Thats a shame. I had gotten a refurbished Wii U that introduced me to Xenoblade. Wii U in hindsight had an interesting lineup and backwards compatible liberty but many people only realized this after Nintendo and a lot of people had already written the Wii U off.

Some of the very best switch games were wii U games. Mario Kart 8, Breath of the Wild, xenoblade chronicles ect.

Back then in the apartment I was living In I only had like 30 mbs speeds and often less. No way that shit was feasible. Now I live in rural Oklahoma and im getting fast speed fiber internet.

I still prefer buying Physical for Nintendo but I get why so many are okay buying digital nowadays

I think it's a false equivalency between Xbox one and the switch 2, even with key cards. Xbox 1 required routine online check ins, that's not the case with the switch 2. Digital purchases can be played offline without periodic check ins, physical games that are actually on the cartridge can be played without online check in, and even shitty ass key cards can be played offline without check ins once the game has been downloaded.

The shitty thing is the whole remote bricking if you hack your console and are caught, but if you hack your console and connect to the internet that is kind of on you.

With the Switch 2 you can choose to engage with the system like you always have with physical games or go digital with some nice added sharability built in. The shitty thing is the key card bullshit, but that's more of a third party issue.

No, but I did expect the gaming industry, and the fanbase to at least make a peep when a Nintendo executive says virtually the same marketing blunder that is now taught in marketing classes as an example of how to piss off customers.

It's fine though, Nintendo is judged by a different standard than everyone else. I also understand that Nintendo will not hesitate to blacklist anyone that doesn't kiss their ass, and access journalists are too afraid of losing their access.

The Switch 2 launch is one of most satisfying new console launches in recent memory for me. I really liked my PS5 launch, but this has just been so fun. Mario Kart is a fucking blast and the hardware is really great and I can already tell everything else I play is going to be satisfying on it.

It's not for everyone, but I have a hard time understanding the extreme negativity or even hatred of it I see here and there.

Also, there was no backwards compatibility for Dreamcast. There was none for N64. Or SNES. Those systems had to rely on a compelling set of launch games. PS2 didn't have a great launch. It had a head start though. By the time GameCube and Xbox hit the market, it was hitting is stride.

I wish we had libraries this big too, but I think it's realistic to keep in mind how much smaller in scope and complexity and budget many of these games were compared to today. No one today would buy some barebones shit like Ready 2 Rumble Boxing or TNN Hardcore Heat or Crazy Taxi for full price. And if they did, they'd be pissed off and ranting about what a ripoff it was. More is expected from games now.

I actually bought a Dreamcast with my own very hard-earned teenager money and even when this was all brand, spanking new, I was actually let down in a lot of ways. I thought Sonic Adventure looked amazing, but it felt like a step down from even Mario 64 when it came to the world and objectives and controls. Hydro Thunder was pretty damn cool, but again, very small and limited scope game. You can bang 20 of those out for a launch year. You can't bang out 20 Mario Kart Worlds for launch.

It would be better if the Switch 2 had more games available at launch, but it will eventually get games from Nintendo's various franchises.

While I could have waited until the end of the year to get a Switch 2, I bought it earlier so that I could get to play the various GameCube releases when they come out. Mario Kart is fun, but to me the GameCube games are more enjoyable.

You can't control this.

If Sony launches a console with Demons Souls and it sells well and reviews well then they've successfully connected with their audience. That's what they are trying to do.

I would guess that MK World, Wind Waker and checking out a few missed Switch 1 titles with better performance would keep most people going for a while.

Normal people just see the stuff that's out there and just decide if they want it or not. It's not that complicated.

Nintendo play it safe and have stuck to the same formula and franchises for decades, theres nothing there doing thats particularly bold or innovative IMO. What im talking about is everything outside of the game. Do you really want to get into an ecosystem where they can brick your console if you use it in a way they dont like? Are you happy Nintendo dictating fan tournament prices? Do you not mind Nintendo issuing baseless law suits regardless of legal position, just because they know companies and individuals can't fight back. What about an online infrastructure thats a decade behind other rival platforms? What about legacy games been locked behind subscriptions? What about if your hardware breaks down i.e Joycon drift? Do you want to pay a company that will do everything it can to get out of its legal obligations? Do you want to play third party games that are worse than on any other platform (if you can play them at all). Do you like to be charged more than any other game publisher for your games? (that in no way justifs the extra cost).

What for? The latest Mario Kart? A handful of exclusives? Every game purchase is going to fund these wankers and those practices.
