Redfall is an anomaly because a game with this good of a team behind can't possibly be this bad, and yet, it is. There are these drips of looter shooter, RPG, and multiplayer elements sprinkled throughout, but none of them work together, delivering a messy and almost incomprehensible experience. Still, gunplay and exploration stay consistently fun, thanks to the satisfaction of taking down enemies and the level design. That being said, the single-player campaign is dull, but the multiplayer campaign could provide bouts of fun comprised of laughing at the strange AI behavior or the fact that no one can find keys to a door.

Some YouTuber also released early, got taken down as well. He gave it a 6/10.

Will post more when the embargo lifts.

Edit: another one, more positive this time

Score: 78

The Good
Interesting enemies
Fun coop
Cool powers and weapons
Manageable open world

The Bad
Graphics/art look dated
Solo play can be difficult
Lacks imagination and innovation

Edit:

Trump bad, billionaires bad, Brexit bad.

What's gonna happen to MS if Starfield turns out to be a bad game. XBSX is my least played console of all time.

Oof not looking good. I'm not surprised but I was hoping it would turn out good.

Doesn't look like I'll be around when the embargo lifts because it'll be too late here. Curious what it'll look like when I'll wake up lol

Watching Shroud play and it doesn't look that bad. I'm getting Borderlands vibes. He did get a gold weapon at level 2 and the ai looks pretty bare bones so far.

Noisy pixel made an article about being excited for it after playing a 2 hour preview, but has now reviewed it at a 4/10 after actually playing it non-currated.

STOP.MAKING.MULTIPLAYER.GAMES

Why is that so hard?! Multiplayer shit is where previously successful singleplayer-developers go to die. See also that shitty Suicide Squad-game.

Make good singleplayer-games and, surprise, success will be yours.

10000% this. Fuck multiplayer shit. Most of the best console multiplayer games started as killer single player games.

Consider the following:

was just gonna say... their quality began dipping while at Bethesda. Lotsa talent went and made Weird West which is pretty good if you like that style of isometric sandbox RPG

I like their stuff. Deathloop was good (from what I've played of it so far), but it's not hard to see them struggling to hang on to what made them Arkane while under Bethesda.

Nah, Arkane became shit around Dishonored 2 (which launched in a very poor state and had Anita Sarkeesian as an advisor) and Prey (which not only stole the name of a much better game but spent more of its lore on a bunch of random jackasses playing a tabletop game or the complete relationship drama of two lesbians than anything interesting). Those were part of the reasons why Mr. Colantonio left the studio. He even later gave an interview stating he wanted to apologize to the original devs of Prey for the bullshit surrounding the name.

Unfortunately, while I liked the first Dishonored when I initially played it, I ended up souring on it as I started playing more in-depth stealth games like Thief, Hitman and especially Splinter Cell. I would've liked Dishonored 2 to improve upon Dishonored 1 by adding some more depth, but unfortunately they didn't really do that. Game's harder and leaning isn't an invisibility cloak anymore, but still, it's a pretty basic, line of sight only stealth game.

Yeah, Hogwarts Legacy has been the most successful game by a country mile so far, and Jedi Survivor seems to be pretty good as well so long as you're not playing on PC.

But people accept bullshit microtransactions in multiplayer more. Look at how much money Activision and Ubishit make from skins in CoD and RS6 Siege? This overmonetization nonsense is why we haven't gotten a new Splinter Cell game in a decade, despite everyone and their dog asking for one.

The politics of Redfall - Eurogamer interview
Why is Arkane still respected? Harvey Smith said this:

Smith recalls completing work on Dishonored 2 at Arkane Lyon and living in Europe during a period where the UK voted for Brexit, right before the US voted for Donald Trump. "I woke up in the middle of the night," Smith says of the US election, "I was on Twitter and I was just watching my friends be like, 'What the fuck is happening?' There was just this crestfallen, defeated, kind of reaction. And that's when I felt it: 'This signals the beginning of something really wild.' This is populism. This is like echoes of earlier times in history." And while all of this goes on in the background, he continues, numerous "horror show" incidents have taken place involving pharmaceutical companies.

Well I can't speak to the quality of Redfall, but Harvey Smith sure seems to be a cunt.

Prey somehow turned out better than it should have, though I don't disagree with you.

What happened to Arkane. Their previous are some of my favorites. I especially loved Prey, but the game has apparently turned out to be even worse than most people thought it would be.

I thought Deathloop looked even worse than this game and I ended up loving it so I had faith this game would be great too. Ooops, I'm sure glad Tears of the Kingdom will be out in less than 2 weeks.
