A brand new Prince of Persia game has been revealed as part of this year's Summer Game Fest showcase.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is a new 2D action platformer, developed by Rayman Legends studio Ubisoft Montpellier. Playing as a Persian warrior named Sargon, you will explore the cursed region of Mount Qaf in search of the missing Prince Ghassan.

Built using a Metroidvania structure, the large map spans a variety of Persian mythology-inspired environments including the "majestic" Citadel of Knowledge and outdoor regions such as the Hyrcanian Forest. Each area contains platforming dangers, puzzles, and combat encounters, as well as new time powers to unlock and side quests to complete.

The trailer at Summer Game Fest showed off several glimpses of The Lost Crown's challenges, including the boss battle with Jahandar the Manticore.

Ubisoft has also revealed that The Lost Crown's soundtrack will be composed by Mentrix, an Iranian-born composer. They are joined by Gareth Coker, the composer best known for his work on Ori and the Blind Forest and Ori and the Will of the Wisps.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is set to release on January 18, 2024. It will be available on Nintendo Switch, PS4 and PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X, PC, and Amazon Luna. More information on the game will be revealed as part of next week's Ubisoft Forward event on June 11.

Just game looks horrendous. It looks like that Foreskin game. Who the hell is this made for? I'm guessing zoomers.

I mean, we got a guy who basically looks like he's an African-American and then you got the rap music in what is supposed to be a Middle Eastern setting. Hard pass on this shit.

Middle eastern motherfuckers should be pissed. First Cleopatra got blacked, and now the Prince.

Maybe I'm retarded but I don't think it looks that awful from a gameplay standpoint? Sure, visually it's terrible, both with the mobile art and the character designs, the music choice was stupid and what little voice acting was there, also terrible. But the gameplay itself didn't seem too bad.

That being said, I have zero confidence this will be good. Ubisoft can't even get the SoT remake out the door, all their games lately have been worse than usual and it's still Ubisoft. I'll wait it out and probably get it at $5 assuming it's not a total train wreck. It would be nice to play a new 2D PoP game

Considering the Persian Empire included a decent amount of Northern Africa all the way to India and it doesn't seem like you play the Prince of Persia so the character could be from pasty white to black and everything in-between.

Gameplay wise it looks quite fun. Will give a go for a fiver.

You say North Africa like the entirety of it is a country and supposedly the Nubians were its rulers.

I say it in the way that it's an area of land where both Persians and black people were in close proximity. This character being black is not a historical inaccuracy because one they are made up and two black people and Persians were in the same geographic area at the same time.

Nah you're right I'm sure the killmonger looking main character and the stupid ass rap music was a totally organic creative choice and not a necessary tithe paid to the church of ESG to even get a new prince of Persia game greenlit in 2023.

You may be severely underestimating just how big Africa is as a continent coupled with just how diverse it is regionally even to this day, plus there's this thing called the Sahara Desert that kind of separates North Africa from Central and Southern Africa. Much like Ron Burgundy it's kind of a big deal, esp in ancient times when the main means of getting anywhere is on foot or horse (if you were lucky).

No I don't. They literally ruled the exact same area at a time difference of less than 20 years.
