Thread: Remnant II launches July 25
First game was already better than its review scores imo, so seeing the second one reviewing well makes me quite happy.

Played a good chunk of the first game, really enjoyed it but fell off at some point. Riding solo maybe wasn't the best idea but I can't do multiplayer these days.

Yup, if you're not motivated by the loot grind the solo play is fucking awful, the game was kind of jank too.

From what I've seen, these scores seem heavily padded because it's an underdog or some shit.

Ok, playing it and I can conclude I need a new computer. Every action has lag on medium settings. Unplayable, which is a damn shame because what I have seen is promising.

So early trending based on positive reaction-

Game is fucking brilliant. Are we getting an OT when it drops?

I went with the challenger archetype and I'm playing on the second difficulty. I died a bit at the beginning but now I'm cruising as I've really mastered my weapons.

I rolled N'erud as my starting zone and it's awesome. Enemy design is really cool.

I had no idea what I was getting into with this and I'm so surprised I never played the first. I think I let the lukewarm reviews of the first turn me off but glad I got this. This gameplay loop is one of my all time favorites.

DF analysis is up. One of the first UE5 games:

- Nanite being pretty awesome, showing off great geometry detail, especially in interiors.
- Screen space reflections and shadows with the well known issues sticking out, distracting at times because of the heavy use.
- No RT or Lumen.
- Cutscenes, presentation and faces are as budget as the price, something had to give.
- Overall very attractive game with great art and detail.
- Good motion blur.
- Missing key UE5 features.
- About 1296p in quality mode.... 790-720p in balanced and 720 performance mode on PS5 and Series X :D :D :D With resolution scaling, with upscaling. Again someone saying we don't need mid gen upgrades and these machines have so much power left?
- IQ issues due to the UE5 temporal upscaling. But way better than FSR2 on PC, which causes even more artefacts.
- Motion blur helps masking the IQ issues.
- Balanced mode is the default, offering often 60fps, but going down to the 30s in some cases. Some areas have bad performance, so do the cutscenes.
- Quality mode hits mostly 30fps, very consistent.
- Performance mode, VSync is completely disabled, with crazy tearing.
- Series X and PS5 pretty much identical.
- Doesn't work properly with VRR.

I'm wondering if any of this might be improved by patches. More than a few current-gen games have received performance improvements after the first month/months. That performance mode sounds broken. The first Remnant got a 4k/60fps patch when playing on the XsX and PS5

Not sure. Apparently the game struggled with 4k60 on an RTX4090…..

(Without watching) I'm assuming the game is using the same resolution technique the Matrix demo uses. The game looks much, much higher than 720p in balanced.

First game was last gen though and visually simple. I believe they'll fix the tearing and generally clean up the performance, eliminating most of the dips. Especially the dips into 30fps in balanced mode. That said, a new engine like UE5 is always more advanced than the current console hardware can handle. Of course, because it has to be relevant for many years to come. Expect UE5 to be fully taken advantage of in during the next console generation. We'll see games using some of the features this gen and looking very good, but it'll take new hardware to make the engine really shine. I'm just curious how well highend PCs will be able to scale / how much scaling the devs bother to implement.

The game uses UE5 temporal upscaling and heavy motion blur that can't be turned off. Making the IQ soft but not too messy, game looking good. But like.. we see more and more games not even managing native 1440p, which is concerning.

Playing on Ps5 and game looks beautiful. To be fair I have only seen the town and my first zone. I should clear the zone tonight and see what the next setting has to offer.

From the DF video, I'm really impressed by the texture detail and the quality of the environmental detail, so much geometry and nice objects. Very sexy looking.

That said, everything screen space related has to die already. Screen space shadows and reflections are just so weird. Time stamped from the DF video:

Fuck me the main boss of N'erud was so annoying. It was a photo fucking finish when I beat him. For sure Thought I got to greedy

Yaesha boss is slaughtering me.

Dog revives me, one of his floating electro arms immediately zaps me before I can even move 2 steps.
Big mech bastard sends me off the edge.
Big hive maw vomits energy beam into corridor. It charges up, then moves and fires into the one I am in and am unable to get to another corridor in time.
One time I was actually jumping across to another corridor and it still killed me.
Fucking bastard.

Up to this point I had actually done decently against 2 smaller bosses, and quite a bit of exploring. Even solved the Cathedral of Omens puzzle. Very Tomb Raideresqe, with some lore even and a nice break from the constant enemy ambushes.

Holy Fuck this might be my game of the year. Zones are really different and cool. My kit is coming together nicely and yet I feel I've only scratched the surface.

I'm level 7 and I have no idea what my second archetype choice will be. Currently I'm going raw weapon and mod damage. It's like a hybrid caster. Mix in the proper heart correct mods and my power burst are so damn fun.

Still rocking the default shotgun But leveled up. Waiting for a sweet long rifle that will be my baby.

For those that meta gamed the first…. What was the post launch content like? Is it worth it to do multiple runs to get the best gear or is there no end game?

@CAB_Life are you paying the game? You mentioned being hyped about it.

First game got pretty challenging towards the end from what I know, also offered a survival and harcore mode I think. Don't know what it's like in this one.
Btw are you're riding solo or doing online coop?

Solo but I leave my game online in case any randoms want to join. I've only had one person join who left after we got wiped a few times by a boss lol. Playing solo truly gives me the souls like experience. Some of the bosses are so satisfying to finally beat.

Last night I joined a random game and helped a dude beat the main boss of N'erud just to see what kind of loot I got…. It wasn't much but I got an extra skill point.

Do any of you know if boss drops are random or the same all the time? I know I could google it but I'm trying to stay away from spoilers for now. I'm really enjoying figuring it all out as I go.

Game of the generation so far—can't stop playing with every ounce of my free time. It's the future of the souls genre. Miyazaki will/ should be taking note.

I am seriously tempted to half my score of the game because of the
boss cube segment. Up there with Kratos and climbing the spinning towers of fuck you in hades in God of War 1. Here its the rolling blocks of fuck you. Like Kokori Forest tutorial in Ocarina of Time but made by a demented psychopath.

That one gave me trouble as well, but once you get the pattern down it's not bad. They always move the same way no matter where you are so take advantage of that.

This game looks dope. Im interested

It's fucking great.

Different strokes. I really enjoyed his part and totally worth the headache for the pistol in the game. I'm pretty sure it's one of the best weapons in the game.

Got the game, brutal difficulty but fun

I may have already gotten shadow banned because I can't find any joinable online games today.

one just get shadow banned because he played the game. what did you think you do to get punished?

Last night I joined someone's game and he clearly didn't want me to join. He ignored all checkpoints and stood in a corner for 25 minutes straight. So I wouldn't spawn in.

Eventually he gave up waiting me out and died, which spawned me. He tried to do everything possible to get me to leave (standing there, shooting me in the back, not following me)

Maybe that guy reported me
