What're ya buyin?

buying3kjkn.jpeg

Here's a thread about stuff we're buying or plan to acquire. Very general about anything we're enthusiastic about or want to complain because we have to spend money on it. No matter if it's a phone, clothes, a huge Saints Row dildo, a good Whiskey or some weird hobby.

It's the place for:
- decision making
- sharing impressions
- asking for recommendations
- sharing your hype or anger

Let's go you capitalist pigs!

I'm gonna start off with a new pair of headphones that I've just ordered yesterday. The Argon MK3 from Modhouse.

Front_on_stand.jpg

They're based on the Fostex T50RP, and then highly modified by Ryan and the people from Modhouse. I ordered them based on the impressions from my favorite two audio YouTubers, DMS and Joshua Valour.
These headphones apparently have a great and huge soundstage, despite being closed backs. Also, a ton of bass while still having good detailed highs and nice vocals. It sounds like it's the perfects addition for my Focal Clear, which are rather natural, so great for music. While I plan to use the Argons for gaming, movies and some electronic music. I ordered them because they supposedly have a very unique sound signature that seems like a great contrast to my other pair of headphones.

They're always only available in limited quantity and sold out within hours.
Lead time is 14 weeks + shipping from the US to Germany, so it'll take a while.

Jetboil Minimo Camping Stove.
RRP: £165
Bought for: £129 including 2 free gas canisters (£5 each)
Bought here

I needed a new stove since my ultralight cheapo one wasn't up to proper cooking, and the missus wants us to do more camping and all day hikes.

The Jetboil range are pricey, but the cream of the crop for camping stoves. The main thing it does is boil water incredibly quickly, less than 3 minutes for 700ml of water, more than enough for two big cups of tea, while fuel consumption is no worse than a standard gas stove.

The advantage of the Minimo over the more commonly bought Flash model, is the adjustable gas valve that allows a lower heat for simmering and precise cooking control, along with a stove pot top attachment that let's you cook with pots and pans.

The entire thing folds up neatly into itself, although the stove top add on won't fit in with a gas canisters (something I'd actually recommend keeping out anyway to avoid scratching the non stick surface).

Overall probably the best camping stove currently on the market, if you can get a decent discount on one.

This week I bought a quality rendition of Van Gogh's "Starry Night." I don't know what it is about that painting, but it really hits me. I'm not an art guy at all, either. But there's a coldness to it; the stark coldness of the sky and the radiance of the moon over the little village. The pyre or tree or whatever it is adds a sinister element to the painting, almost as if it's threatening the little town while it sleeps. It reminds me of exactly the way a winter night feels. I just love looking at it. Anyone know much else about this painting?

Also just bought a Ruger Mark IV 22/45. I've always been a big fan of Ruger Mark series, but the truth is, they're a bitch to field strip. The Mark IV changes all that as it now pops apart with the push of a button. I ended up buying the 22/45, which has a polymer lower and a bull barrel with target sights. I immediately changed out the target sights for HIVIZ fiber optics, which are suitable for more applications IMO. I also just bought a set of Stoner CNC G10 grips in blue for it. They haven't arrived yet, but I think they'll look great on the gun; a huge step up from the chincy ones the gun came with. This 22/45 is a base model, and my previous Ruger was the Hunter model, which came in full stainless with Rosewood grips and the Ruger logo embossed in red on them -- it's a beautiful gun, but it MSRPs at around $700, whereas I got this gun for $399. After the grips and the sights, I'll have a total of $465 in it, and I think it'll be perfect.

Here are the grips:

And here is the gun:

Also bought a bottle of Jack 27, which is IMO infinitely more sippable than regular Jack Daniels. It's more mellow and has a hint of maple to it. My wife immediately thought she was going to use it in a mixed drink and got horribly offended when I told her the fuck she was lol. I love her to death, but she's not quite there yet with her booze. You don't buy expensive whiskey and then turn around and try to hide its presence in a drink. Expensive whiskey IS the drink.

I actually like it a lot as well. It's a very interesting mix of haunting but also kinda romantic elements.

Here's a short backstory to the painting:

I need to get some more 27 next time they have a sale. Really nice smooth whiskey that.

My wife loves normal JD, so I got her some of the slightly more fancy single barrel rye for her birthday, which she instantly slammed the first glass of back like it was a cheap vodka chaser, much to my horror.

She did at least apologise and has since been drinking it properly, and not like an Essex girl out larging it on a Friday night, but honestly, women some times.

In addition to the Argons mentioned above, I also bought a tube amp for my headphones, the Little Dot MK2.

Little-Dot-MK-II-Review-IMG_8550-.jpg

I use it with my Focal Clear headphones. It has way more power than these cans need. This tube amp changes the sound pretty significantly. Usually, the Clear are very natural and analytic headphones, but with an extremely well defined and rather strong bass. This amp makes the sound more smooth, especially the highs. The mids get a bit warmer. But the strongest effect: it increases the bass quantity and slam. So while it stays detailed, the sound simply becomes more fun.

Also, it fucking glows. Which is sexy. Very satisfied with it so far.

That's the power of the suck!

I look forward to watching the imminent Missing 411 youtube video on your mysterious disappearance in the wilderness.

I'll probably sell it in a few months after I play around with it, most likely for the same price I am paying for it now.

Came pretty close to buying one of these, but I bought a Benelli m4 instead. The DP looks badass! Let me know what you think.

Bought this

And this

Almost got to work on the car this week.

Anyone have any advice on custom exhausts? I want to put this Borla Stinger on my '18 F150 with the 5.0 Coyote engine. I bought an extended warranty on this truck -- 10 years or 100k, whichever comes first, so I don't want to fuck the warranty up, but I've been told that as long as the exhaust is cat-back, I should be fine.

I've just been buying shit-tons of random stuff off Amazon. Everything from clothing items to health supplements and exercise equipment. I rally need to stop. Lol

While a cat back system SHOULDNT have any impact really, these cars these days are super finnicky and who knows if that slight change in exhaust pressure will set off some sensor or such. Probably worth calling up the dealer and ask if any ECU tuning might be needed or if it impacts your warranty. They may say its only covered if you let them install (regardless of it needing an ECU tune). Sure they will overcharge you a bit, but will be cheaper than a dispute on you warranty work (or havnig to keep the old exhaust to swap back on for dealer visits)

Osprey Tempest 30 women's camping backpack

RRP: £140
Bought for: £59
Bought from: Go Outdoors

My wife's old pack ripped the other week, so managed to grab her a new one in store last night, with a massive discount thanks to amazon selling them off at the moment and Go Outdoors having a policy of price match + 10% discount.

A Lego Peppa Pig house for the little twins. They love playing with Legos - mostly enjoying destroying shit, but they started actively building things. We have some sets, but it's not enough. So I bought this so they can at least use some bigger parts to build house-like things. And they like Peppa Pig, of course.

I'll renovate our bathroom and my wife will be on a buying streak. I'm currently organizing shit, how to cut a window there, remove a wall, get the right people to help, set a budget.

She already has a list of things she desperately NEEDS for it. So yeah, this is what awaits me in the next weeks.

Envious. Our house could use a fair bit of work (house is in good shape, but it's old, old, old), but it's so spendy and such a massive inconvenience.

I can only to that because my father in law has renovated houses and apartments for many years, and he offered to help me. He's old and has a heart condition, says it'll be the last project of this kind that he wants to do. So we'll be doing that together for the most part. And for the stuff that we can't do ourselves, get some of his friends to help, for a small fee.

Which makes it affordable. Otherwise I couldn't afford it at the moment.

As for shopping - I decided to try my hand at sprouting seeds, both for my wife and I to consume and to give our indoor pets something green to chew on. Bought a couple of these bins that allow for soil-free sprouting, but the first batch got moldy. I obviously have no idea what I'm doing. Also ordered a ton of random shit off Amazon, including a new pocket knife, various supplements, and more apparel for hiking (moisture/sweat wicking stuff and the like). Nothing overly interesting, tho, so if you read this far then... apologies for being boring.

For the new bathroom, I just ordered "concrete style" tiles and a new sink:

ori-waschbecken-aus-terrazzo-orion-grau-2106.webp

The room will be a mix of grey concrete style with black elements, like the board under the sink will be black/anthracite, as well as the shower. Then mah wife will do her magic with few colored highlights.

We are still searching for a fitting shower, toilet bowl, mirror etc.

Fuck. My beloved Pixel 2 is screwed. The USB port is damaged, it only charges painfully slow, like 1% in 45min. Have to charge it all the time to not die on me. Also, the battery goes down extremely fast. I could sent it to a repair shop, but a new battery + new USB would be over 160 bucks, which I don't want to invest into such an old phone.

Loved that thing, great camera, perfect size to use with one hand. I can't stand huge phones.

So I ordered a Pixel 4a, which is bigger, but I hope not too big. And with the Pixel 2 no longer getting new Android versions, I guess it makes sense to go for a new one. Still sad, I was very satisfied with it.

You could just get one of those wireless charging pads for your old phone instead.

Hey those headphones are awesome!
I have a pair of one of the original modded Fostex T50RP. They were called 'Thunderpants', made by a fella on Head Fi years ago. Sound is still amazing out of them, for me planar magnetic headphones just have that sound x-factor I can't resist. I'm currently trying to sell up a pair of HD800s to fund a pair of HE1000se.

Here they are, a bit battered and bruised after more than a decade of use, but I think they're beautiful still.

thunderpantsz0kl8.jpg

I recently purchased a Hugo TT2 to drive them, it's a really nice pairing, the holographic, highly resolving sound out of the TT2 works great with the chunky bombastic sound of the Thunderpants.
