?

Yes, we want more Riddick. You might be crazy, I won't judge you, this time. No it isn't because of the game, though Vin Diesel bought the studio Starbreeze so he could have a direct hand in direction of the games and it showed.
