Thread: Outside of Nintendo, have Japanese games lost favor with the casual Western audience? Were they always niche?
I wouldn't say Japanese games have fallen out of favor.

It's more to the growth of the overall industry, more developers in practically every country. Japan is a small country.

There are way more options now than even 15 yrs ago. Indy developers are also making AAA like games now.

I'm curious what the sales figures are for Slitterhead, and if Japan, or the West, were receptive to it.

I wouldn't say that game is "good" but it's certainly not bad. It's definitely Japanese and memorable though.

Yea, back in November. It's a really unique game. It definitely works as it should but has some frustrating design choices. It's also really simple in scope. Yamaoka's OST and the art style are solid though and it's a pretty engaging game once you adjust to how it plays.

Outside of Nintendo, how can Japanese games generate any kind of hype when publishers like Xbox and PlayStation keep dropping the ball every chance they get? Japanese games have zero chance of thriving outside of Nintendo unless the PC crowd chooses to rally behind the game and word of mouth causes both hype and sales to explode
