Thread: Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords is an all-time banger of a game 🏰🧙‍♂️

It's the second day of a four day holiday weekend here and it's raining cats and dogs.

Given this extended break you'd think I'd be putting in some serious effort in the recently released Diablo 4 or FInal Fantasy 16... but no, you know what my dumb ass is playing?

M'fing Puzzle Quest!!!!

It'd be safe to argue that Puzzle Quest is the thinking man's Bejeweled/Candy Crush, and it's just as addictive without any of the free to play nonsense involved with such titles. My first exposure to it was on Nintendo DS which I was hooked, and man, even playing it on the big screen via my Series X with a gamepad instead of a touchscreen... It's sunken its teeth directly into my #gamer veins all over again.

Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords was the first game to blend the brilliance of Match 3 gameplay alongside an RPG quest

With its high fantasy setting, loot drops, companion system, items to equip, dungeons to explore... man, I used to blaze up and just zone in on this one. It's still fantastic even as a wiser, older, sober teezzy. 🐉 ⚔️

This 💎 is available on pretty much every platformer under the sun, even if all you have in 2023 is a PSP, so I'd have to assume I can't be the only one who adores this game.

I never did get around to any of the sequels or licensed spin-offs, but man, this game hits.

prepare to be addicted!

you join a legion of Puzzle Quest fans, it really is a great game. I think I saw you in the M&M Clash of Heroes thread, that's another good puzzle game to try. Critter Crunch is another puzzle game from that era that I still love.

don't let anyone dissuade you from trying the other games, if you like your time with Puzzle Quest and want more. Marvel Puzzle Quest is decent, though I hate how slowly you progress and how it's very mission-based. Leveling up your heroes unlocks new powers, so it has a very simple, satisfying core loop of playing missions (or grinding on old ones) with new team-members to level them up and see their powers.

Puzzle Quest 2 is pretty fun, more of the first game but with a worse art style (imo). Don't sleep on Puzzle Quest Galactrix, lotta filthy casuals hated that game but I love it.

Love match 3 games and played this one.

Playing Gems of war on the smartphone for I think 5+ years.

Basically you build a deck with 1000s of cards and you grind them slowly and match skulls or cast spells like in puzzle quest.

It this is your type of shit, gov Gems of war a try. In the beginning it's hard and overwhelming but if you like the concept, it's gonna hook you for years lol

It's one of my favorite games of all time. The remaster on switch is absolutely awful. 360 version is best. I played DS one alot too.

I beat second one and i liked it alot but first one is muuuuuch better.

Also Puzzle Quest 3 is F2P garbage

Hmmm... never heard of Gems of War, but it looks A LOT like Puzzle Quest

Only other similar game I have experience with is Puzzles and Dragons if anyone recalls that

I have that Puzzles & Dragons + Mario cartridge for 3DS, pretty beefy puzzle game. The thing I despise in the base game is your team-formation is highly restricted to pre-made groups. I think the Mario levels actually let you assign individuals to your team freely.

Live Arcade was no joke back in 2006-2009. Started with Geometry Wars and just blew the fuck up with game after awesome game. It was a serious tool in making me feel the 360 was the system to own that generation, up until about 2010 and then they just went full retard.

I put so many hours into the original on DS. It kept me up late at night many, many times. Unfortunately, from what I remember the later editions were not as good. But the original DS game was awesome!
