Speaking in a new interview with IGN, Xbox boss Phil Spencer took the blame for last year's light release schedule, but said he felt good about the 12 months head, which should see significant exclusives released for Xbox Game Pass on consoles and PC.

"Our commitment to our fans is that we need to have a steady release of great games that people can play on our platform, and we didn't do enough of that in 2022, there's no doubt," Spencer told IGN. "And fundamentally, that's on me. I'm the head of the business."

He added: "The commitment we have to our customers, to continue to deliver great games, is something I take seriously, the teams take seriously, and 2022 was too light in games.

"We're excited to about getting to roll into 2023, having the Developer Direct – I felt really good about the games that we were showing – and also knowing that Starfield is a game that we're going to highlight in its own show, and then just start off 2023 with good momentum. Like you said, I think we needed that."

The anus is on Phil to start walking the walk.

I have a Series X, but other than turning it on maybe once or twice to update the system, I'm not sure I used it at all in 2022.

I have a PC and a PS5 so right now the most compelling things on the Series X for me are a handful of 360 games that I want to get around to playing eventually and honestly if 360 emulation on the PC were better, I'd be playing those games on my PC.

On paper putting all of your exclusives on PC on release day sounds great and it's certainly consumer-friendly, but man does it really cut down on the need to actually use your console.

No big surprise. He's been too busy "transforming Xbox into one of the most progressive companies." Good on him for having his priorities straight, I say.

They have Starfield this year at least! That's probably a huge hit for them finally.

But what's crazy is that Redfall and Starfield are two of the biggest Xbox release names for the year and the only reason those are "Xbox" games is because of an unnatural $7,500,000,000 purchase of an entire publisher. If they didn't have a non-gaming global behemoth behind the division that could throw around more money than some nations bring in for their GDP, they'd be 2+ years into the generation and we'd still be asking what their big titles are going to finally be...

Imagine where they would be if MS wasn't willing to drop so many billions into the money sink that Xbox is. Without Bethesda what would they even have for 2023? Phil has been in charge of Xbox games for 15 years now and has done an unbelievably bad job.

Those two aren't even enough tbh. Im not really interested in Starfield. I'll give Redfall a try tho. Im more looking forward to seeing Fable/Hellblade2 and what are these "project dragon" and other codename games instead.

Hopefully we get a big new mp game soon too.
