This has to be like a cult

I dont get it

Lots of coworkers of mine spend so much to get rare bottles of bourbon or whatever

Makers Mark, Eagle Rare, and umm Buffalo Trace... going down to kentucky to do their bourbon runs... get some stamps on a card or something

I got sloshed off Elijah Craig at a party last year, ended up throwing up. Which is rare for me

I dont get it really. Not a super drinker myself. Is this some LARPing masculinity bullshit?

I drink a shit load of scotch but never really found a bourbon that I really liked all that much. The ones I remember find the best were Four Roses and Elijah Craig. In my bar now I have Knobb Creek that I have had for almost 2 years cuz its not what I like.

If I am not going to have a good Scotch, Ill have Proper Twelve Irish Whiskey. Its actually delicious and great buy. Its a BETTER Jameson.

But My daily go to Is Johnnie Walker Black. I buy that a couple handles at a time. I like it with one cube of ice....yum!

All that said I would love to hear some bourbon recommendations to try.

I hate hard liquor it makes me sick drinking straight. Beer, wine or mixed drink is okay

Delicious is a strong word @Arkam

LOL. I love it. Its my cheap date Irish Whiskey. I always keep a bottle on hand for when I have run through (most) of my good Scotch. Cuz once you are drunk, no point in wasting the expensive stuff. I find Proper Twelve to be smooth with some sweet undertones.
But like I said my bar staple is JW black, though I usually have an assortment of Glenfiddich, Glenmorangie, Macallan and some JW Green on hand. All 12-18 years. Then of course a couple Islay's for when I want to taste Band-Aids/charcoal like Ardbeg or Lagavulin.

Was only Jameson for me in my 20s. Never liked bourbon. Then one day whilst watching the immaculate show Justified and seeing them repeatedly drinking the Jim Beam, it got in my brain that I needed to give bourbon another shot (pun intended). Somehow acquired the taste so much so that I no longer care much for Irish whiskey. Tastes watered down to me now. Plus inflation didn't help with them jacking Jameson prices up and Beam and Evan Williams are still dirt cheap in comparison. I'm partial to both Jim Beam Black and Devil's Cut, but Evan Williams has been my go to recently. Extremely smooth for bottom shelf. I'd say Elijah Craig and Woodford Reserve are my favorites if they go on sale. Also can't go wrong with Maker's, but for the price, I'd reach a bit higher.

I am more of a Rum person.

WHatcha like? For making fun summer drinks (like Hurricanes) I use Don Q silver. I got turned on to Don Q when I lived in Florida and it was the run of choice with all my Puerto Rican friends. Its pretty good and cheap.

But for Sipping I like El Dorado 12 year. Its damn good rum from Guyana.
