Hell yes. I'm rebuying on PS5 to replay and get the DLC. Although I will miss the nude mod for the big lady :(

Still haven't played this shit yet lol

I'm thinking I'll hold off to get my first playthrough on PSVR2 but these updates make me really wanna open the copy that's been sitting sealed on my shelf for the past 6+ months haha

Going to redownload just for the 3rd person mode and mercenaries
Just actually got to watch the whole trailer and holy shit that Rose trailer looks so good. The music too? *chef's kiss* Man now I wish they added 3rd person mode to RE7, that would completely change the dynamic of that game. I definitely got to play in 3rd person mode and on PSVR2.

VR aside, I hate that 7 and 8 are first person. It's a cheap way to add jump scares to horror games that is even more restrictive and prohibitive to natural movement in an environment than tank controls. Cannot wait to reply this game again now!

Joining Ethan Winters as playable characters in "The Mercenaries Additional Orders" are Lady Dimitrescu, Lord Karl Heisenberg, and Chris Redfield. Here is an overview of each character, via Capcom:

  • Lady Dimitrescu looms large over enemies in this action-packed mode, where she brings her nine-foot stature to bear against any Lycans or other foes unfortunate enough to cross her path. In combat, Lady Dimitrescu builds a Thrill meter by slicing adversaries to ribbons with her razor-sharp talons. This allows her to perform special actions like slamming down hostiles or summoning her daughters.
  • Lord Karl Heisenberg possesses his own electrifying powers. Equipped with a massive hammer and the ability to manipulate magnetic currents, Heisenberg can really put a charge into his attacks. The terrifying creations from Heisenberg's factory, Soldat Jets, also join him in the fray – but be mindful not to get caught in the crossfire of their self-destructive assaults. Heisenberg can also trade off movement speed to see what enemies are made of by pulling them in with his magnetic field or put on a show everyone can enjoy by slinging scrap metal, like saw blades, their way.
  • Chris Redfield also S.T.A.R.S. in "The Mercenaries Additional Orders." The legendary BSAA agent packs a serious straight punch that can not only get him out of situations where he's stuck between a rock and a hard place, but it also builds up his Onslaught gauge in a hurry as well. When Onslaught is active, Chris moves and reloads with lightning speed. Chris can also request support from the Hound Wolf Squad by using his target locator to pinpoint enemy positions and call in support strikes.

Key Features
  • A New Perspective – See the eighth core entry in the Resident Evil series from a new vantage point in "Third-Person Mode." In addition to the intense first-person view players enjoyed in the initial release of Resident Evil Village, they can now watch Ethan in action and experience his journey from a new angle in Resident Evil Village Gold Edition and the "Winters' Expansion."
  • The Story Continues – "Shadows of Rose" resumes the Winters family saga 16 years after the events of Resident Evil Village. The expansion's new tale follows Rose Winters, the daughter of main protagonist Ethan, as she struggles with her terrifying powers. Explore the warped and twisted world inside the consciousness of the Megamycete in search of a cure.
  • The Mercenaries Are Back and Bigger Than Ever – The beloved battle-the-clock mode, "The Mercenaries," returns with new features. On top of the original content, "The Mercenaries Additional Orders" introduces fan favorites as new playable characters Lady Dimitrescu, Chris Redfield, and Lord Karl Heisenberg, each with their own unique abilities. This added content for Resident Evil Village Gold Edition and the "Winters' Expansion" also includes new levels and other improvements.
  • Bonus GameResident Evil Village will provide access to a free multiplayer experience titled Resident Evil Re:Verse, which releases on October 28, 2022 alongside the launch of Resident Evil Village Gold Edition and the "Winters' Expansion." An all-star cast of iconic characters face off in four to six-player deathmatch battles in classic locations.
  • Familiar Faces and Fresh FoesResident Evil series hero Chris Redfield returns under a shroud of seemingly sinister motives. Ethan will also encounter a host of new adversaries inhabiting the enigmatic village, all with their own distinctive attacks.
  • Evolution of Combat – In addition to engaging enemies, in Resident Evil Village, Ethan can guard against incoming assaults, or kick foes away to buy time, allowing players to strategize the best approach for surviving the challenges ahead.
  • Popular Features Return – Recognizable features return Resident Evil Village that nod to previous Resident Evil titles, such as "The Duke," a merchant who allows players to buy and sell items, purchase recipes for crafting, and customize weapons.
  • Latest Technology – RE Engine paired with new technologies available via PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S delivers hyper-detailed graphics, advanced immersive audio, and little to no load times, bringing the village and its residents to life.
  • Play Across GenerationsResident Evil Village is eligible to upgrade at no additional cost from PlayStation 4 to the digital PlayStation 5 version and supports Smart Delivery for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One consoles

Man, third person just works so much better in horror games, where you can get a decent sense of where your character is in an environment, and have proper peripheral vision, instead of the constrained, blinkered first person view, that's like you're peeping out through a periscope or helmet's visor.

Will be buying this on the PS4 and SD, so my wife can play it through beside me, since she's also not a fan of first person games, but usually loved Resi.
